  1. Ana says:

Psssst. He didn’t have enough teeth to be right.

  2. Spies, Brigands, and Pirates says:

    Thanks, Jeff.

This is the quote I mentioned in the other thread:

“But Barack Obama indicated to me he wanted me with him to help him govern. So every major decision he’ll be making, I’ll be sitting in the room to give my best advice.”

  3. JD says:

Do you trust the LA Times to accurately portray the transcript?

  4. Big Bang Hunter (pumping you up) says:

    – They can “portray” it anyway they like. Change a single damn word and they’ll be called out faster than a whore with measles.

  5. lee says:

Palin: I may not answer the questions that either the moderator or you want to hear, but I’m going to talk straight to the American people

I’m so glad she called Ifill’s hand.

  6. geoffb (JARAIP) says:

On the tailgate thread, dre linked to a Washington Post article about Sarah Palin. I think the end of the piece is nice.

“Palin has said she learned more on the basketball court than in any other arena. It remains to be seen how her athletic, outdoorswoman, post-feminist confidence holds up in the heat of the vice presidential debate.

But her old friends suspect that a part of Palin may actually be looking forward to it.

Says Teeguarden: “The idea of being in awe of people just isn’t in her nature.” Ketchum adds, grinning: “She likes an opponent.”

  7. N. O'Brain says:

    Sarah won, hands, down.

Go look at the headlines list at Lucianne.com

    Always a sure indicator.

  8. Mr. Pink says:

Cue the steady drip drip of anti-Palin AP stories. I want to hear how her sisters-cousins-bestfriend used to be a member of the radical Alaskan Mountain Militia that favors killing all endangered species.

  9. alppuccino says:

There were times when Champ was looking at The Barracuda and it looked like he was thinking “God, she is drop dead gorgeous! BUSH LIED!”

  10. BarrettBrown says:

“Do you trust the LA Times to accurately portray the transcript?”

Do you know who runs the LA Times?

  11. B Moe says:

Dammit! I am going to be in the field all day on the day Barrett goes to bat for the LAT! Life just ain’t fair. Go easy on him Darleen, I really do think the kid means well.

  12. BarrettBrown says:

“I am going to be in the field all day on the day Barrett goes to bat for the LAT!”

I can assure you that I despise the LA Times very much and that you won’t miss anything. At any rate, I’ve already fumbled; the guy I was talking about apparently resigned a few months back. I’ll just slink back to my cave now…

  13. alppuccino says:

I’ve already fumbled; the guy I was talking about apparently resigned a few months back. I’ll just slink back to my cave now…

Major points for admission and self-deprecation. I take back every comment I was going to write about you but was too scared to engage you because I would become your ball of yarn to bat around with your cat paw-like wit. I’ve already said too much. Great. Now I’m sweating.

  14. Mr. Pink says:

I am sure the LATimes is a middle of the road newspaper and not nearly as biased as anyone on Fox News. Oh yeah and Ifill is a totally ethical journalist.

  15. B Moe says:

    What al said, lol.

  16. JimK says:

I like what Geraghty over at the NR says about Biden, those aren’t Lies they’re Hallucinations. He must have been spelunking behing Jeff’s couch.

  17. alppuccino says:

Bill O’Reilly, who raises the buffoon bar every day, re-outs Barney Frank. It’s not what you think. If this catches on, I think Johnny Mac needs to focus on the Frank, Dodd, Raines, Johnson, Obama, Ayers, Rezko, Ahmadinajead, Dracula, Ghengis Kahn, Son of Sam connection.

Once again, O’Reilly is a flaming egomaniac, but in this instance, it was what was called for.

    It’s at Foxnews.com/video.

    I can’t link. I can’t dance.

  18. Pablo says:

Do you know who runs the LA Times?

Do you mean the guy who owns it, Barrett? That would be the guy who’s being sued by the people who write it, if I’m not mistaken.

  19. Pablo says:

He doesn’t necessarily get along with his readers and editors very well. Sam Zell is a meanie, you see. Stupid capitalist.

  20. Pablo says:

Errr…writers and editors. But maybe readers too, particularly dedicated LA Times readers.

  21. BarrettBrown says:

“Do you mean the guy who owns it, Barrett?”

I was referring to a certain editor who has since resigned to spend more time with Rumsfeld’s squash court. I’m all for writers suing publishers, though.

