Feist’s The Reminder. Even compared to other chick poetry put to music you’ll find The Reminder exceptionally repulsive but when this CD is mixed with sweetened alcohol and nightstand candles it’s the magic beans to coax any chick into talking though their special problems, which is a precursor to revelations of her tender needs for sexual healing. The “let-me-hold-you, it’s-OK” bait and switch into a one-nighter of ground and pound requires very little moxy using this ephemeral accompaniment of Feist’s screeching heartbenders. Four and a half Bingos.
I’ve taken to watching subtitled Japanese TV shows my wife buys from Malaysia. “Around 40” was a funny romantic comedy. I like them because the subtitles are good. The translations are helpful because there just aren’t always literal equivalents of some phrases or expressions. OK, I’m a nerd. I haven’t seen many recent movies that really impressed me. Cinemax has a new one every week, and half the time I don’t bother. Like last night – killer vines?
As far as CDs go, the most recent thing I’ve bought was Oral Fixation by Shakira because I like the songs I heard at the gym. I know it’s not new, but I heard another one I really liked, and looked for the CD. Good news, it’s being reissued. Bad news, the video is almost ten years old. You Won’t Forget Me by La Bouche. I mostly like older music because I am older, but I refuse to turn into a fogey who hates new stuff, so recommend away.
John From Cincinnati. I’m telling ya, it’s the best damned thing I’ve ever seen on TV. I was crushed when they canceled it and kept the fucking Conchords.
For DVDs, if you haven’t seen Kung-fu Panda, I would suggest that. Otherwise I would suggest Iron Man and The Dark Knight, with Wall-E behind the other three just a little bit but still good.
The latest Metallica album is pretty good, too, and almost makes me forget St. Anger. I haven’t listened to the new AC/DC album yet, but that and the Metallica CD are all the music I bought this year.
Yea for the Metallica album – I think it’s pretty darn good.
I don’t know if I have any other “new” albums. 10,000 days, by Tool, is a few years old but it’s my favorite new acquisition. QOTSA put out a new album – but that was prolly last year too.
For DVDs, I’m going to nominate “Dark Knight” even though I haven’t seen it yet. I. just. know.
Anyone with rival siblings, semi-unresolved dad issues, and family road trips gone off rail is gonna chuckle through The Darjeeling Limited.
Yeah, it came out at the end of 2007, but the dvd came out this year.
A restored, redone Criterion version of Dreyer’s 1932 Vampyr just came out, as creepy a mindfuck of a movie ever made.
Dark Knight I just saw last week. Heath Ledger deserves whatever acting Hall of Fame awards there might be, in memoriam. That was fucking brilliant acting.
Don’t expect to be blown away by Christian Bale, though. He’s hardly there. Not his fault; it’s basically Heath Ledger’s movie.
Wall-E was just gorgeously done.
Wanted sucked hairy gorilla balls. Motion picture award for worst movie physics. You can make a bullet travel in a circle, just by wanting it to!
Best DVD (well, set of DVDs): John Adams. While I have some quibbles with the historical inaccuracies, overall it was great. Fine acting all around.

Leave it to thor to chime in with the Pretentious Musical Poseur of the Month.
One Two Three Four
Tell me that you love me more
Sleepless long nights
That is what my youth was for
Old teenage hopes are alive at your door
Left you with nothing but they want some more
Oh,oh,oh,you’re changing your heart
Oh,oh,oh,You know who you are
Sweetheart bitterheart now I can tell you apart
Cosy and cold, put the horse before the cart
Those teenage hopes who have tears in their eyes
Too scared to own up to one little lie
[I challenge you to disprove my proffer. Admit it, you.need.some.bad.]
One Two Three Four
Yeah, I’ve heard the song, thor. It sucks.
Next.
you.need.some.bad.
I’m married, thor. I don’t have to beg her, “coax” her, or get her drunk first.
Whatever works for you, though, I guess.
Tis the season to give. In her honor I shall donate.
oh. I buy groceries to that song all the time. You can see people humming and singing. I don’t sing I just watch though.
Jack Johnson’s Banana Pancakes also works like flute music on the cobras.
Is there a charity for people who’ve never had sex that didn’t involve a financial quid pro quo, either explicit or implicit?
‘Cause I’m pretty sure that’s the case with you, thorboi.
Republican National Committee?

I heard Shakira is playing an Obama’s inauguration. Hot tamales, that flat belly woman can grind a tune!
I don’t usually buy CDs these days, unless the album has passed the test of time.
For casual, throwaway music I’d rather just buy the MP3 from Amazon or the AAC from Amazon.
Don’t look, happy.
Buy music on-line? How’s that work?
The first step, thor, is to decide that you’re not a thief.
shakira got her degree … was it this year? Yay Shakira I think. She went to class like a normal person. Shakira is good people, probably.
I haven’t bought any “new” music on CD this year … but I’m loving Amaze.fm, a new site for emerging, original artists, launched earlier this year.

” Wall-E ” came out this year, I think. Freakin’ incredible.

Kung Fu Panda seconded.

I haven’t seen Kung Fu Panda (but will now, thanks for the rec). The other three are all pretty good.

I’ll second Iron Man. it seems I have seen more than one movie in a theater this year.
