The Devil Went Down To (Atlanta) Georgia

I made the mistake of putting on CNN for a coupla’ minutes (the “Cavuto” show was talkin’ about –*yawn* — tech stocks, I think it was), and now I’m paying for it. Cough cough GAK…!

Observations? Christiane Amanpour is the Devil Incarnate.

For fifteen minutes she hectored Ra’Anan Gissin, Sharon’s Sr. Advisor, trying to get him to admit that Israel’s use of military force is compromising Arafat’s ability to bring about a cease fire — that Israel has systematically destroyed any and all means at Arafat’s disposal to rein in terror by attacking his security forces and destroying the PA infrastructure, etc.

How can Yasser control the terror when he’s being attacked, she wanted to know? Why should he rein in terror when his people are being occupied by a government who won’t treat them as equals? Aren’t the Palestinians at an “unfair advantage militarily” vs. the Israelis (who have an army!), and isn’t the only weapon the Palestinians have to protect themselves against the aggression of Israeli soldiers the suicide bomber deployed as a terror tactic? (I swear, she was only inches away from literally condoning exploding Arabs — so long as the explosions took the lives of bunches of Israelis in the process).

Newsflash, Christiane: Poor Yasser’s only had what? Thirty-eight years to get his shit together?

Of course, to hear Christiane the Devil tell it, the tanks rolled in just as Arafat was turning over a new leaf — just as he was becoming a changed man committed to peace and bunnies and cherubic children skipping barefoot through edenic gardens.

Christiane also interviewed Arafat (she was eminently more respectful to him than she was to Gissin, by the way), but he (heh heh) hung up on her…

  1. Watching CNN is almost as annoying as listening to the profs in the DU Econ Dept – who seem to be (with the exception of Dr. Ho) almost as balanced as CNN.

Arafat must go, and he needed to go a while back. Why didn’t he? Oh yeah Clinton was a weak intellectual snob who wanted to talk things over instead of encouraging using military force to put down terrorists!

You really need to keep that remote closer at hand, Jeff…

As an aside, in TDI’s interview with “Chairman” Arafat before he hung up on her he referred to himself as “General Yassir Arafat”. Did I miss something? I didn’t know Arafat outranked Ghadafi.

    Myria —

I’m not the only one who’s watched both the GMA and CNN segments…

(I also caught the first 15 minutes of The View, but I left that out, ‘cause I knew Matthew Edgar’d been haunting these comments sections).

Matthew—humanities professors should be judged on an individual basis, just like, oh…melons or avocados…

  4. Oh sure hit me with my own argument (that is the one I use against the ol’ FDA all the time). I wrote that post on five minute blog break from a paper on the economic development of the Georgia Republic or Republic of Georgia whatever the hec it is. Yeah, yeah they need to be judged case by case not in one group sure…but come on are you going to deny that a majority of the humanities profs are rotten melons or bruised avocados? You (and a few others at DU) are really the exception to the norm. And as far as the View, my lovely friend has forced me to sit down and watch that with her on far too many occasions…bad TV at its finest…..well that was a fun 20 seconds, now back to Georgia.

I started to comment, but when it got too long I just decided to blog it.

  6. BTW – if you can find it, Andrea Peyser of the NY Post wrote the best anti – Christiane column I’ve ever seen….shortly after the 11th. I think the phrase she used was “War Slut”