  22. Darleen says:

    BB

the LA Dog Trainer lost most its credibility in 1999 when the wall between advertising and reporting was revealed as breeched, then steadily stomped on any shred of credibility and journalistic ethics in the following years … to study what it tried to do during the Davis recall election is to see what the MSM as a whole is trying to do with this election.

If it disappeared tomorrow, Los Angeles would be better served… and the editors and “writers” have only themselves to blame.

  23. Pablo says:

Ah, you mean publisher, not editor. It’s going to be tough to miss anyone at the LAT, except maybe Ramirez.

  24. Darleen says:

    Pablo

Ramirez was cut from the LAT a few years back… can’t have an icky non-leftist cartoonist onboard regardless of how many Pulitzers he’s won.

  25. ducktrapper says:

While I think Ifill should have recused herself, I don’t know if it was increased scrutiny or what but she was not a bad moderator. Palin did alright but I have to cringe at some of her golly-geeisms. Biden just tells outright lies with a big smiley face. I wonder if anyone noticed?

  26. Darleen says:

I keep hearing this morning that Biden was “gaffe free” and had a “great command of foreign policy”

Funny, I don’t know who “Bosniacs” are and Biden’s recitation of the history of Hizbolleh in Lebanon was on par with his history of FDR talking to the American public on TV in 1929.

  27. SarahW says:

    The ladees are called “Bosniettes”.

(stolen from a commenter at ASHQ)

  28. BarrettBrown says:

“Funny, I don’t know who ‘Bosniacs’ are”

    That *is* funny!

  29. thor says:

Sister Palin has allowed foreign moose from Canada to cross the border into Alaska and Canadian geese into Alaskan airspace. She’s weak on defense, very weak.

  30. PC says:

I just have to shout this somewhere in cyberspace:

WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH KRAUTHAMMER?

I seriously want to punch that guy. ugh.

  31. Mr. Pink says:

Biden might have been gaffe free but he definately wasn’t lie free. I saw with my own two little beady eyes Obama say he would meet with DinnerJacket without pre-conditions. Now this guy is calling my eyes liars. F him.

  32. ThomasD says:

No no, not ‘gaffe free,’ but gaffree (sp?) Which, I think sounds like the arabic word for a warm cup of coffee, or bitch. I’m not sure which.

  33. urthshu says:

    No no, “Bosniards

Sister Palin has allowed foreign moose from Canada to cross the border into Alaska and Canadian geese into Alaskan airspace. She’s weak on defense, very weak.

She’s stronger on defense than Joey Hairplugs!

  35. BarrettBrown says:

“WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH KRAUTHAMMER?”

What’d he do this time? Accuse the anti-Bush crowd of holding the very same views of Arab culture that he held in the ’90s back when it was ideological convenient for him to hold such views? Or did he once again flip-flop between scolding everyone for not accepting the procedures of the judicial branch and criticizing the procedures of the judicial branch with regards to the Terri Schiavo case? If so, he needs new material.

  36. BarrettBrown says:

Okay, I guess I need to be a bit more explicit for Darleen’s benefit. The term Bosniak is a real, live term that describes a particular group of people. Go look it up. Using a real, live term that describes a particular group of people in reference to a real, live group of people does not constitute a gaffe in the real, live world.

  37. SarahW says:

    “Bosnioids”?

  38. urthshu says:

They make medicated pads for those, I think

sometimes I forget why I don’t hang out here that often. Then I remember: oh yeah, the non-stop stupid trolls.

Anyway. I have a huge girl crush on Palin and I’m going door-to-door this weekend. Wish me luck! ;)

  40. Mr. Pink says:

The trolls here are some industrial grade crazy that’s for sure PC.

  41. SarahW says:

BB, somebody tried to tell me that last night – and it was true. But it’s too funny not to mock him. Poor Joe. Sometimes trying to come across like a brainiac has the opposite of the intended effect.

  42. BarrettBrown says:

Wow. You guys are really going to take this little “ZOMG THE TERM BOSNIAC DOES NOT EXIST BECAUSE I AM UNFAMILIAR WITH IT” meme and run with it, aren’t you? And everyone else can watch this unfold in real time! IT IS THE MIRACLE OF BIRTH AND SO UTTERLY BEAUTIFUL!

  43. urthshu says:

Barrett, RE: Bosniacs: Yes, I know. But its still funny in a juvenile sense.

WRT the debate, I guess I was kinda let down that no questions were asked about women’s issues, seeing as how both are connected to that. Also, nothing on guns, which seems to have been slightly contentious an issue during the news cycle.

