How about let’s have the de facto leader of the Democratic Party debate the de facto leader of the Republican Party?
Seems some people haven’t gotten the message: Only 11% of Republicans consider El Rushbo their party’s leader. But, hey, what do they know?
UPDATE: As McGehee notes in the comments, Limbaugh proposes the same.
Soros vs Rush? Cool.
They can supply whichever de facto they like, Silver Whistle.
Can we have a pool for when Jeff calls for someone to suck his de facto dick? Jeff is not eligible for the pool.
And a Soros v. Rush debate would be awesome!
Since Baracky thinks Rush is the leader of the Republicans, and Baracky claims to be Teh One that brings people together, and claims to want to bring a spirit of bipartisanship to politics, it would only make sense that he would be willing to meet with Rush. He is willing to meet with Iran without preconditions, why not Rush?
“He is willing to meet with Iran without preconditions, why not Rush?”
‘Crushed By Rush’ would not be an attractive headline.
Comrade Lenin is indisposed.
“Rasmussen Reports is testing public reaction to a series of quotes made by newsmakers recently. For this topic, respondents were asked if they agreed or disagreed with the statement, “Rush Limbaugh is the leader of the Republican Party. He says jump, and they say how high.â€
That statement came from Brad Woodhouse, president of the liberal advocacy group Americans United for Change. His group is co-sponsoring national television ads with the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees that link Limbaugh to the GOP. Woodhouse was not identified in the survey. ”
Nice object sources they’re using.
And they still loooose.
Well, Mr. Limbaugh has just called out Teh O!ne for a stand-up debate, and the Obamarrhoids are raining down on him insisting he has no right to argue against President Hopey McChange.
Did you tivo RedEye last night Dan? Andy Levy asks Ann Coulter whether Michael Steele wasn’t rather the de jure leader than the de facto leader (Steele had stated that he, Steele, is de facto leader, prompting Levy’s question), which Ann pondered a moment and replied, “You may have a good point there, Andy. But…blah, blah, blah.” Steele really is proving to be a putz.
Obama has achieved his objective. The news is focused on Rush, rather than the issues or the Republicans in Congress, who actually have a vote. And Rush is lapping it up.
You can have your own opinions, Dan, but you can’t have your own de factos.
Sdferr, I honestly don’t do television, but I’ll look for it online.
This is nothing but a distraction, the old style of attack politics, designed to distract you from the fact that Baracky’s stimulus package and lack of stewardship of the economy has the DOW below 7000.
Dan, good point. I think Rushbo would eat any of the Dems alive and pick his teeth with their cracked thighbones.
I linked it Dan, the exchange is about one minute in, around 3:30 on their countdown clock. (I had noticed before that you had remarked that you don’t do tv and I forgot about that, sorry…)
So is it their position that we have a dictatorship, monarchy, or flat-out God King?
Maybe the God-Emperor of Dune.
(D) All of the above.
And the reason Rush would win this debate and indeed, can cost Tom Dascle his seat is he has nothing to fear from any of these people. Its like the great scene in the Dark Knight, when Batman is kicking the shit out of the joker and the Joker between punches, laughs hysterically “you have NOTHING to threaten me with…”.
These people have gone after Limbaugh for 20 years. When he was younger, he was more vulnerable. I think he wised up during the entire prescription drug debacle and realized, yep, they really are after you. But with years and years of vitriol bouncing off him (insert weight joke here), he knows they cannot touch him. If he loses listeners, so what. He’ll play golf. If he loses advertisers, so what ? He’ll do it for free on the internet or sell himself to XM. If he’s threatened by Justice Dept. or local LE investigations, he’ll hire the best lawyers in town, beat the rap and then sue the living hell out of whoever tried to come after him. He is, basically, untouchable, financially, politically and unless he does something stupid, legally. And this allows him to say whatever he wants to and fortunately for us, Rush uses his platform to say the stuff we want to say, even that alot of Republicans want to say, but can’t and never will. Steele ? He’s beholden to the people that put him in charge of the RNC. Candidates for Prez ? THey’re beholden to the people who raise the money and run the state parties. Congressma and Senators, beholden to their constitutients, who care less about ideas then how much money XYZ has brought to the district (which is why that repulsive thug Murtha still has a job). Rush doesn’t have to worry about opinion polls, tracking numbers, the number of minorities who listen to his show, or pandering for votes.
