Now that SCOTUS has shot down Repubs for lacking standing to sue over voter fraud in Ohio, efforts such as this one are increasingly likely.
Cheat first, let it get sorted out later, is the strategy, it seems — because no one will force the recall of an elected President. At least, that’s the underlying assumption. And the ends, as we know, justify the means.
Of course, the added long-term bonus of such a gambit is to undermine our faith in the electoral system — effectively disrupting the mechanism for running a democratic republic from within.
But to many on the “progressive” left, that is a feature, not a bug. Once they are in power, they’ll find ways to “fix” these problems, bet on it — and their fixes will be only blushingly Constitutional.
God Bless American ingenuity!

because no one will force the recall of an elected President.
They might want to check with the Nixon administration on that one.
Only one of the political parties operates with any discernable honor in the elective process. “For the good of the country” would never cross any Democrat’s lips, otherwise the whole “find a means of counting that ensures we win” kerfuffle wouldn’t have happened in Florida in 2000. And the term “hanging chad” would have never achieved it’s modern meaning – it would have only stood for what happened to a horsethief named Chad. (as opposed to a horsethief named AlGore…)
The truly disenfranchised are those of us who have our votes canceled out by some dead guy. Nobody seems to care much about that.
“For the good of the country†would never cross any Democrat’s lips,” Because their constituents, i.e. the Ayers bunch, would be up in arms if it did.
Prediction: if the election is close, McCain and co. will fight it out in the courts. Although not successful this time, the above sets the stage for another battle for the White House decided by the courts. A good hedge strategy on the GOP side.
Then again, what do I know? I’m just a pajama blogger.
Darn! When I read that SCOTUS ruling I thought…WTF?!
But then I realized that all this means is ACORN’s opponents will need to play a two-act game, just like ACORN plans to.
The first step in the campaign to check ACORN is going forward as planned. It’s goal is to paint a big fat target on ACORN’s ass. The POTUS slap-down, to the degree that is publicized, is an expected assist in this first effort.
The second act comes after the election: it is where we pin the tail on the donkey. When the election is contested by Obama (not if, having pried open the jaws of the “count-every-vote” bear trap and set the trigger, the Progs don’t have the discipline to not spring it) and when voter fraud is indicated, the courts will then see “sufficient standing” to hear the case.
Long story short, after looking at the POTUS ruling from another angle, I wasn’t so concerned.
Saul Alinsky success story. The morality of America has been under assault for decades. Deviancy has been normalized, thuggery is celebrated, lawlessness is chic, communism is the latest fad, worship of a demagogue is the new drug. Obama is counting on the numbness of America’s conscience to let him slither into The White House, and bring all his socialist cronies with him. Unfortunately for Mr. Obama, there are millions of Americans who have sworn at one time or another to defend THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AGAINST ALL ENEMIES, FOREIGN AND DOMESTIC. Most of us who have, take that oath as a blank check written for THE CONSTITUTION, up to and including our lives and fortunes. We will not stand idly by and watch communists bury democracy.
Or, I mean…what Roman said.
Not related at all, ‘cept maybe in a dogwhistle sort of way
A priori, our electoral system only works properly if people believe in its and, therefore, utilize ethics when participating in it…
It would seem that in the internet era, voter fraud could be reduced to almost zero, while assuring that no one is disenfranchised; but that supposes that folks like Ms. Brunner in Ohio are actually interested both upholding the statewide rights of the entire electorate and preventing fraudulent votes. Unfortunately it seems like Ms. Brunner is only interested in a Democrat victory, or so it seems…
What’s fascinating to me is the number of seemingly educated, college graduates, that are encouraging fraudulent registration, and presumably voting, as well as engaging in it themselves…
I am no naif. I understand that there is an tremendously high percentage of left-ish professors in modern academia; especially among the social sciences and humanities faculties. But at my school, UM College Park Clark school of engineering, in both the graduate and undergraduate programs, our faculty were required to insert an appreciable amount ethics discussion into each course. And, we were assured that it was a university wide requirement, and not just to ensure that we cared more about saving money than in safe constructions…
While ballot box stuffing is not a new phenomenon, I think we all know that if it were the RethugliKKKans benefitting from this, that there would be serious Outrage! in all the usual places and special prosecuters appointed…
This surrender of ethics, such that the end justifies the means, is an outgrowth of the secular progressive tenets of our public education system. It’s both the reason that the MSM sees nothing wrong with Bill Ayers and the behaviour of those Ohio campaign workers as reported on in the palestra piece.
The Obama campaign lawyer who justifies it, spinning some crap line about “who, really, is a permanent resident?”, takes the cake. It’s folks like him that cause unrest.
Of course, the added long-term bonus of such a gambit is to undermine our faith in the electoral system  effectively disrupting the mechanism for running a democratic republic from within.
But to many on the “progressive†left, that is a feature, not a bug. Once they are in power, they’ll find ways to “fix†these problems, bet on it  and their fixes will be only blushingly Constitutional.
The founding fathers agreed with this sentiment, the real fight will be to move back in the original direction rather than allow the idiots that created the problem use it to their advantage. This might actually be a grand opportunity for smart people to act that way.
I live in Northeast Washington State and we saw this scenario play out in the 2004 gubernatorial election. I expect that we will see it on a national level in this election.
If Ohio goes to Obama for any less than 200K votes, then those electoral votes will belong to McCain. If that tips the election, then Obama will not be POTUS regardless of what his propaganda arm (NYT, WaPo, ABC, etc.) tells everyone.
Instead of being POTUS, Obama will need to spend some time in jail.
I want an all-out-full-court-press to put Bill Ayers & Bernadine Dohrn in jail. For spitting on the sidewalk, jaywalking, fraud, embezzlement. I don’t care for what. Put those felons where they belong. Justice demands they pay for their crimes, not be rewarded with a golden-pass to The Lincoln Bedroom. Nobama. Nobammunism.
Brooks… you live in north eastern Washinton state?
Do they even count votes cast on that side of the Cascades?
Because I’ve heard they are thinking you guys cling to guns and other icky stuff too much to be trusted with something as sacred as a vote
Steve
We in WA state always count the votes from the eastern part of our state. How else would we know how many fatal pends (invalid votes) to count otherwise?
More seriously, no one seems to be talking about the extremely high likelihood that Obama will conduct lawfare if he loses the election. In WA state, repeated recounts with plenty of “discovered” votes gave the election to the Democrat. I am certain that lesson was not lost on Obama. He has shown himself to be an expert at manipulating the law to win elections already.
That is the essence of the leftist’s ideology, it comes from a deeply arrogant, condescending attitude that believes they are smarter and better than anyone who disagrees with them – that anyone who thinks differently isn’t just wrong, but deliberately wicked and hateful. That any problem their policies cause can be easily addressed by their enlightened brilliance, that any evil can be turned around by their incredibly clever speaking ability and the right words. That they’re just better.