  44. Mr. Pink says:

BB I have heard the term Bosniac before. To most people it probably is pretty unfamiliar though.

  45. ducktrapper says:

The trouble with using the term “Bosniacs” is that it does not refer to all Bosnians. I’m sure the all wise Joe knew that though. Doncha think? Perhaps he’ll make references to Pollacks next. What a guy!

  46. SarahW says:

Oh come on, BB, get over yourself.

When it popped out of his mouth, at least 80% of the audience said to themselves “Wait, What?”

That’s what you get for showing off.

  47. Mr. Pink says:

All Bosniacs aside I can not believe he lied so blatantly and said O! never said he would meet with Ackmedinijad without preconditions. That was pretty insulting to my intelligence. I have heard O! lie about that one too though so I guess that is the talking point.

  48. Sdferr says:

Biden: When we kicked — along with France, we kicked Hezbollah out of Lebanon, I said and Barack said, “Move NATO forces in there. Fill the vacuum, because if you don’t know — if you don’t, Hezbollah will control it.”

Now what’s happened? Hezbollah is a legitimate part of the government in the country immediately to the north of Israel.

The fact of the matter is, the policy of this administration has been an abject failure.

Does anyone besides me view this as 1) a-historical tripe or what’s normally called a bald-faced lie, and 2) nonsensical from a foreign policy perspective any how, I mean, NATO fer chrissake? Barack Obama called for NATO to go into Lebanon? Reallies? Has Barack looked at NATO’s performance in Afghanistan lately?

  49. urthshu says:

    Barrett:
You know what else is funny? You’re a comedy writer, yet you insist on fact being presented in a comment thread where people tend to just bat crap around and make jokes. Which, of course, tends to kill the jokes. You’re just so contrary, man.

  50. Big Bang Hunter (pumping you up) says:

    – The term is “Bosnians” Brown. Bosniacs? You should get a hack job writing for Warners Bros. dick head.

  51. ducktrapper says:

    Lies? Nyet! Nwance!

  52. BarrettBrown says:

“The trouble with using the term “Bosniacs” is that it does not refer to all Bosnians.”

He wasn’t referring to all Bosnians. He was referring to Bosniaks, after having listed the Serbs and Croats as well. Here’s the quote:

“Look what we did in Bosnia. We took Serbs, Croats and Bosniaks, being told by everyone, I was told by everyone that this would mean that they had been killing each other for a thousand years, it would never work.”

So, again, I’m having trouble finding the gaffe here.

“Barrett, RE: Bosniacs: Yes, I know. But its still funny in a juvenile sense.”

Fair enough; I’m certainly not one to take issue with juvenile humor. Perhaps someone should let Darleen in on the joke, though. It would be the polite thing to do, no?

  53. ducktrapper says:

Well then Barret, he’s just too darn smart for the rest of us. Perhaps he should have alluded to Illyrians just to really score some points on us idiots.

  54. slackjawedyokel says:

    #35 BB:
    “What’d he do this time?”

Basically, Krauthammer said, “Oy. We’re fooked.”
I’m beginning to think that he may be right. I can only hope that McCain is just waiting until after the Bailout Bill is passed to start slamming The One on the lies, damned lies, and damned lying lies that he’s allowed to let slide thus far. Even then, it may be too late to have any effect.

    In which case, Oy.
    We’re fooked.

  55. Big Bang Hunter (pumping you up) says:

    – Yeh, and while you’re at it Barrett, maybe you could drop down Washington way and give old Joey hairplug a few pointers on the Constitution and which branch of government is which. Apparently after 26 years on Capital hill he still gets the men’s and woman’s bathroom confused.

  56. Semanticleo says:

“WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH KRAUTHAMMER?””

He realizes that Palin and cohorts theocratic perogative’s hold Jews in contempt, but have an End-Times philosophy that the Chosen People will accept the inevitable and convert in the nick of time.

He doesn’t like that maxim…………plus he’s Canadian, so he’s got that going for him.

  57. BarrettBrown says:

“The term is “Bosnians” Brown. Bosniacs? You should get a hack job writing for Warners Bros. dick head.”

… and you guys might want to let your resident low-information voter over here in on the joke, too, lest he continue to discredit your whole “Oh we’re just joking” defense with his ignorance.

