It’s Gonna Be a Bright, Bright [Dan Collins]

blue scrotumy day!

I can see clearly now my job is gone . . .

Actually, comparatively speaking, this is a pretty minor infraction on this guy’s part. What he should have done is stonewalled and lied for a long time, and let them do an internal investigation, and they would have demoted/transferred him for awhile and then brought him back.

So, you mean he should have followed the LA Times model then?

It does seem to be the industry standard, LTC John.

**The station refused to say in the statement if Sanders was fired or had resigned. Sanders’ profile was removed from WBAL’s Web site.

I find myself surprised that they acted this quickly too, Dan. Maybe WBAL has gotten a clue or maybe they were inundated with hostile mail.

    Dan, Dan, Dan…

    You’re confused friend…

This prerson worked for an affiliate, WBAL. The scenario you outlined would have only worked if that person had worked for network NBC, or MSNBC…

A reporter for an NBC affiliate in Baltimore who inserted a racist remark into a video clip of FOX News’ John Gibson and posted it on YouTube is no longer employed by the station, FOXNews.com has learned.

WTF is wrong with these people? Idiocy is ascendant, no doubt.

  6. happyfeet says:

That’s just stupid. Like ACORN stupid. oh. It’s Baltimore. Don’t tell Jeff I said that but it explains a lot.

Here’s a beautiful thing that Keith Jarret made, thanks to Dimitri Shostakovich, Prelude no. 23 in F. (2:40)

Here it is again, this time with its accompanying Fugue, played by Sviatoslov Richter. (5:27)

On the bright side, he might still qualify for a year of unemployment benefits!

  9. happyfeet says:

I feel badly for him. Doing the interview without permission though is sort of something you know better than to do. Even if it’s nice Breitbart people you can’t talk to them unless your boss knows all about it first and says it’s ok. In writing.

Things are tough for the fired unemployed in Maryland:

DISCHARGED FROM EMPLOYMENT – There are three levels of misconduct in the Maryland Unemployment Insurance Law.
Simple Misconduct – If you were discharged or suspended for simple misconduct in connection with the work.
Benefits are denied from 5 to 10 weeks from the week that includes your last day of work.
Gross Misconduct – If you were discharged or suspended for gross misconduct in connection with the work (serious or repeated violations of employment rules or expected standards of behavior could be considered gross misconduct).
Benefits are denied until you become re-employed and earn 20 times your Weekly Benefit Amount in insured work.
Aggravated Misconduct – If you were discharged or suspended for aggravated misconduct in connection with the work (malicious, deliberate acts meant to cause physical harm, property loss or damage could be considered aggravated misconduct).
Benefits are denied until you become re-employed and earn 30 times your Weekly Benefit Amount in insured work.

I was also wrong about unemployment benefits being extended: Congress has recently enacted economic stimulus legislation. The legislation did not add any additional weeks of unemployment insurance benefits. However, any benefits paid for weekending February 28, 2009 or later will have an additional $25.00 added. These payments are not available at this time. Once these benefits become available, you will be notified.

C’mon, Mr Collins, you could have embedded the YouTube clip for us! Mr Goldstein has plenty of bandwidth to spare.

  12. None of us know how to embed video here, unfortunately.

  13. Speaking of YouTube, does anyone else find that the website succumbs to “internal server error” around this time of day, most days?
