Malkin, writing at NRO:
Hollywood savaged Palin. Journalists mocked her. Liberal blogs slimed her. Opponents cursed her; Photoshopped her; hacked her e-mail; hanged her in effigy,; called her bigot, Bible-thumper, and bimbo; and attacked her husband and children. But nothing Palin endured during the election season compares to the treatment she’s receiving from these backstabbing blabbermouths who worked on the same campaign she poured herself into over the last three months.
Sarah Palin worked her heart out. She energized tens of thousands to come out when they would have otherwise stayed home. She touched countless families. I didn’t agree with everything she said on the campaign trail. But she vigorously defended the Second Amendment and the sanctity of life more eloquently in practice than any of the educated conservative aristocracy. And she did it all with a tirelessness and an infectious optimism that defied the shameless, bottomless attempts by elites in both parties to bring her and her family down.
Liberty needs a virtuous people to survive; self-governance requires virtuous leaders. “Knowledgeability†is a necessary trait in political life, but it is not sufficient. The elitist critics of Palin, so blindly enamored of Barack Obama’s ability to hold forth for hours on theologian Reinhold Niebuhr, ignored the Founding Fathers’ counsel: Character counts. In times of adversity and crisis, it counts more than IQ points, instant trivia recall and bloviation skills.
“The most important thing I have learned, from my parents, from teachers, from my faith, from many good people I have been blessed to know, and from the lives of people whose stories we have included in this book,†John McCain wrote in Character Is Destiny, “is to want what they had, integrity, and to feel the sting of my conscience when I have risked it for some selfish reason.â€Â
John McCain not only failed to make that message stick with the electorate, he apparently couldn’t persuade his own staff to heed his advice and practice what he preached.
At some point, it’s going to become obvious to McCain that he was not the choice of just about anyone, and that he owes to Sarah Palin the fact that history won’t mention him in the same breath as Walter Mondale.
But then, maybe he’s already realized this — and that wound to his outsized ego is precisely the reason why he is standing by silently as anonymous campaign staffers, cowards each and every one, continue trying to savage Sarah Palin — ridiculously — in the press.
I suspect that Palin didn’t much like being sequestered away during a few crucial weeks of the campaign and made her point of view known.
She was correct, too — and this probably rankles these anonymous, likely well-educated, behind-the-scenes “brains of the campaign” to no end: pawning a snowbilly off on the country would have been okay, a brilliant stroke of demographic politicking on their part; but how dare the little trailer tramp presume to speak back!
As everyone here knows, I was never any great fan of McCain’s.
Sadly, he is doing nothing to prove me wrong.
In Counterstrike, the corret term is “team-killing fucktard”.
“correct”
I think we’ve not seen the last of Palin. Although I probably can’t agree with every position she takes…does the right really need such strict heterodoxy? I hope to God not.
She better represents me than any of the mainstream politicians has in a long time. You go girl!
McCain is not very heroic I think. Looks like that earlier stuff was a fluke. What a craven asshole, really.
Me, I expect McCain still hasn’t awakened from the his post-concession-speech nap.
I feel dirty I voted for him.
I impaled her on a whale rib and squeezed her tits. Where’s the love?
Free gas, thor.
Get on it, bitch.

She’s already been tapped to campaign for Saxby’s senate seat, which is in jeopardy. Funny, there was no mention of McCain going to Georgia to rally the troops.
Radio interview from Wed. with Palin on the Bob and Mark show in Alaska. Pulled from mare in Ace’s comments. Listening now.
I still can’t believe that the GOP nominated this guy. Closed primaries, my friends. Closed primaties.
Am I crazy to think that McCain never really wanted to win this thing anyway? If he had won, that would be OK with him; but since he lost, he’s giving the middle finger to the Republican Party, who didn’t appreciate him in 2000 or 2004. After all, he still has his Senate seat, and will probably still get invited on the Sunday political talk shows. I dunno. Water under the bridge.
