Cemented Homophia [Dan Collins]

Being an invitation to psychologize:

So how does a beauty queen turn into the poster child against gay marriage? In the case of Miss California Carrie Prejean, the answer may lie in an ugly divorce that may have cemented her views on gay relationships.

Carrie’s parents filed for divorce in 1988 and the divorce and custody fights went on for more than a decade — it was a divorce filled with homosexual allegations hurled by both sides.

In one of the docs, Carrie’s dad describes a confrontation he had with her mom in 1996, in which he recounts an argument in a restaurant parking lot, where “Ms. Prejean accused me, in front of our daughter, of homosexuality.”

Go read the whole thing. Then go Google up a list of the leftie bloggers who cited this article approvingly, because they’re going to be the very same ones who are shocked and outraged when someone like Cythia Yockey says something like this:

I think you are correct that Frank Marshall Davis is likely to have had a sexual relationship with Obama when he was a child or teenager. As I recall, Davis boasts in his book Sex Rebel of repeatedly molesting a young girl named Ann with his wife in a three-way. Obama’s mother’s name was Stanley Ann Dunham. And she was 17 and unmarried when she conceived Obama with a much older black man who was already married. It is common for children who have been sexually molested to become sexually active very early. However, I am not sure it is correct to call Davis a “homosexual pedophile.” Davis really seemed to operate as a sexual predator so I don’t think he can be called either homosexual or heterosexual because his sexual orientation was not to a gender but to personality qualities that made someone vulnerable prey. I don’t think the psychological/psychiatric/therapy communities have quite gotten all the way to this idea that bisexuality is an orientation to traits in another person that make them prey to the predator, so this is my original idea: bisexuality is a sexual orientation to prey and the gender of the prey has little relevance in sexually arousing the predator.

The power of unforeseen consequences is strong with those ones. After all, . . .

Related: Elizabeth Edwards feeds herself to the vultures (of whom, apparently, Tina Brown is not one–or perhaps this is a startling act of candor on her part?) Of course, that makes me a metavulture, I guess. Pretty good piece, though I wouldn’t have thought that “inexorably” could modify “let.”

Either that or it could be because a cock obsessed drama queen elevated her to that position by asking a question he didn’t want to hear the answer to and then savaging her like the punk freak bitch that he is. Could go either way. Or not.

Why do you hate teh gays Pablo ?

I love how a person can’t take a principled stand against something “progressive”- instead, that stand is the result of some kind of trauma when said person was a child. Sigh. Beyond parody.

  3. Rob Crawford says:

Haven’t you heard? No sane person can disagree with the progressives. Therefore, any who do are insane.

  4. Darleen says:

    Matt

You don’t read famous neuro-scientist Dr. Garofalo do you? No one can honestly embrace non-leftist views… it’s either the result of trauma or the limbic brain.

    or EVIL. Plain EVILness.

  5. Pablo says:

One sign of a stable, well-adjusted childhood is when you draw dicks and jizz stains on the faces of celebrities you don’t like on the interwebz.

What’s interesting is that Carrie’s “anti-homosexuality” can be traced to childhood trauma, but one cannot ever link a childhood event (abuse) resulting in homosexuality. Cause it’s hatey. And they were born that way. Hater.

  7. Carin says:

Pablo, see that’s the hate talking. He draws that stuff ’cause it’s just so funny.

Sometimes, I go into male bathrooms just to read the funny.

Okay, I finally give up. What’s a limbic brain? Is this something I can look up on Wikipedia? Frankly, I’ve been afraid to look.

You don’t just read Dr. Garofalo, you live Dr. Garofalo.

Beck’s claiming on the radio right now California is going to strip Prejean of her crown because she “posted semi nude.” I haven’t heard that but nothing surprises me about these assholes.

  11. Alec Leamas says:

    she “posted semi nude.”

Sorry if this creeps anyone at PW out, but I post semi-nude all the time.

  12. Abe Froman says:

Thank God we have so many proggies around to demonstrate the virtue of a trauma-free childhood. I mean imagine if everyone was too traumatized and repressed to worship gaia, wear papier mache masks, shout down people they disagree with, fill the outside of their car with bumper stickers, make fun of law-abiding/tax-paying people who believe in God and work so hard to make vegan food taste like meat.

