OUTLAW Jimmie on Hannan [Dan Collins]

Jimmie Bise, Blogger of The Sundries Shack, considers what’s behind the amazing popularity of British MEP Daniel Hannan, whose pantsing of (one-eyed, unelected Scottish asswipe) Gordon Brown has become a viral sensation in the US, and reading the tea leaves, sees a solidification in the ranks of American conservatives, if not their elected representatives. Go read the whole thing.

Things have gotten so bad for Gordo that even Fausta’s begun to feel sorry for him. Considering, though, that mega-asshole Soros, who is taking delight in the global meltdown and says he’s earned $1.1 billion betting against our economy, says that the UK might have to turn to the IMF for a bailout, I think Mr. Brown deserves the ignominy, though I think, at the same time, his treatment at the hands of Baracky von Schtupp was execrable, if hilarious (regarding the silver coaster set).

And a couple of links to related posts dealing with language and its abuse. The first is from Gabriel Malor at Ace’s (who doesn’t like me much, but never mind) on a 9th Circuit Justice outlining the abuses of his fellows on the Court. The second one is Stacy on “ransom note” rhetoric from the left, and its enablers.

Today’s also Dan Collins’s birthday, so if you’d like to see how he’d like you to observe it, you can find out here. Oh, look, it’s fellow obnoxious Aries person Moe Lane’s birthday, too.

And I hesitate to point you toward this David Thompson post, about an “artist’s” “subversive” “undermining” of the “hegemony” of the “normative,” because it’s kind of sick-making and I don’t feel she should be rewarded with the attention that she so obviously craves, but his commentary makes me link it.

Speaking of sick-making, Donald Douglas has up a post about the accused rapist who gunned down the four Oakland officers (two at a traffic stop, and two while holed up at his sister’s place), the public memorial service and the “protest march” of the killer’s supporters.

Dogs are good people: Sara at Pal2Pal has up a bleg that I talked her into posting, for a dachshund that’s very dear to her family who’s required surgery. So, here’s an opportunity for a little charity.

I thought the speech was a extremely aggressive. There is no need for such forceful talk. We need to stop standing for things if we want to appeal to the moderate middle. The country has changed you see, and they demand socialism, so by God, let’s give it to them. Only we’ll too it in the form of Freedom Vouchers. Please see my upcoming NY Times column for more on this. Yeah, that’s the ticket.

His speech was great. And it’s so timely, what with the language debate that’s been going on.

No teleprompter needed, just point notes and belief and conviction.

He just lost a child, didn’t he? He has it all, and Godspeed to him.

The reduction of Great Britain is really painful for me to watch. I’m a huge Anglophile. By the way does Anglophile necessarily include Saxon heritage?

I’m too lazy to look it up, but in Gibbon’s Decline and Fall there is a very short paragraph devoted to the married life of the Germans, and the inherent democratic nature of it. He noted that husbands really desired their wives to be an integral part of decisions both great and small. In other words, they really liked women.

  6. Mary Louise says:

    Oh, and happy birthday!

  7. Well, Mary Louise, as far as I know only the British (both the Anglo-Saxons and the earlier Celtic Britons) have a a long history of reigning queens.

Most of the rest of Europe had some type of agnatic succession.

  8. Mary Louise says:

    Spies,

I admire Queen Elizabeth more than I can say.

  9. Dan Collins says:

Huh. My wife’s name is Mary Louise, and she’s a big Elizabeth I fan.

  10. dicentra says:

Dan, perhaps you need to check your wife’s Internet logs.

  11. Darleen says:

  12. Jeff G. says:

Happy birthday, Dan. I didn’t know.

  13. Dan Collins says:

Thanks, guys. Don’t sweat it, Jeff. I miss tons of birthdays every year.

I’m going to have a nap to see whether I can’t drink off some of this sleep before I go to the vamp about playpires.

    What’s nice about Oakland is it’s a well-organized community.

  15. Mary Louise says:

I always liked my name. My Dad, who can whistle like nobody’s business, used to call my name when I was out playing with my friends and dinner was about to be served: Maria Luisa, like a song on the wind.

    I’m a Marchie too.

Truth be told, I’m agnostic, but I can’t clamp down on unbelief, that seems stupid. So, Dan, God bless you and yours.

This Brit was sensational on Hannity, especially when talking about their healthcare system.

  22. happyfeet says:

oh. I said happy birthday already on the pub thread. Is that what you mean?