Michelle Malkin has McCain derangement syndrome. She simply has not allowed herself to see anything good from the man. Throughout the campaign she piled it on and piled it on, turning off potential voters and effectively helping the Obama campaign. Hauling out his book and and trying to hold him personally responsible for the classless actions of the proven loser idiots who ran his sub-par campaign is just another smarmy attempt to trash him personally.
His career is over… let it go.
Marverick McCain indeed.
Geez Bill,
the guy jumped out of his plane on the Forestall and saved a bunch of guys from burning. You think maybe his reputation could survive telling the campaign workers that lost it for him to shut their yaps and show a little class.
Maybe it’s early onset.
h/t nishi
No thanks, Bill.
He should be out putting a stop to this. Blaming Malkin doesn’t speak to McCain’s silence.
And now we’re left with Stuttermonkey McBacktrackerontaxes. Great.
I’m sorry we couldn’t drag his hide across the finish line, thought it’s true. O had to be that bad to make me want to. Failure to elect McCain has everything to do with his own weakness as candidate and message-sender, though. And that he would be silent when his own aides are sticking their sleestak claws into Palin… let’s just say that silence doesn’t add to his glory.
It’s kind of “yesterday” but I did throw up an unsophisticated vid about Palin-shredding I hope you’ll look at. At end you see what Palin bashers get for their trouble. It;s a work in progress really. Suggestions welcomed.
Sleestak?
Wow, right into the flesh of her face with the sleestakers! Snowmachiners are backing over her, moose are nibbling out her eyes, snow bunnies are pissing on her toes, bald eagles are swooping down and carrying away her children!
Ohnoes.
Free gas, thor. Get on it, bitch.
MDS? I don’t think so. Maverick got more support than he deserved. That usually goes both ways. I respect his military service. That’s all.
McCain is willing to trash any rights to satisfy his feelings. He was always an unreliable political ally. It’s ironic that the lying Obama beat him in part because of campaign finance reform.
Bill G – McCain was so quick and so vocal about being courteous and respectful to his fellow Senate colleague Obama, especially when it wasn’t deserved, or reciprocated, yet now he is suddenly tongue tied and unable to stand up for Governor Palin? I think he has been slithering over to the Senate Lounge to solidify his position with those “across the aisle” as their very own infiltrator in the GOP caucus, and supervising the torture of Palin fits neatly into that old school Senate song he has sung so many years.
McCain for president? Granholm to fix the nation’s economy? An idiot gets elected. Is this a joke? You’re joking, right?
The here-reinforced myth of Obamomniscience is more baseless than the “Africa’s a cont’nent, y’all?” story.
And the particular style of reinforcement Malkin accidentally uses here is the strongest. Concessions made in passing are permanent.
A restatement of a jacket blurb doesn’t last for hours. I read the quote. It was a shitty bluff. A couple “Obama and Niebuhr Colon Blah Blah” pieces had come up lately, because he’d been echoing some of Niebuhr’s by-no-means-idiosyncratic rhetoric.
From Brooks:
That ain’t shit. And none of it is about Niebuhr. It’s about Obama.
But he started with this:
End of Niebuhr exegesis.
That’s how the trick works. He gratifies an expectation for a moment, and you imagine the hours.
Look up lefty Christians’ reaction to the quote — and it is the only quote. Fooled, to a man, because they need to be.
You don’t need to be.
Quit President Elect-pokin’ you Negro-titty-twistin’ hick.
If he didn’t memorize them, he can’t put 3 fucking words together in a row.
David Palmer could.

2 years. Tick-tock, tick-tock.
Sadly, he is doing nothing to prove me wrong.

Well, he is the person who is more at ease with attacking his own party. Is there anyone here who wasn’t holding his nose at the thought of voting for McCain? Palin was the only thing that made the bitter pill go down.
Two years until your Redumblican head hits the curb again. Braining your ass, I can hardly wait.
Free gas, thor. Get on it, bitch.
You claimed to be in grad school, didn’t you? What are you planning to do for your annual hundred hours of mandatory “volunteer” community service?

I don’t see a “trust fund leech” exception in there, do you?