  13. Carin says:

California really is going down the shitter, isn’t it?

You know, I’ve never visited the State (I’ve been to Washington and Oregon) and every year of my life makes me less and less desirous of making the trip.

  14. Darleen says:

California is going to strip Prejean of her crown because she “posted semi nude.”

I haven’t seen the photos, but Prager last week was blasting the people who are engaged in destroying Prejean especially over this … according to many the pics don’t reveal anything more than what she exposed when she wore the bikini in the pageant. It’s just an excuse to create a scandal.

  15. Sdferr says:

    Going, Carin?

Its almost like the Psychological profession stopped looking into that all at once. Hmmmm . . .

Gay Is Okay With APA-Forum Honors Landmark 1973 Events

    Article Abstract:

Psychiatrists marked the 25th anniversary of the de-classification of homosexuality as a mental disorder at the American Psychiatric Association (APA) annual meeting in June, 1998. The movement to delete homosexuality from the official list of mental disorders began at the APA’s meeting in San Francisco in 1970, which was marked by demonstrations by gay and antiwar protesters. Psychiatrists were already redefining what it means to be normal or not normal. In 1973, the APA’s board of trustees voted in favor of deleting homosexuality from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, a move that was supported by a majority of psychiatrists.

  17. Carin says:

YOu see, though, Darleen … As Meghan so painfully explained to us last week, Conservative are so uptight about sex, she may as well be nekkid. So, you must convert her “almost nude” pictures (with a sliding scale of HYPOCRISY!) to full-hard-core XXX images.

If we conservative would just loosen up a bit … well, this wouldn’t have to happen.

  18. Darleen says:

adding to my last comment…. there are claims Prejean posed “nude” or “topless” and again, torture of the language… HER BACK is turned to the camera.

  19. Darleen says:

    Carin

IMHO the “uptight about teh sex” crap from the Left is projection.

  20. Alec Leamas says:

adding to my last comment…. there are claims Prejean posed “nude” or “topless” and again, torture of the language… HER BACK is turned to the camera.

Yeah, I mean if you paid for topless pictures and got that, I’d say that you were the victim of some sort of fraud.

Darleen, I’ve heard that you’re often topless under your clothes. Scandal!11!!

  21. Carin says:

Ok, now this is almost funny* .

Purpose: To compare and contrast lesbians’ and heterosexual women’s experiences of sexual assault and to investigate relationships between sexual assault and alcohol abuse. Methods: In-depth interviews were conducted with 63 lesbians and a demographically matched comparison group of 57 heterosexual women. Lesbians’ and heterosexual women’s experiences of sexual assault, drinking levels, and alcohol-abuse indicators were compared using descriptive statistics. LISREL analysis was used to test the effects of sexual assault on a latent measure of alcohol abuse. Results: Lesbians reported more childhood sexual experiences, were more likely to meet the study definition for childhood sexual abuse (CSA), and were more likely to perceive themselves as having been sexually abused as children. CSA was associated with lifetime alcohol abuse in both lesbian and heterosexual women. However, adult sexual assault (ASA) was associated with alcohol abuse only in heterosexual women. Implications: Sexual assault is a common experience among both lesbians and heterosexual women. Findings emphasize the importance of asking about sexual assault in health histories, and assessing clients for substance abuse and other sequelae of sexual assault.

Don’t you hate it when the results don’t really seem to match you’re pre-conceived implications?

    * I have my free pass to joke on this, because I was molested as a kid. Authenticity or something.

  22. Carin says:

rleen, I’ve heard that you’re often topless under your clothes. Scandal!11!!

Well, I rarely wear underwear. And when I do, it’s usually something special.

  23. Matt says:

Lets see, Alec’s comment disturbed me, Carin’s comment titilated me (…) and I regret my poor Monday morning spelling.

Also, I’ve seen the Prejean pic in question (in the interest of research of course) and as Darleen notes, its her topless but turned to her side- nothing is seen – its a modeling photo. She showed more skin in the bikini. Plus, its kinda funny to see the party of Hefner, Flint and most of the porn industry offended over a “semi nude pic”.

