Breitbart’s “Big Hollywood” [Dan Collins]

I like Andrew’s “Big Hollywood.” There are some talented writers there. It’s in my reader.

The thing is, I don’t give a rat’s ass about Hollywood. Call me provincial, but I just don’t. If you do, though, go check it out.

This kind of thing is why it’s on my reader: Joe Lima’s fascinating article on the elisions in Soderbergh’s stupifyingly dull eulogy to Che Guevara.

More magic realism.

It’s now one of my favorite sites.

    Hey, they got Bill Whittle.

  2. I stopped caring about Hollywood celebs as such when one year I realized I couldn’t tell half of the blond starlets from the other half, in the fan magazines.

  3. Dan Collins says:

    Yeah, Whittle is great.

  4. Mikey NTH says:

    So much on Che.

    So little on Simon Bolivar.

“There are some talented writers there.”

Sure. Obviously. Just like An American Carol is a masterpiece unappreciated in its own time.

  6. Dan Collins says:

Uh . . . let’s just say they have somewhat better chops than the writers at HuffPo.

  7. Pablo says:

You know what was awesome? Redacted. Lots and lots of misunderstood talent in that one.

  8. B Moe says:

You know there is a fine line between sarcastic and stupid.

    Good article, Dan.

  10. Dan Collins says:

Thanks, thor, that’s what I think. It’s amazing how articulate people can be when they know what they’re talking about.

I used to be very into Hollywood and such and then I stopped but I really need to make 2009 the year where I get that back cause I need to have insights and display knowledge and such at job interviews eventually, when the economy gets better. I need a new lens for it is all. I’m thought about maybe using social media for that, but all that still feels so dot com to where it’s kind of boring. Even mobile. I think instead I might make a study of failed and failing media properties. For real. I think it’s an amazing time to really look closely at what’s not working instead of what is. First up on the list of what’s not working: Awards Shows I think.

    oh. *I* thought I meant.

Yes, yes it is. And in Miami, the second capital of Cuba, there are many with similar stories. I hope Obama lifts travel restrictions and Cuban Americans can travel to see their families (one of Obama’s campaign promises to the Cuban community, as you know). I also hope all the Castro’s hurry up and die.

Cuba is pretty scummy. But I think we have our own dirty socialists to worry about and it’ll be hard to get Cuba on my radar anytime soon.

No as usual, you don’t have a !@$$#^&*&^ clue, do you Thor. I didn’t see my father, for twelve years, because the Castro government didn’t let people of draftable age out of the country. I have uncles who drowned in the Florida Straits, trying to get out. the Castro brothers let out only those they wish to. People who try to get out through third countries are often sent back. The Sodebergh film is a white wash, you want a real take on what the real Che’s
is like, rent Andy Garcia’s ‘the Lost City’ with the screenplay by Guillermo Cabrera Infante. good night,

Thor looked up a Cuban girl’s shirt one time and saw her panties, dude, he knows things.