Get busy, bitch.
Palin will land on her feet, no doubt.
1,784 hours till your shtick is so 2008, Thor. Better get some new writers.
Paul A, I like the “bitter pill” reference. I’m going to call her “Sugar” from now on, as in “a spoonful of…”
Thor and his ilk are about to learn a harsh lesson on the distinction between criticism and performance.
It’s show time, bitches!
After landing on her head that often, yeah, the math’s on her side.
“Comment by Jeff G.:
No thanks, Bill. He should be out putting a stop to this.”
Supposedly we are all too old at this point to be giving and receiving “time outs”… again, supposedly.
“Blaming Malkin doesn’t speak to McCain’s silence.”
Blaming McCain for the statements of people who no longer work for him is just the perfect ending to this fiasco. (Where the only thing stupider than being called a racist on the left for opposing Obama was being called a “RINO” on the right for doing the same thing.) Fine… I guess he wont have your vote in 2012. We are seeing the end of a good man who was a true patriot who also happened to have had some bad ideas.
Somewhat ironic that those who complain about kicking someone when they are down have done the same thing through out his campaign.
Blaming McCain for the statements of people who no longer work for him
Does McCain have laryngitis? Is something preventing him from making a public statement disavowing these douchebags?
McCain is not ever going to be president ever. Proper. All he had to do was outpoll a dirty socialist. Fail. He can go away now and give speeches to rotary clubs about how he used to be heroic.
I kinda wonder if there is an understanding between McCain and Palin, allowing this nonsense to go on.
You gotta admit, it does kind of be-clown the 52-48’ers.
On Obamas mandatory service…
It shows this IS a racist nation. I mean, we had to elect a black man to revive slavery.
Manchurian candidate indeed…
I feel dirty I voted for him.
No, Happy you voted for Palin, and against the socialist, as did many more of us.
Here’s some unfiltered Palin. A radio interview in Alaska the day after her return.
She swam with the sharks, survived and learned a lot, I think. Like how not to run a campaign.
The big irony is that Reinhold Neibhur became one of the harshest critics of reactionary pacifism. I don’t see how that jives with the “Not in our Name” crowd.
McCain was inarguably an American hero. He didn’t sustain that status and has now gone back to being one of the Senate club where is is more impertant to reach across the ailse than stand for your constituents.
Sarah has been relegated to the (hopefully temporary) dustbin of history, because ahe was a real person, not a Washington persona, thus really dangerous to the establsihed order of our betters.
Spellcheck is now on!
McCain was inarguably an American hero. He didn’t sustain that status and has now gone back to being one of the Senate club where it is more important to reach across the aisle than stand on principles for your constituents.
Sarah has been relegated to the (hopefully temporary) dustbin of history, because ahe was a real person, not a Washington persona, thus really dangerous to the established order of our betters.
The treatment of Sarah Palin has got to be — got to be — in some ways a warning to normal folks who might otherwise have been inspired to get involved with politics for the same reasons she did.
I don’t think it’s going to have the intended effect.
scattered thoughts:
McCain’s record on free trade was outstanding; while Obama’s record on protectionism was outstanding.
McCain supported the house Republicans in the bailout fiasco.
I disagree with McCain-Feingold, but neither Bush nor the Supreme Court did.
One problem with calling people out, is that to do so, with today’s media, is to remind everyone about what your calling them out for. Meaning the press gets another round of saying McCain said it’s not true that Palin doesn’t know where Africa is.
Plus, it makes Palin look weak. She does not need a protector.
McCain’s honor has kept Joe Lieberman’s friendship, and that can be important for the Senate battles to come.
There are more strategies in the world than scorched earth…
I voted for Palin as a vote for the future of the values I hold in my “bitter clinging” hands.
I’ve lived a few miles down the road from Saracuda for a long time- she can do the queen of mean like nobody else- if you cross her, she’ll shoot-you-and-piss-in-the-bullethole kind of vindictive. She is like some sort of estrogen fueled Terminator; I almost feel sorry for those fools trying to kneecap her.
