Culture of Conniption [Dan Collins]

Baltimore Mayor Sheila A. Dixon was charged today by the state prosecutor in a 12-count indictment, becoming the city’s first sitting mayor indicted on criminal offenses.

Dixon was charged with four counts of perjury and two counts of theft over $500, as well as theft under $500, fraudulent misappropriation by a fiduciary and misconduct in office. The charges stem in part from gifts she received from former boyfriend and developer Ronald H. Lipscomb, who was also charged earlier this week.

Dixon, a Democrat, has been the target of a nearly three-year probe by State Prosecutor Robert A. Rohrbaugh into corruption at City Hall, an investigation that has centered on allegations that Dixon has used her office to award lucrative contracts to various people including her sister, her then-boyfriend and her former campaign chairman.

In a statement released by her office this afternoon, Dixon said: “I am being unfairly accused. Time will prove that I have done nothing wrong, and I am confident that I will be found innocent of these charges. … I want to make it clear, though, that I will continue to put all of my energies into running the City of Baltimore during these perilous economic times.” [Emphasis mine]

Time will prove that she has done nothing wrong but only people in dentist’s office waiting rooms will know.

So, how will the Axis of Idiocy (pasrsnip/thor/assclown) spin this? Is there a Democratic pol anywhere that isn’t a corrupt piece of shit? (Hint: the answer is “no”) Yet, their drooling, somnolent supporters see nothing…

Big city politics are corrupt? Who knew?

(Everyone who has ever read about the Tweed Ring and concluded it was pretty standard operations, that’s who. The fact that some city operations actually do what they are supposed to do shouldn’t be a cause for celebration – yet somehow simple competency is.)

    Holy crap, a corrupt Democrat??????

  5. N. O'Brain says:

    sorry, forgot the /s

Everyone knows that when it comes to corruption, the Democrats have the market NAILED, baby.

“Now, before I am inundated with hysterical charges of bad faith and impugned motive, allow me to state my case, and explain why I am convinced mine adversaries are morally corrupt dissemblers, foot soldiers in a mass movement of legerdemain populated by hacks, grifters, con artists, prestidigitators, and sharps.

Harsh words, indeed. However true, and verifiable. For a Leftist does not possess the courage of his convictions, merely the courage of his emotions. And mere emotions, tempestuous and mercurial, are best reserved for high school locker rooms and little girls’ tea parties,…

Tell me he hasn’t nailed our resident reactionary leftist trolls.

  7. N. O'Brain says:

“Another example of Leftist perfidy? Consider the welfare state. No one except perhaps the imaginary hordes of Klansmen and top-hatted whip-cracking capitalist swine that inhabit Leftists’ fevered nightmares begrudges any down-on-their-luck chump a handout.”

    HA! Nailed them AGAIN.

  13. MikeD says:

It is becoming increasingly apparent that Democratic politicians are even more dishonest and corrupt than Republicans. The only difference seems to be their self-righteousness and sanctimonious denial. And am I racist if I point out that something more than 13% (their approximate percentage of the general population) of the crooks appear to be black?

  14. pfeh, apparently MikeD, just commenting here is RACIST!

  15. Joe the Professional Journalist says:

Sure. It’s not as if the GOP hasn’t become a culture of whining.

Or the culture of “It’s everyone’s fault except for me”.

Or the culture of “All we need to do is ostracize 90%(RINOS) of our party in order to prevail as the majority”.

Everything is JUST FINE with the Republican party.

  16. MikeD says:

And if I am then thusly a racist, I frankly don’t give a shit.

  17. oh hey! BUNNIES!!!!

Baltimore was a smuggler’s landing and pirate’s den in addition to being a fishing port, long before there was a United States. Blackbeard’s old stomping grounds, or one of ’em.

  24. Jeffersonian says:

Doesn’t seem that much has changed there, mojo, except the pirates’ haberdashery is a trifle more drab and there aren’t any entertaining fowl on shoulders.

Imo, nobody here really gives a shit about whether things are “just fine” with the Republican Party regarding the “climate of corruption”. Personally, I think it’s a riot when any Politician gets caught with his pants down.

Instead, I think what we see now is called “the Bush Adm. making a play upon what is known as Projection“: while the Dems have been making the propagandistic claim of “corruption”, the Bush Adm. has realized, “The fingers point back to You”, and is tactically making it stick.

I’ve also been wondering as to why this corruption thing has now been making such a big stink in the MSM, as compared to prior – back when it was ignored, except, of course, for the propagandistic claims by Dems. Maybe it’s because the Dems have mainly succeeded in priming the MSM pump concerning “corruption”, which essentially works against Dems themselves, and the Bush Adm. simply decided a while back to seize this inevitable opportunity.

At any rate, “corruption” now seems to be a MSM staple.

Oh, and if any mod cares, can someone frame a post around the difference between a terrorist and a political activist? Granted violence is implied, but what about motive? I’ve always been curious.

  30. um, not all political activists are terrorists? like how not all rectangles are squares.

‘… like how not all rectangles are squares. …’

This is true but it is the squares that worry me the most. The ‘squares’ promote all this PC nonsense, advocate for multicultureism, racial guilt, and ‘if it feels good do it’.

  38. cynn says:

The squares are the terrorists, their apologists, and their facilitators. Now you can sleep late.