    Oui.

  24. Swen Swenson says:

Happy birthday, Dan. Gotcha covered. At 8:30 sharp I’m turning on all the floodlights. After all, I am one of those guys who work to keep the lights on.

Really though, I think we should encourage all the Earth Hour types to turn off their lights. Turn off the heater too, and the TV while they’re at it, and leave ’em off. They should do it for Gaia and because that’s what they want to become the norm for the rest of us. They’re the ones that want to turn the US into a third world country so let’s just tell them “you first!”

  25. prairiemain says:

I suspect our enemies define us as much as our friends, Dan. Sometimes, one’s adversaries should be worn like a badge of honor.

    Just sayin’

“… he just lost a child, didn’t he?”

I think you’re getting him mixed up with David Cameron, the current Leader of the Conservatives in Westminster, who has not yet made the speech he should have made long ago about the Tory party’s intentions about the Lisbon Treaty and Yurrup in general. He will now be looking over his shoulder at Dan Hannan as a potential usurper of his leadership. Btw Hannan was a supporter of Obama throughout the US Presidential campaign; his excuse was that he thought that having a mullatto as President would make America ‘more popular’ around the globe. Hmmnn. While I laud Hannan for confronting Brown in a European forum and letting him have it both barrels for three whole minutes or so (that would never be possible in the House of Commons as the Speaker would call ‘order’ over ungentlemanly conduct) he did not say anything about Brown that a majority of the electorate now says more vehemently and daily in their homes, in the pubs and in the workplace. Brown the ‘one-eyed Scottish Scottish idiot’ (as he was named by one outspoken TV reporter recently) is well past his sell-by date. He has yet to face a General Election because he was shoe-horned into position when Blair ‘stood down’ (ousted by coup d’etat in fact) and will not have to face the people until next June, unless his own party dumps him (as they did Blair) before that. He has, without doubt, been the worst PM we have had since Chamberlain and has done far more damage to our country and our culture. He will get a terrible drubbing at the G20 for his ineptitude; he has been one of the major architects of this financial crisis both during his stint as Chancellor of the Exchequer and as Prime Minister. His cabinet choices have been almost as risible as those of Obama and they have a common cause – international neo Marxism, a la Gramsci et al.

Happy Birthday Dan! March is a good month to be born – it happened to me too, but 75 years ago rather than 49. Hope I’m still around next year to wish you happy half-century!

  27. Mikey NTH says:

Dan – if I understand correctly, Gordon Brown has to be a Member of Parliament to be Prime Minister. There isn’t any election for Prime Minister, just that he is a Member of Parliament, and that the majority party/coalition selects him to fill that role.

  28. Frank P says:

    Mikey NTH

You are correct. The political parties here elect their leader. At a General Election the parties nominate candidates for constituences and whichever party gets the most seats in Parliament forms the Government. But increasingly in recent years the Prime Minister has become ‘Presidential’ – people tend to vote for a charismatic Leader of a party, rather than a political ideal. As I noted above, Brown ousted Blair mid-term, so he has yet to face the electorate as PM. No telling yet what the outcome will be, but it is looking increasingly bleak for him and he must call an election by June 2010 at the latest. He displays many of the autistic symptoms described by Dr Asperger. He also suffers from delusions of grandeur and thinks he can save not only the planet but the entire Universe from the chaos of accident and dissolution, rather than become part of the problem, which to the rest of us he manifestly is!

  29. Mary Louise says:

    Frank,

I knew a little about Hannan, but evidently not enough. Your response sent me looking for David Cameron on You Tube. His exchanges with Gordon Brown are a lot of fun to watch.

I’m sorry to have confused Hannan with MP Cameron concernng the loss of his child.

In reviewing some clips of exchanges between Blair and Brown and Cameron, it struck me how even the PM has to be willing to brawl, so to speak.

There was one particular exchange betwen Blair and Cameron on the subject of the NHS. It scares me to think of leaving our own health care problems in the hands of our Reps and Senators.

Thanks for the correction and elaboration. They’re appreciated.

  30. Velociman says:

Happy Birthday, Dan. You’ll be pleased to know Christopher Dodd is sponsoring a bill tomorrow that will retroactively tax your birthday presents at 90%. Although how one commandeers 90% of an inflatable sheep is a question for the ages.

UPDATE: Barney Frank says to just leave you the hole.

    OUTLAW!