I hid her kneecaps in Africa just so she’d never find ’em.
Tee-Hor: You actually believe the MSN?
Of all the people who crossed the political stage during the last two years Sarah Palin and Mitt Romney are the only ones who seemed to exhibit any real class. Sarah may not have had all the immediate answers but certainly showcased more quality of character than the rest and actually seems brighter than her sanctimonious and effete critics on both the left and the right.
And speaking of a lack of class, absence of character and possession of any other redeeming quality, that brings up thor. How much longer are you going to make all of us suffer that miserable prick?
The last question is for you Jeff.
I am so disappointed in McCain over this, I could cry. I’m probably one of the few people in the entire world who genuinely liked him and thought he would prove the base wrong. I thought he did that by picking Palin.
I never knew how traitorous the RINO establishment was until this election. I also didn’t know how totally they were running McCain’s campaign. Their belittling of Palin even now after the election is over is beyond sickening.
They had their chance, they blew it, and their time is ended. They believed the MSM/academic lies about their own constituency and they truly don’t represent anyone anymore.
McCain needs to be a man and come out and shut this shit down. He needs to renounce all these absurd claims as false, and out whoever is doing the smearing…
Palin has a future in national politics, and to allow this to go on unfettered for days, like that chinese water torture Couric interview, is not honorable.
I respect McCain for his service, but the regard I have accumulated for him that allowed me to back him during this last election is diminishing exponentially…
A bit OT, but I can’t help but wonder if Patterico considers a gratuitous snark at Nancy Reagan by the President-Elect in his first grandiose news conference to be evidence of a “decent man?”
And since the snark had to do with contacting the dead, didn’t the Senator’s grandmother die just last Monday? You would think a “decent man” wouldn’t be making jokes about the deceased at this time.
“At some point, it’s going to become obvious to McCain that he was not the choice of just about anyone, and that he owes to Sarah Palin the fact that history won’t mention him in the same breath as Walter Mondale.”
Has there been polling to show us whether Palin drew in more people than she drove away? I’ve heard anecdotes of both.
I don’t see what was “repellant” in the most literal sense of the word about Palin. I have a feeling that those so-called “independents” were repelled by the -R behind her name.
Has there been polling to show us whether Palin drew in more people than she drove away?

69% of GOP Voters Say Palin Helped McCain
Meya, you didn’t notice a change in the McCain campaign from the minute Palin was announced?
Do you really think McCain would have got 57 million votes if he had picked Huckabee?
meya, fuck you!
regards,
OUTLAW
Sarah will always be my VPILF. And, most likely, the only one.
oh yeah, and thor,
mine takes premium.
thanks.
I also noticed it falter the minute we started hearing about and from her.
Translation: you’re clinically insane.
Now, where’s my free gas, bitch?
The only gas thor (stop using that name beeyotch!) knows about is the stuff he’s huffing to get that feeling of euphoria he needs to get by, being the pussball he is. Although in his case, the feeling of euphoria is probably just a feeling of bare adequacy…
Meya, it is more than an anecdote to look at the party base who had all but declared that they WEREN’T going to vote for McCain UNTIL he announced her pick. Most of us here who voted fro him didn’t do so because of McCain, but because of Palin.
“Meya, it is more than an anecdote to look at the party base who had all but declared that they WEREN’T going to vote for McCain UNTIL he announced her pick”
Gallup shows the race tied as the conventions started. But I’ve already been given stats that show many mccain voters liking her. Not necessarily voting because of her, but liking her pick. But there was an effect in the other direction, and I’m curious to know which is larger.
You understand what i’m curious about, right?
You understand what i’m curious about, right?
I’m curious about when I’m going to get my free gas, bitch.
Meya, you do understand 68% is larger than 20%, right?
I’m also curious when meya and her fellow zombies are going to realize that the election is over.
The time for criticism is past. It’s now time to perform.
It’s showtime, meya.
Free gas, bitch. Get busy.
“Meya, you do understand 68% is larger than 20%, right?”