“You know what else is funny? You’re a comedy writer, yet you insist on fact being presented in a comment thread where people tend to just bat crap around and make jokes.”

Darleen was serious. So is Big Bang Hunter, who, to my understanding, is pumping everyone up. If you want to pretend that these two are actually just joking, that’s certainly your right.

“When it popped out of his mouth, at least 80% of the audience said to themselves “Wait, What?””

So? He was addressing the portion of the country that keeps up on U.S. foreign policy and who consider it their duty to know a thing or two about the military conflicts in which we’ve involved ourselves, not populist nitwits who can’t name any papers they read. Palin is already in the tank for Palin.

  58. Spies, Brigands, and Pirates says:

Funny that he forgot the small (but certainly not inconsequential) group of mixed ancestry who still self-identify as Yugoslavs.

  59. Spies, Brigands, and Pirates says:

    Oh, and Barrett?

Your boy Biden got butt-surfed by Palin last night. Hard.

When even the Daily Kos and Andrew Sullivan admit it, it’s time to hang it up, my friend.

  60. urthshu says:

Not pretending, Barrett, just honestly didn’t see it them as being serious. Fair enough, though.

So: Didja like the debate? Did you want them to address anything that wasn’t asked?

  61. Mr B says:

    urthshu,

I thought the same thing. Yet, the Bosniac bit would have been prime SNL material had Palin said it.

    Just for the laughs!

  62. urthshu says:

    Spies:
Barrett isn’t backing Biden, AFAIK. Also Kos is saying Biden won it.

  63. BarrettBrown says:

“Basically, Krauthammer said, “Oy. We’re fooked.””

Hmmmm. That guy’s hard to predict. He attacks his own party at the strangest times, and defends at even stranger ones.

“He realizes that Palin and cohorts theocratic perogative’s hold Jews in contempt, but have an End-Times philosophy that the Chosen People will accept the inevitable and convert in the nick of time.”

He’s known that for years, though; he didn’t seem to care that Bush likes to show up via telecast at John Hagee’s little D.C. nutfests. I’m assuming he’s just worried that Palin can’t seal the deal. He’s always been a pragmatist at heart, it seems.

  64. ThomasD says:

Biden referring to an ethnic group by a semi obscure term is funny but not particularly serious. Biden, an attorney and 30+ year US Senator, displaying a fundamental misunderstanding of the US Constitution?

The dude needs to spend some time with a Constitutional scholar. Anybody know one that he might be able to spend some time with?

  65. thor says:

Barrett Brown is correct? How can that be? All you need to do is be a conservative name-calling finger-pointing hick and then everything you say trumps! You learn that on the first day of R-Winger 101!

Thanks for your astute clarification, Mr. Brown.

  66. Sdferr says:

…He was addressing the portion of the country that keeps up on U.S. foreign policy and who consider it their duty to know a thing or two about the military conflicts in which we’ve involved ourselves…

So Joe Biden must haz it right! Because he thinks it a duty to stay informed! We did kick Hezbollah out of Lebanon, (oh, with the help of the French of course, mustn’t leave off our thanks to them)! Congratulations to us for a job well done.

  67. urthshu says:

    >>Yet, the Bosniac bit would have been prime SNL material had Palin said it

Yep! Like a zombie invasion with Sarah shootin’ and whoopin’ it up. “More Bosniacs! ‘Memba ta shoot ’em inna head, doggone it!”

  68. Obstreperous Infidel says:

A somewhat instructive thread in that we get to see a person perceived as a troll (Barret) but who, imo, is definitely not and a person who is perceived as a troll (semen) and most definitely is a troll. Barret’s response to Krauthammer (#35) was accurate. Semen’s response (#57)was, per usual, a complete mess and completely irrelevant. I know people don’t like his style, but more BB and less semen would be a good thing, I think. However, this bs brought to us by BB, “not populist nitwits who can’t name any papers they read” needs to be addressed. Do you actually, really think she doesn’t know what papers and/or magaizine she reads? really?

  69. Big Bang Hunter (pumping you up) says:

    – Barrett, the joke is on you. No one said the term is incorrect. It would be like calling native Americans “Americaniacs”. It may not be technically wrong, but everyone would point at you and laugh. Something you’re probably accustomed to asshole.

  70. Spies, Brigands, and Pirates says:

    Barrett isn’t backing Biden, AFAIK.

    Sure, he isn’t.

Also Kos is saying Biden won it.

Hmm… must’ve gone down the memory hole since last night, then.

