Andrew Wyeth is Dead [Dan Collins]

He was no Ricardo Montalban*, but he was a great artist nevertheless.

*I mean, what could be more authentic than real Corinthian leather?

Do you really want to make him cry?

They can’t get no satisfaction.

My daughter calls it the eggnoguration.

  1. Darleen says:

    a nit

the phrase was “soft Corinthian leather”

And RIP Wyeth … he came in for some of the same snooty (and snotty) slams as Rockwell as being a “mere illustrator” than artist

Probably because he worked in oils rather than excrement.

  2. Carin says:

What do wingers know about art and Andrew Wyeth? I bet you mouth breathers would find this funny.

  3. Bob Reed says:

As a fan of realism, I always enjoyed Wyeth’s art…

RIP Andrew Wyeth, God rest your sould and grace your family in their time of need…

    Drat! Sould=Soul

  5. Dan Collins says:

God knew what you meant, Bob. He seldom links here, but I’m pretty sure He reads once in awhile.

  6. Spies, Brigands, and Pirates says:

Corinthian leather may be soft and/or rich, but it’s dangerous to acquire.

  7. Carin says:

What’s that tatoo on Boy George’s head? It’s not a Star of David, is it?

“Probably because he worked in oils rather than excrement.”

Your “Crucifix in Piss” isn’t selling on Ebay either? I kinda knew that was a bad investment.

Damn New York Times Art Critic.

The NEA just needs more of our tax dollars. [Eye Roll]

I have one of Wyeth’s prints. “Master Bedroom.” It’s been hanging over my bed in a weathered, barn wood frame since 1996. I love that painting.

Wyeth’s talent will be sorely missed.

    God bless him and his.

    I think it’s a yarmulke, Carin.

Thanks Dan, you’ll let us know if he sends you any hot leads, won’t you?

Especially if it’s to do with Armageddon, or any of that other apocalyptic kinda stuff…

That kinda thing might have a bearing on our vacation plans, or something…

His Mohel was also a tattoo artist.

He shines that thing up for Purim.

That’s why he keeps his head shaved.

I dunno why he wears make up though.

I’m not up to speed on all the Jewish holidays.

    Regardless Carin…

Do you really want to hurt me?

Do you really want to make me cry?

Damn, Carin. Based on your link in #2, my fridge and office wall are worth millions!!!!

  14. RR Ryan says:

Yes, it’s too bad. He was a talented illustrator and I’ve never understood why that would be considered a criticism. It’s like commercial art. The only difference is that the artist gets paid. On a side note, my ex from college lived near them in Chadd’s Ford. By all accounts he was a nice guy.

  15. Mikey NTH says:

His father, N.C. Wyeth, was a great illustrator. I have reprints of some of those books. ‘Kidnapped’, ‘Treasure Island’, ‘The White Company’, ‘Robinson Crusoe’. Good stories and outstanding illustration.

Great illustration can be great art.

Some of his stuff boardered on the surreal.”Landscape with Crows”, just off the top of my head. He has every right to be considered an artist. After all wasn’t Lautrec just a poster painter?

  17. Mikey NTH says:

    #17 Rusty:

Sure, but even an artist has to eat. Doing ads and illustrations pays the rent.

  18. happyfeet says:

Jeez. Norwegian rent boys can be so sensitive.

Gayer than Colin Powell, some of them.