If they’re percents of the same thing, yes. That also affects their relevance to answering the question. It doesn’t answer the question to tell me how GOP voters felt about it, as the linked study shows. We also need to know how dem voters felt. Or even better, how it changed people’s minds.
We also need to know how dem voters felt.
No, we don’t.
The election is over. Palin is irrelevant.
You won. Time to perform.
Get busy on that free gas, bitch.
Seriously, meya, do you think you can get through the next two years yammering about Palin?
You need to start worrying about how your Lord and Savior is going to deliver on all those mutually-exclusive promises he made (or at least implied).
Free gas, bitch. The PEOPLE DEMAND IT!
McCain is irrelevant too. Pompous mavericky piece of shit loser. So long and thanks for all the dirty socialisms, formerly heroic cocksucker.
McCain is irrelevant too.
Yes, he is. Although he does need to call his people out.
Right now, I want to know when I’m going to get my free gas.
“No, we don’t.”
Of course, thats assuming we’re curious about things like the Palin effect. We could always just be uncurious nitwits.
So I did find this. Which does show some sort of negative palin effect, but not much specificity:
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/11/03/opinion/polls/main4566821.shtml
“There is evidence that Palin’s presence on the Republican ticket has hurt McCain with some voters. Fourteen percent of Obama’s supporters say they once supported McCain, and the top reason given for their switch was McCain’s selection of Palin as his running mate.”
“You need to start worrying about how your Lord and Savior is going to deliver on all those mutually-exclusive promises he made (or at least implied).”
The worry and bitching seems to be coming from you mostly. I’m not worried at all.
i think this is McCain’s attempt to curry favor with the Messiah’s people. He never liked Palin (according to Coulter he wanted Lieberman, which says volumes) so he lets his staff trash her, which is what the left wants to do. I’ve already heard some bullshit about how McCain’s supposed to be the liason now in the senate between the repubs and demos.
The interesting thing was how talk radio changed after the election in terms of McCain- I gave Beck, Limbaugh and Hannity credit for getting on the bandwagon and not trashing McCain before the election, even though he was clearly not the right choice as a conservative candidate. Now, however, they are saying what they feel and its all very similar to how I’m feeling. Palin was a a good choice b/c it energized people who wouldn’t have showed up on election day without her on the ticket. I know my very conservative parents were not going to vote until Palin was on the ticket, b/c they didn’t feel like McCain really represented republicans/conservatives. Palin’s entire life is a testament to her conservative values.
*The time for criticism is past. It’s now time to perform.*
I’m betting the farm on performance anxiety. Plus, I’m a market watcher and I know exactly why the Dows tanking. Obama is going to tax the fuck out of corporations and raise taxes on investments- he might as well give wall street a gutshot and watch it bleed out. The money people are not stupid- in fact, alot of times they are alot more prescient then the pundits. As the economy goes, so does the country. I Hope its not a permanent issue- as much as I’d love to see Obama crash and burn, I have too much invested in this country (both patriotically and financially) to wish for even 4 years of failures and hard times.
I’m still /boggled that a congress with a majority of dems with a 10% approval rating somehow managed to add seats. Boggled.
“I’m still /boggled that a congress with a majority of dems with a 10% approval rating somehow managed to add seats. Boggled.”
IIRC, the generic congressional dem was polling better than the generic congressional republican. Disapproval with congress isn’t just with who’s in the majority, but with all the shit that happens there.
Of course, thats assuming we’re curious about things like the Palin effect.
Or assuming that we’re dullwitted leftoids who have just realized that they’re going to be expected to do something other than screeching now, and are scared shitless at the prospect.
Free gas, bitch.
Get on it. Pronto.
By the way, meya: we don’t believe anything that CBS “news” says. Every word out of their mouths is a lie, including “and” and “the”.
Palin responds.
Bucking to suck the gas from my ass? No thanks, Maverick.
Sarah Palin’s Wasilla hayseeds.
How’s that gas coming along, thor?
Are you planning to pick up trash or scrub bus station restrooms for your “volunteer” work?