  71. Mr. Pink says:

“He’s (Kraut) always been a pragmatist at heart, it seems.”

I think he is just preparing for the eventual O! win and trying to remain objective. Kraut has never been a straight party line hack ala. Paul Begala.

  72. Obstreperous Infidel says:

Oh, but then again, BB and his hate of all things Christian/religious rears its ugly head in 64. Oh well.

  73. Spies, Brigands, and Pirates says:

A somewhat instructive thread in that we get to see a person perceived as a troll (Barret)

Barrett isn’t a troll. He’s just not very good at arguing his case, such as it is.

  76. ducktrapper says:

Anyone actually doubt that a Palin/Bosniacs comment would be Tina Fey’s big “ain’t she stoopid” joke on SNL? Barret? Thor? Anyone? These are folks who think there is such a nationality as Palistinian, after all.

  77. Semanticleo says:

  78. Mr. Pink says:

Screw Tina Fey she has taken SNL into irrelavancy. That show hasn’t been funny since before 2000. The fact that Mad TV gets almost comparable ratings should be a clue that something is wrong.

  84. BarrettBrown says:

“So: Didja like the debate? Did you want them to address anything that wasn’t asked?”

Meh. All specifics on how much statism we need and who can best implement it, no discussion of fundamentals. I miss Ross Perot; populist nut or not, he served to raise awareness of how debt is, you know, something that needs to be addressed. And I suppose it’s too much to ask for Barr’s number two to have been invited; he could have taught both VP wannabes a thing or two about folksy charm.

I enjoy watching Biden, even if he has no cogent philosophy other than the amorphous concept of “fairness,” which he seems to think is some very important concept of governance by virtue of it being bandied around by the “folks back in Scranton” or whatever.

  85. ducktrapper says:

Yeah, I don’t know what practical joker told Biden that this was the case. I seem to remember Reagan learning his lesson on that particular excursion, even if no one else did.

  90. Big Bang Hunter (pumping you up) says:

“Did your shirt sleeve catch it all?”

    – I let your mama lick it all up like she always does thor-boy.

I think we can safely put it into “the guy just makes shit up whenever he feels like it” category. Which, y’know, kinda gives me the creeps.

  92. Spies, Brigands, and Pirates says:

I think we can safely put it into “the guy just makes shit up whenever he feels like it”

    Yes, he does.

  93. Obstreperous Infidel says:

Just think what would be said in Palin or McCain said the same thing in regards to Hezbollah and Lebanon. Well, the honest among us do.

  94. thor says:

Another day, another blip up in the polls for Obama, another state McCain’s campaign retreats from.

You can actually feel the creeping McCain retreat here in Florida. Frowny faces all around in the trailer homes up north as cultured SoFlo goes FloBama whoopin’ crazy.

Could McCain have torched his scarce resources so soon?

  95. BarrettBrown says:

“Do you actually, really think she doesn’t know what papers and/or magaizine she reads? really?”

I think that she knows perfectly well that she reads very little and that any honest answer would reveal that she reads absolutely nothing which would provide her with good information on the world around her. There’s an old photo of her with a John Birch pub, though, so she already knows that Eisenhower was a commie stooge, I guess. That may come in handy. But, yeah, I’d be pretty surprised if she was caught reading The Economist or Foreign Affairs or anything like that.

  96. cranky-d says:

    Re: Barr

For good or ill (and I think ill), we are stuck with a two-party system in which both parties have been moving steadily leftward as long as I can remember. I don’t expect this to change any time soon. I don’t like the fact that all third-party candidates get stamped with the “crazy” stamp, but that seems to be the way it is. I blame George Bush.

  97. Spies, Brigands, and Pirates says:

I think that she knows perfectly well that she reads very little

And yet this backward, ignorant, illiterate hillbilly who never reads anything managed to kick the ass of the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in a debate.

    Just lucky, I guess.

  98. Sdferr says:

…old photo of her with a John Birch pub…

Must you be so dishonest Barrett? I mean, come on.

  99. Jeff G. says:

I tend to think Palin is being hamstrung on the credit mess until the bailout is done. The election will turn on whether or not McCain wants to play pretend statesman and stay “collegial,” blaming the mess on “greedy Wall Street” or if he suddenly “learns” that there are lots of factors involved that point back to Dems and, in particular, Barack Obama.

