“Why does he bash us?”

The President, that is.

The Powerline guys offer one set of explanations. Me, I have a slightly different take: as with everything else in his life, Obama views the Presidency as a mere stepping stone to the next even bigger thing over which he is entitled to take ownership. His entire existence is one long campaign push, and he has quite clearly built his identity around a belief in his own (manufactured and undeserved) hype.

Which is why more and more these days he appears to be campaigning overseas for the job of King of the World.

Sadly, his opponent seems to be the classical liberal ideals on which our country was founded. And let’s face it: classical liberalism doesn’t have the star appeal that Obama’s PR machine is able to gin up, nor is it willing to curry favor with continental elites in order to gain entry into their salons.

Perhaps if we all pitch in and buy it a new suit and a really expensive haircut, though…

    Why does he bash us?

He’s shooting for “most unique President of all time, ever”!!!?

Me, I’m looking forward to not being a “world leader” anymore. It was always a pain.

Finally, America will be able to let it’s core values show through. Values of the common clay, the salt of the earth.

    You know – assholes.

  3. George Orwell says:

I think he’s aiming for Kim Jong-il’s slot. After all, Kim can launch a ballistic missile and the remaining world superpower does nothing. Barry sees that as a position of supreme license. Besides, North Korea is very green. Few cars and little electricity.

    Leonardo DiCaprio?

  7. Foreigners love that he slaps this country in the face. But they don’t need a leader. Guerrillas and tyrants want to use him… not hire him.

  8. Kirk says:

I fall in line with those that believe Obama holds that there is nothing special about America; it is just a squiggle of arbitrary lines that keeps all of humanity apart and from succeeding as one.

    Oh, and he sucks.

  9. U-238 says:

At least, as King of the World, he can use real columns in Greece. Denver just didn’t have much Mycenaean period architecture to pool from.

Which was damn inconvienient of them, considering he blessed them with his self-annointing there.

  10. Mikey NTH says:

    “Why does he bash us?”

    Habit.

  11. Brock says:

I think Classical Liberalism needs a good uniform or shiny logo. Those U.S. Marines seem to recognize that it’s not enough to have a storied history & deep appreciation for tradition, force of arms, and freedom – you need some flash too. Perhaps a little Shield of Athena pin.

  12. Mr. Pink says:

Funny I do not hear excerpts of his bashing except on right wing websites. Our main sources of information seem to be focusing on how good Michelle Obama looks and how presidential Obama is being.

  13. Hadlowe says:

    A parable:

A chess-club nerd is invited to a bitchin’ party by the head cheerleader. He puts on his least nerdy outfit and attends the party. At the party, all the kids are a little bit to a lot toasted and engage in various forms of nerd-bashing. Feeling his groove, chess club engages in a bit of nerd-bashing, going along to get along, while reaching for a dixie cup of cheap beer and hoping for a bit of drunken groping. Head cheerleader stumbles over and stops him. “You’re not here to fit in, chess club,” she says with a bit of a tipsy slur. “You’re here to take people’s keys. You’re supposed to be responsible so we don’t have to be.”

Opie craves the approval of the press. It’s that simple. He has always shit all over those who have helped him.
His drunken philandering Muslim Daddy abandoned him and his mom, so naturally Opie wrote a book about Daddies dreams. Opie has never worked for anything in his life. He has had everything handed to him. He is exactly what is wrong with affirmative action. He doesn’t appreciate anything, and he craves more praise.

I’m with Jeff: this is just one more attempt to get some of that sweet narcissistic supply: adulation.

And there’s no better gig than being “bigger than America,” no better high.

It’s about him and him only.

Eh, I think its pretty simple. Liberals bash America and will continue to do so, until America is changed (by them) into whatever form suits them best.

But they got me on the run
Treat me like I have a gun
    All I got is knowledge
    All I got is data

    Embrace the future

    Would you abort meh?

For the stem cells, of course.

  28. Dan Are says:

    “Embrace the future

Good old doublespeak. First the left took over “liberal”, as if more goverment could make you liberated. Now they seem to want to think they own “progressive”, when government never invented ANYTHING, and wealth redistribution has been a failed approach for the last hundred years. They tried painting republicans as the party of corruption, and look what a joke THAT’s become. Next time they fall in the polls they’ll call themselves conservatives, for wanting to conserve economic growth.

  29. self-esteem whoring on an epic, global scale. i think. fwiw.

  30. Pablo says:

    Would you abort meh?

    Yes. Just because.