Once they’ve been TrollHammered™ I have no idea which troll is posting, and at this point I really don’t care. So, free gas, bitches!
OUTLAW!
Thor, after January 20th, what are you going to talk about?
I did not vote for McCain – I voted for Palin.
You know what else is funny, thor? Those “messin’ with sasquatch” commercials!
Man that shit cracks my ass up.
I looked this morning, and there’s STILL no rocket car in my driveway.
Bill Grant – Your attempt to avoid Jeff’s point by equating McCain’s showing loyalty and decency to a person who worked heroically on his behalf to giving a “timeout” is puerile. Besides, Maverick sure as hell was comfortable giving “timeouts” to other Republicans when it suited his bloated moral vanity.
Go suck balls.
“likely well-educated”
Of course, one would have to evaluate the education system in general to assign such a lofty adjective to the McCain staffers. They seem, rather, to be well-educated in name only.
So they can add “weino” on top of their “rino” credits on their worthless staffer resumes and pray that they get another job in their lifetimes. But I bet the street sweeper machine gets more out of same resumes than they do.
Meya —
I heard either Rove or Barone suggesting that Palin was worth a net 4-6 points for McCain. The link is likely out there somewhere.
Malkin and McCain didn’t campaign together.
There’s a distinction in there, I think.

It’s our first weekend under dirty socialist skies. Robert Reich was on that stage behind his new president Baracky and my mayor Henry Varrgaraehaposa was too. Robert Reich works for NPR. He’ll be their man on the inside I guess. They sure did work hard for it.
That reminded me of Baracky but only after I saw him on stage with the marxist midget. They hate us, those people on that stage. They will try and make us better gently gently, but failing that, Patterico’s president will bare his dirty socialist hyena teeth and the fur will fly cause they’ll get more and more frantic. Like a kid throwing a tantrum you just have to keep saying no to these ones I think. I’m really glad Mr. Goldstein is still around.
Remember when Dick Durbin and Ted Kennedy were saying that our soldiers were running rape rooms and comparing them to Pol Pot’s killers and Stalin’s thugs?
John McCain didn’t go after them nor did he lift a finger to defend the honor of our soldiers.
I’m not surprised that he’s letting his yappy lap dogs nip at Palin’s ankles either.
This John McCain of which you speak is so last week, Jimmie. McCain is dustbin of history now but McCainism not quite yet. Arlen tends to get tumors though.
John McCain sits in his favorite house, he sits very quiet and still. But these days I’m afraid he’s not even sure that his name is John McCain.
thor-a-zine. less excuses, more fuel. I don’t care if you got to suck it up the hose like your boyfriend’s lovepump, just get me the free gas, bitch.
McCain was an officer, dammit.
A good officer does NOT allow people to go around him to shit on one of his subordinates… even if it’s other subordinates.
Meya… funny. I hadn’t actually heard squat from the McCain campaign before he picked Palin.
But hey, don’t blame me, I voted for Romney…
McCain is fast turning himself into a scum-bucket. Every minute that passes he moves further toward irredeemability.
He’ll be on Leno on Veteran’s Day to remind everybody he’s a big fat hero. Yay.
McCain’s wounded ego
Remember when Dick Durbin and Ted Kennedy were saying that our soldiers were running rape rooms and comparing them to Pol Pot’s killers and Stalin’s thugs?
John McCain didn’t go after them nor did he lift a finger to defend the honor of our soldiers.
He also sided with John Kerry and blasted the Swift Boat Veterans.
Shit.

It’s over. Screw em.McCain is history and history can have him. Time to get radical on the dems.
It’s time to get radical with the Republicans too. The RINO’s gotta go.

I must admit I would give her a ride as long as I didn’t have to hear that screechy assed voice. She cut her own throat and her handlers tryed to keep her from going self destruct but she went MAVERIC and ROGUE to their dismay. I can see why they were so frustrated with her. That still leaves us with just anecdotes and declarations. Too bad the one piece of data I did find was from a source that can just be waved away.