  24. Rob Crawford says:

Plus, its kinda funny to see the party of Hefner, Flint and most of the porn industry offended over a “semi nude pic”.

They’re not offended. They’re assuming we’ll be offended.

It’s actually quite amusing to watch the folks who have declared themselves worldly sophisticates incapable of understanding people who literally live next door to them.

  26. geoffb says:

IMHO the “uptight about teh sex” crap from the Left is projection.

Think about how it feels when you realize that every “bad” thing the Left hates about conservatives is a projection of their own fear of exactly what they will do when they have the power to do so unopposed.

We, as they see us, are a creation, the reflection of the “monsters in their id” to use a SciFi allusion.

  27. Sdferr says:

Projection, heh. geoffb, take a look at this piece by Alan Wolfe (a “centristish” Dem poli-sci prof.) written back in 2004. Read the whole thing for grins, but this bit in particular jumped out at me in light of the current administrations actions and behavior:

Liberals think of politics as a means; conservatives as an end. Politics, for liberals, stops at the water’s edge; for conservatives, politics never stops. Liberals think of conservatives as potential future allies; conservatives treat liberals as unworthy of recognition. Liberals believe that policies ought to be judged against an independent ideal such as human welfare or the greatest good for the greatest number; conservatives evaluate policies by whether they advance their conservative causes. Liberals instinctively want to dampen passions; conservatives are bent on inflaming them. Liberals think there is a third way between liberalism and conservatism; conservatives believe that anyone who is not a conservative is a liberal. Liberals want to put boundaries on the political by claiming that individuals have certain rights that no government can take away; conservatives argue that in cases of emergency — conservatives always find cases of emergency — the reach and capacity of the state cannot be challenged.

  28. geoffb says:

They’re not offended. They’re assuming we’ll be offended.

There are levels to the power structure of the Left. The ones at the top, the leaders, are the most prissy, prudish, intolerant bunch of control freaks as the planet has ever produced. However it is complete control of others that is their main addiction.

The Flints, Hefners, pron industry, LGTBs of the Left are those easily controlled through their sexuality. They are useful idiots to the Left. Tolerated and allowed their amusements as long as they prove to be of use. Become a political enemy and see how that vaunted “tolerance” vanishes.

  29. geoffb says:

    Sdferr,
And to think he was able to write that with no sense of irony attached, to him or the piece.

  30. Sdferr says:

What’s the weirdest to me about the thing geoff is that it’s so fucking comprehensive.

  31. geoffb says:

    I like this part too.

“To the degree that conservatives bring to this country something like Schmitt’s friend-enemy distinction, they stand against not only liberals but America’s historic liberal heritage. That may help them in the short run; conservative slash-and-burn rhetoric and no-holds-barred partisanship are so unusual in our moderately consensual political system that they have recently gotten far out of the sheer element of surprise, leaving the news media without a vocabulary for describing their ruthlessness and liberals without a strategy for stopping their designs. But the same extremist approach to politics could also harm them if a traditional American concern with checks and balances and limits on political power comes back into fashion.

  32. Abe Froman says:

    Re: #27

It’s like Wolfe sees the world in photo negative.

  33. Sdferr says:

    Curiouser and curiouser, ain’t it?

  34. geoffb says:

One of the ingenious things the Left did is take something which is simply part of a persons life, a part that doesn’t change or doesn’t change much, their sexuality, their skin color, and attach, no, weld to that a political view. So that any attack on that political view becomes an attack on something that is an intrinsic part of your self. Ingenious and IMNSHO, very evil.

  35. J. "Trashman" Peden says:

The Flints, Hefners, pron industry, LGTBs of the Left are those easily controlled through their sexuality. They are useful idiots to the Left.

    There is that.

I think in large part they’re determined to circumscribe our classical freedoms to the smallest area possible, so as to protect their own power and illusions. Thus, stripping is “free speech” but criticizing a politician is not. They can still tell us they’re protecting “free speech” while having reduced it to a meaningless, unthreatening mush.

And, yeah, I’m still pissed at the idiot Republicans who thought campaign finance “reform” was a good idea.