  31. steph says:

Why does he bash us? I heard from Jamie Foxx last night that African Americans are doin’ country for the first time evah! (Huh? Well, fuck you Charlie Pride!), just like an African American is running the country for the first time evah! (“Hey everybody, give it up for Obama!”)So, maybe it’s some kinda convergence, and O! is going to replace Natalie Maines as front-running amerika-basher for the Dixie Chicks? That would be so cool! Cause he can tell jokes, and sing, and not be minstrel-ly at all.
Or, maybe because that’s what you learn to do to fit in with the cool chomskyites at the best and the the brightest ivy schools?

Advocate for mob rule? Jesus Christ, you really have gone off the deep end, Nishi.

  39. Mikey NTH says:

And ignorant goes without saying, since that is what the site Pablo linked to said.
    And we already knew that.

  40. Pablo says:

  41. dicentra says:

…you simply cannot claim the Holy Mantle of Classic Liberalism while you advocate for mob-rule in a Republic.

Geez, not even Glenn Beck advocates mob rule.

  42. jessd says:

classical liberalism also doesn’t help pave the road to hell with “good intentions” because it’s too busy rambling on about such antiquated notions as personal responsibility and action…how ’90s. and i don’t mean clinton!

  43. datadave says:

whine, whine, losers. Bernie Madoff is the face of Classical Liberalism. Alan Greenspan too. Obama and ‘liberals’ reject your corruption. All that crony capitalism has its roots in Reagan who gave us this Depression. And you did too, thank you, jeffo. NOW stop ur whining and sell your gold and buy some Irish banks and stop the whining. Don’t forget that SWHC stock either..you wingers (ala Glenn Beck) are making investors money!

“First the left took over “liberal”, as if more goverment could make you liberated. Now they seem to want to think they own “progressive”, when government never invented ANYTHING, and wealth redistribution has been a failed approach for the last hundred years.”

totally not true: Conservatives attacked Liberals and claimed they were Leftists even though it was the Liberal Establishment that defeated communism…Long Before Reagan’s fawning fans claimed HE did.

Obama never has tried to portray himself as the anointed “ONE” unlike the egomaniac Ronald Reagan and his millions of fawning adorers.

  44. Nishi_Jenkins says:

Wow pablow….that old LIFE!4Terri site aka DL is still functional?
I thot the terribots were pretty much extinct.
That was an interesting discussion at Talk Islam, however.
It was really about capital punishment and apostasy in an Islamic state like Iraq where Islam is the state religion.
in an Islamic state apostasy is isomorphic with treason in a secular state like the US.
So now Iraq can constitutionally execute apostates and heretics just like Pakistan.
    Nice, huh?
Only cost us 800 billion dollars and 4,000 military lives to accomplish that.
    Victory! Freedom!
    lol

  45. Mr. Pink says:

    Can anyone here translate crazy?

  46. Nishi_Jenkins says:

dicentra…imposing socio-religious mores via legislation in a Republic is mob rule.
    “Federalism” is just localized mob-rule.
See wildly popular anti-miscegenation laws and segregation academies.
Unless there a secular reason to oppose SSM, anti-SSM laws will eventually be struck down.
Because America doesn’t have a state religion, like Iraq does.

  47. RTO Trainer says:

  48. happyfeet says:

America could have a state religion if Christians would get off their ass and kill some nonbelievers.

  50. Obstreperous Infidel says:

Holy shit. Who left the door open on the loon door? Whose turn is it to lead DD back to safety and stability?

“So now Iraq can constitutionally execute apostates and heretics just like Pakistan.
    Nice, huh?”

While, agreeing with this statement, to a degree, I think the Iraq population is just a little better off now than when Saddam was in charge. Any honest person would agree. But, again, was it worth it?

  51. Silver Whistle says:

Bernie Madoff is the face of Classical Liberalism.

Go on Dave, I know you are dying to. Show us all, with footnotes and stuff. References, graphs, that kind of thing. Big words.

  52. A fine Scotch says:

  57. Silver Whistle says:

Oh, AFS, that would have to be considerably before 2004. Lets say 1974, but thanks anyway!

  58. Nishi_Jenkins says:

“I think the Iraq population is just a little better off now than when Saddam was in charge”

I agree with that, much better off.
But it is also true that in an Islamic State the state can simply execute whoever it defines as a criminal.
Apostates are isomorphic with traiters, and apostasy is treason, when shari’a law is a part of the state’s constitution.

  59. Mikey NTH says:

Resurgent proof that you cannot fix either stupid or willfully ignorant – that is the DD and matoko – no matter what moniker they dress in.