He’s hardly a harmless little ball of fluff to the DNC and I’ll give them this- they freakin know it. If they shut Rush up, they have a free ride and they know that too. But they can’t- individually, he’s bigger than they are collectively and his 20 years of hard work and allowing himself to be one of the most hated men in America is paying dividends. That, to me, is why he’s so important to the Republican party, even if you don’t always like what he says or how he says it.
Let’s recap, shall we?
Rush and prescription pain killers = disgraceful and appalling.
John Edwards fathering a child our of wedlock = silence.
Ted Kennedy killing a woman = silence.
Bill Clinton getting blown by a woman his daughter’s age = none of your business.
Barney Frank gettin’ some hot man love with a Fannie Mae exec = none of your business.
Chris Dodd’s sweetheart mortgage deal = silence.
Charlie Rangell blows off taxes = silence.
Tim Geithner blows off taxes = cabinet appointment.
Bonus points if you an tell me which elected office or cabinet appointment Rush has held.
kelly, you’re 100% right but look no further than the culpability of the liberal press. The 4th Estates job, since the founding, was to print facts (ie the truth)- they were supposed to be a neutral body which would separate the BS from the facts, thus informing an Americans opinions. “Freedom of the Press”, such as its been interpreted, is what it is because the press is supposed to effectively be a neutral party. The newspapers and TV media these days are more akin to pravda than anything the founding fathers had in mind. The press should have treated each of those scandals equally but they didn’t, because they’ve taken a side. I think its patently obvious the loss of readership in newspapers over the last 10 years is directly attributed to the immense left leaning bias they’ve shown- and quite frankly, conservatives tend to be the thinkers and thus the newspaper readers- present them with slanted crap for years and they’ll just stop buying the paper. I know I’ve canceled my subscription and not in outrage over one particular columnist (ie the idiots canceling their LA Times subscription because they had the audacity to allow Jonah Goldberg one column a week). When Modo started showing up on my editorial section more often than say, George Will, I knew it was time to ditch the paper. I can read the comic strips online.
“Let’s recap, shall we?”
Viagra fueled third world sex tourism?
Which, if true, would be your business how, meya? I thought you libbies were all about keeping your noses out of other people’s private lives.
Another classic bait and switch from Meya. Obviously studied at the knee of the consumate used car salesmen of the left, Carville and Begala.
“Which, if true, would be your business how, meya? ”
Oh I’m not involved in that business at all. I do wish it wouldn’t exist though.
I’m sorry. Lets compare.
5 of Obama cabinet appointees = Tax Cheats. Including, mind bogglingly, the Sec o Treasure.
Please address that meya. Seriously. Instead of deflecting. Tell me why Timothy Fucking Geitner, a tax cheat, is telling us he’s going to crack down on tax cheats. Can you do that without referencing any republican ? Because Geitner is in and influencing tax policy.
Soooooo…. Please please please defend Geitner. PLEASE ! And yes, its a trap. A big trap, with big teeth, b/c that’s whats been delivered to us on a silver (tax free) platter.
Ok fair enough but did Obama appoint another when Geitner’s tax problems were all over the news ? When Getiner’s ummm difficulties with Turbo Tax came out, did he appoint somebody else ? Look, I generally believe the Prez should have the right to appoint whoever he wants to the cabinet. However, I do think those persons should be vetted and in compliance with the law, especially when its a financial position and said person cannot seem to comply with the applicable laws. For example, I need to declare about 2k in small business income- there is a question as to which year the income was incurred. Geitner didn’t have that question OR if he did, was not honest in his answer. Also, if there was one tax cheat in the admin (ie lets say you didn’t withhold your maid’s SS contributions) I’m ok with that. however, when the treasury secretary basically tells me he broke the law b/c he didn’t understand the tax software, he’s on his own, seriously. I admit, I don’t understand the tax code as written so I paid 150 bucks to have my taxes done.

And you see no hypocrisy in that, maya? What is it about Barak Obamas greed that you find more honorable than, say, Bill Gates greed?
Were it me Mr Geitner wanted to persue, I’d demand a jury trial and use this administration as an example of noncompliance.I’m pretty sure I could get taxes owed greatly reduced.
Matt. Always, always have a professional do your taxes. Never, never go to an audit meeting yourself. Trust me on this, I’ve been there.
If it weren’t for the fact that Obama has acted this way during and since the campaign, and the teleprompter thing, one might be suspect that we were dealing with a President “Dave†by way he acts and is protected by his staff.
That said, maybe Rush should debate “Obama’s brain” instead of President “Daveâ€
