Neverending Story Offers No Glimpse of Ending [Dan Collins]

Leaders of the Senate Finance Committee this afternoon revealed that another of President Obama’s nominees — U.S. Trade Representative-designate Ron Kirk — has tax problems.

Finance staff briefed aides to committee members today on the revelations, which indicate the former Dallas mayor underpaid taxes to the tune of $9,975 during 2005-07, and that he has agreed to promptly file adjustments. The underpayments deal in part with speaking honoraria he received that he listed as charitable donations to his alma mater, Austin College.

Kirk instead should have reported the honoraria as taxable income and then deducted the donations. The panel also asked Kirk for substantiation of other charitable donations he has made, including a television set, and it has questioned Kirk’s write-offs of business expenses, including those for Dallas Mavericks season tickets.

“Trade Nominee Kirk Agrees to Pay Back Taxes”

Agrees to? Because, you know, paying taxes is fucking optional.

If he keeps nominating tax cheats to his Cabinet, Baracky may have this deficit just yet!

Pardon me, but I did spend many a year at the public skools.

I think Bob Gibbs should be banned from talking before 4 pm EST. Barack too. And Axelrod. And Emmanuel. And Geithner.

But really, if Gibbs has been charged with getting O’s message out, he’s done a great job: Start shitting your pants!

I know it is a large sum, but relative to what. People like Daschle and Geither who really have no excuse are one thing, but I can see entering this amount into the wrong field and getting the wrong number. Making a mistake, and actually evading taxes are quite different.

Now that I said that, he’ll be revealed to be a pompous DB.

  14. Wm T Sherman says:

They want us to pay all our taxes, including some brand new ones, but they don’t pay all of their own. They want to gut the Second Amendment so we won’t have access to guns, which will not affect their safety because they have access to armed security personnel. They want to take away our privacy, but they conduct their own business hidden from view.

That’s not quite it, but there’s something “off” there.

Ron Kirk knows better than to get in bed with the Chicago street trash Soros toadies what are defiling our White House. He has more sense than this. Maybe this is his way out.

Yeah. Come to think of it McClellan is a Texan too. Seems that all democrats from Texas are total booger-eaters. Thank for pointing that out leo.

Not with Kirk I don’t think. He’s not corrupt that I know of ever. I’m really disappointed in his judgment though. When Baracky asks you to serve your country what you should say is fuck off, shithead and you will be a lot serving your country. Don’t be a dirty socialist collaborator, Ron. You’re better than this.

He worked real hard to pass the medicare drug entitlement. Thats not socialism

Voted YES on limited prescription drug benefit for Medicare recipients.
Medicare Prescription Drug and Modernization Act of 2003: Vote to adopt the conference report on the bill that would create a prescription drug benefit for Medicare recipients. Starting in 2006, prescription coverage would be made available through private insurers to seniors. Seniors would pay a monthly premium of an estimated $35 in 2006. Individuals enrolled in the plan would cover the first $250 of annual drug costs themselves, and 25 percent of all drug costs up to $2,250. The government would offer a fallback prescription drug plan in regions were no private plans had made a bid.Over a 10 year time period medicare payments to managed care plans would increase by $14.2 billion. A pilot project would begin in 2010 in which Medicare would compete with private insurers to provide coverage for doctors and hospitals costs in six metropolitan areas for six years. The importation of drugs from Canada would be approved only if HHS determines there is no safety risks and that consumers would be saving money.

As there has been no real consequences of nominating (or confirming, hi SecTreas!) tax cheats, tax incompetants, tax oopsers, etc., why not just go for the full thing. Marc Rich for Secretary Without Portfolio!

Yes the double standard is blatantly obvious for all to see. Imagine the media reaction if BOOOOSH nominated a whole slew of tax cheats. Well, with the Dems in full control now, it’ll be hard to convince Americans that the economy and their 401Ks are doing just fine thanks and Rush Limbaugh is the real scourge of America.

Make no mistake about it, they’ll try. But the era of Hope and Change is starting to fade as that cold bitch of reality begins to smack the Democrats and the media in the face. This is precisely why we’re seeing such a concerted “Look, Rush Limbaugh!” attack. What are they going to run on? A promise to reduce the deficit to 1 trillion dollars at some point? Best of luck with that.

Another great choice and decision by Obama. Not even 3 months in and this so called president is making yet another tax evading candidate. Between his policies, choices and beleifs…I think this has got to be the worst start of a president in some time. Is it 2012 yet?? Get rid of Obama!

  41. Jay says:

Next? Bogoyevitch as ethics czar? Great choices Mr. Obama (ooops, voted for you)