  45. louchette says:

and now i shall make everyone here feel all icky and shun me, probably. except blowhard, who it will probably give a ginormous boner. >_> but i have to do this, because it so beautifully illustrates the stupidity of ‘identity politics.’

in grad school my girl friend (not girlfriend) and i joined the college GLBT collective. because we are both bisexual. and we only lasted about two months before we quit and stormed out in a huff. because we were both sick of being treated with so much bitterness and nastiness and rudeness and often outright contempt, both overt (name calling and such) and covert (whispering and gossiping and shunning us at social events.) and that abuse all came from the dykes (never from the fags) who were pissed off that we refused to play for their team exclusively. and also because we didn’t hate men, we liked them and thought they were awesome (too.) thing is, we didn’t want to play for a ‘team.’ we just wanted to be treated as individuals. so they didn’t like us or want us around. we just made them angry and confused and resentful and cruel. so eventually we told them all to go fuck themselves with their restrictive identity classification bullshit.

like HF says (paraphrasing,) it wasn’t the gay it was the stupid what drove us off.

and just for the record: i find both physical forms beautiful and appealing. but i could never be in a relationship with another woman. cuz in real life i’m like elaine bennis: all of my close friends are male and none are female. and if i don’t even want them for friends, why would i want to share my life with one?

and also, since i’m ‘out’ here now and i know these things intimately *cough* let me say: conservatives are by far the hottest lovers. <3 (IMO, YMMV, yadda) and even when they aren’t that hot at least they’re usually nicely groomed. (but i still wouldn’t do meghan, cuz she’s a fattie and totally not sexy.)

  46. McGehee says:

Louchette, would you and your college girlfriend like to meet sometime for a more, um, in-depth discussion of this issue?

  47. Rob Crawford says:

thing is, we didn’t want to play for a ‘team.’ we just wanted to be treated as individuals.

    Well, there’s your problem.

  48. louchette says:

unfortunately she moved to south africa. but maybe we could get her on skype. ;-)

  49. Carin says:

louchette, bisexual chicks are the good gay. Now head right to Ace’s joint and make their day over there;)

  50. louchette says:

carin — i read ace, but i never comment there. and yeah, men love that fantasy: there’s twice as much chance they might see naked boob! and if they’re looking at naughty pics there’s no competition from potentially more attractive men. it’s the same reason why all the little insecure, self-loathing, socially retarded girls write slash and fanfic. not all slash writers are like that. but most sure are. they don’t want to think of their idols as asexual, but they also can’t handle the idea of them being with any women who are potentially prettier than they are. (which OT, but btw, constance penley and the most others who have done scholarly academic work on slash fic are full of shit with their theories of ‘parity.’ they’re nice pat little theories. but they don’t describe the real people writing this stuff in the real world at all.)

This thread has become totally worthless without pictures.

  54. happyfeet says:

He looks sorta like this, but more pensive.

  55. louchette says:

that bear looks very nice HF. the right kind of soft and squishy what makes for a perfect stuffed animal. if you ever had to give him up i might consider adopting him. smoke smell and all. i still have a few of mine, including my childhood snoopy plush. and i sometimes tease my husband, ‘who is going to take care of him when i am gone? i don’t trust *you.* and i don’t want him to end up as a hood ornament.’ (for some reason most of the garbage trucks here in the city have stuffed animals, and usually snoopies (which wtf?) that the guys have rescued from the trash lashed to their front grills.)

  57. happyfeet says:

I rescued my brother’s pooh bears what he used to sleep with. He was going to throw them away and that seemed very wrong. They’re in a box somewhere. What also I think is long after people have forgotten George Washington they’ll know who Snoopy is and I say that even though we don’t really know what happens when copyright expires on these ones. I kind of doubt that’ll be a mystery what gets solved in my lifetime, but maybe.

  60. Sigivald says:

Pet Peeve time – I’d say it’s wrong to call Davis a pedophile (assuming, arguendo, that the allegations are true) in any case, given that sexual attraction to 17 year olds is simply not pedophilia.

Acting on such a desire is statutory rape (as well as in many or most cases arguably immoral), but pedophilia as a psychological/medical term has a meaning, and it’s sexual attraction to pre-pubescents, not to merely legal minors.

Conflating the term with attraction to or sex with 16 and 17-year-olds is bad precisely because it makes light of the dangers of actual pedophilia.
