Just in case you haven’t yet seen it, and in thematic concert with the previous post —

“Smoking gun: caller explains Stimulus as Obama plan to fund permanent Democratic patronage system.”

Time to watch Brazil again, I guess.

This makes Obama’s incorrect-number-of-states-in-the-union gaffe very foretelling I think.

  2. Just watched it again two nights ago. It’s prescience is unsettling.

  3. JHoward says:

Of course, every overthrow needs an ideology, too. Writing from the perspective of gender politics in Socialism, Baskerville touches on part of the strategy and tactics used to overthrow the individual in order to appoint the collective:

…beneath the political radar screen, the real consequences are finally emerging: a massive restructuring of the social order, demographic trends that threaten the very survival of Western civilization, and perhaps least noticed, an exponential growth in the size and power of the state — the state at its most bureaucratic and tyrannical.

This is an important undercurrent contributing to the ruin of classical rights and choice. With a patronage system established, surely it’ll need its church.

  4. happyfeet says:

And? I don’t see the problem. Offer me solutions, offer me alternatives and I decline I think. Baracky knows what’s best for us, Jeff.

    I hope you find peace.

  5. Carin says:

The Democrats will be good dictators, ’cause they mean well.

  6. Carin says:

Bwarny Fwranks is going to limit pay on executives, and insure government and union workers never lose their jobs. Hollywood and entertainment need not be bothered with since they’re just the propaganda arm of the Dems/proggs.

Shut down Rightwing radio … voila!

Chavez is attempting to become dictator for life (again) today. These kinds of things used to bug liberal-types. Progressives don’t have a problem with it.

  7. Phil says:

Is it time to go John Galt yet? It’s hard to build a patronage system without willing dupes taxpayers.

  8. Jeff G. says:

I won’t bother rehashing any of what I’ve written over the last 8 years about what progressives would do with power.

I’d rather just point and smile a sad knowing smile.

Well, at least until it’s time to beat somebody’s ass.

  9. Darleen says:

How much ridicule was heaped on anyone that dared point out that Obama was a creation of Chicago politics and that he’d bring Chicago to the White House?

This isn’t a surprise. Obama promises “transparency” but he’s going to sign the pork bill on TUESday … no five days of posting and commenting from the public. No, Obama is in full campaign mode running around the country at carefully staged worship Him sessions while Rahm is snarling about “toothless Republicans” and grabbing control of the Census back at the White House.

    We Are All Fascists Now

  10. Darleen says:

    Phil

As I pointed out earlier I just had occassion to have a professional hand me a card and state he works off the books.

It is harder for people who earn a wage/salary, but look to service professions to start working for cash … and people looking to secondary cash jobs.

  11. Phil says:

Darleen, I did see that. OUTLAWS!

Our deficit is projected to be 14 percent of GDP this year. The previous high (yes, even during Ronnie Ray-gun’s Presidency!!!!111!!!) was 6 percent of GDP. If your math is sharp, you realize the deficit will be more than twice as high as its ever been as a percent of GDP.

One would think a “change” politician would want to genuinely fix the nation’s problems rather than shovel money to Democratic patronage systems when the nation is so close to simply defaulting on its debt.

But if you thought that, you’d be wrong. This guy is a Chicago politician first and foremost after all.

  12. Sdferr says:

What has struck me about Pres. Obama’s trips to townhalls to promote Mrs. Pelosi’s spending bill is what a waste of time it is in the larger scheme of things. It isn’t necessary with a view to acquiring the passing votes. It isn’t informative in the sense of actually explaining what’s in the bill (quite the contrary, most of the “information” the White House produces about the bill is mis-informative).

And in the final analysis, there are only a few working hours in a day, days in a week, weeks in a Presidency. Doesn’t Obama have many better things to be doing, like learning something about Afghanistan and Pakistan, about Russia, about the Ukraine and Georgia, about China and international finance, and on and on? What the hell is he doing wasting time like this? I’m almost inclined to believe that pissing away the time is the point.

  13. Phil says:

    Sdferr,

The ONLY thing Baracky is good at is campaigning. He has no leadership to speak of, no experience to speak of, he’s never actually run anything (a hot dog stand let alone a country), but he does speak nicely in front of a teleprompter.

So expect to see the Permanent Campaign during Baracky’s presidency. It’s the only things he knows how to do. It’s pretty embarrassing that we elected a guy whose only strength is being on the campaign trail.

Well, I shouldn’t say “we” elected him. Nobody with a right mind/common sense voted for this guy. Baracky’s voters are simply people who overlooked all the criticisms made about him (and ALL of those have come true, haven’t they?) because they got caught up in the “change” meme.

I’ve said it multiple times and I’ll say it again. Apologies from his voters aren’t necessary and won’t be accepted – just do the right thing next time.

  14. Sdferr says:

Phil, please see the brand marketing conversation in the How About a Bronze… thread.

  15. geoffb says:

The one problem I see for them in turning the USA into a bigger version of the Chicago machine is that the rest of the world is not, Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan, Iowa and the Downstate. Chicago doesn’t have to worry about Peoria suicide bombers or the Mayor of Detroit launching a missile strike on the Loop.

The comparative advantage Chicago has due to size and location allows the political class to “tax” areas outside their legal jurisdiction and use that revenue to fund the jobs to keep the machine going. That will be harder to do on a national level unless we settle for third world status with a wealthy powerful elite and grinding poverty for the other 99%. They will try however.

  20. RDub says:

Well…assuming Kwame gets out of jail, let’s just say that we shouldn’t completely discount that 2nd possibility.

The permanent campaign needs permanent campaign workers, doesn’t it?

Jeff’s warning is appropriate: A robber baron or mafia like leader is far preferable to those who wants to do what is in your best interest and think they know best. Utopian ideas of government rarely turn out well.

Patting yourself on the back is sort’a like beating your own ass. Arf.

    O!

Nah. They’ll come from Morton. Damned Potters.

  25. JHoward says:

They’re not supposed to: that would require both vision and integrity. When thor champions them you know how right that is.

  27. Jeff G. says:

I’d only pat myself on the back were my writings effective at stopping mass stupidity, thor. I’m no Warren Bonesteel.

Instead, my point is I really don’t have all that much to say. I said it, and it did no good. If anything, I’m more likely to whip myself — or wait until I get an NEA grant and have a few bondage dwarves do the whipping for me, only on a stage somewhere, all of us covered in liquid marshmallow.

  28. Mikey NTH says:

Well, Jeff, Washington is the kind of place that is described by the punchline ‘I already know what you are, we’re just negotiating the price.’

I don’t think there is a trillion dollars worth of bloom still left on that rose. Eliot Spitzer must have been the negotiator. Debbie Stabenow’s husband could have done better though I’d have preferred William Shatner.

Kwame IS out of jail, and he’s already found hisself a job. Peter Karmonos hired him as a salesman. @@.