Maybe by that time he’ll discover the guy’s ties to radicalism, too, and fucking broadcast it. Could be waiting till the last election to drop the Ayers bomb. Because I have a feeling most Americans simply aren’t aware of the connections, and that McCain simply must be saving it up for when he thinks it will have the most impact.

As for Krauthammer, I suspect it galls him he has to vote for a statist ticket that is supposedly “conservative.” Also, he resents that Palin gets him all hot in the trousers.

I hope you mean “last debate”, although who knows what Obama has in mind there. :-)

McCain simply must be saving it up for when he thinks it will have the most impact.

That’s my theory. I suspect that McCain is trying to force Obama to spend himself dry, then launch a “surge” tactic in the last week or two before the election.

  103. Jeff G. says:

The Economist had a poll I linked showing the “global electoral landslide” for Barack, Barrett. You can go vote if you want.

As for Krauthammer, I suspect it galls him he has to vote for a statist ticket that is supposedly “conservative.” Also, he resents that Palin gets him all hot in the trousers.

Krauthammer doesn’t wear trousers on the set. The man’s a well-known meat wagging free-baller. Maura Liasson won’t even look to her left.

  109. BarrettBrown says:

“Barrett, the joke is on you. No one said the term is incorrect.”

Wow. You yourself said that it was incorrect when you wrote:

“The term is “Bosnians” Brown. Bosniacs? You should get a hack job writing for Warners Bros. dick head.”

What are you even trying to do here? I say that Biden’s use of the term “Bosniacs” is correct, you chime in with “The term is ‘Bosnians’ Brown.” Then, when you realize that everyone realizes what you failed to realize, which is that Bosniac is indeed the correct term in the case in question, and that the term “Bosnian” refers to something else, you pretend that you never said something that you obviously said, which is that the term “Bosniacs” is incorrect. Like, it’s all right here in the thread for anyone to see.

“And yet this backward, ignorant, illiterate hillbilly who never reads anything managed to kick the ass of the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in a debate.”

  110. Pablo says:

Yeah, I don’t know what practical joker told Biden that this was the case.

What I like though is how Joey knows what Baracky said about Lebanon all those years ago. Priorities, people!

McCain stopped fundraising some time ago, Barrett. He had to, because he decided to take public financing.

Obama, on the other hand, is still busy blowing Bon Jovi and Matt Damon so that the electricity won’t get turned off.

I notice that you failed to address the point.

Looking forward to your next spin/derail attempt.

  125. BarrettBrown says:

“Jeez Bar-rat, you STILL don’t know how to set a link tag?”

No, I don’t. I do know how to point out how hilarious it is that, just a few minutes after accusing me yet again of trying to avoid the point, you claim that McCain isn’t doing any fundraising, then I point out the obvious fact that he is, and then you make fun of me for not knowing how to do little tags on the internets because it’s more convenient than having to address the fact that you have once again made a demonstrably incorrect claim. But I won’t point that out because I don’t want to be mean to someone who is likely to be appointed to some cabinet-level position under President Palin. You’ve certainly got the head for it. Why wasn’t the ignorant, illiterate icebilly slaughtered by the 30-year Senate veteran who chairs the Foreign Relations Committee?

  133. MAJ (P) John says:

Using “Bosniak” correctly (I did a little time in SFOR in 1997 – Sarajevo was terribly sobering) cannot come close to the crazy parallel dimension/alt-history of the US and France (?!) kicking Hezboallah out of Lebanon….and not knowing Article I of the US Constitution very much didn’t help either.

At my most charitable, all I could stretch out was that Sen Biden was confused with the PLO being evacuated lo those many years ago, and the alleged “observer” force that makes sure that the Hezb don’t not shoot too much at Israel…

  134. Pablo says:

I’d like to point out how hilarious Barrett’s comment at 9:53 is.

    – BTW. After I totally gutted your bullshit tome on evolution did you ever write a retraction, or did you just cover your stupid ass with your local homeboys. Just curious.

  136. royf says:

That should have been evident from our little run in with Iran a few years earlier, the one that put Reagan in office.

I totally agree and I feel that was a big mistake on President Reagans part. I wasn’t clear enough on my main point, In that Reagan would have recognized his mistake and taken responsibility for that wrong decision.

BB was implying that Reagan learned the correct lesson in Beirut I disagree and think he would have said that withdrawing from Lebanon was the wrong move at the time.

  137. Pablo says:

Ah, that linky in my #123 doesn’t take kindly to TinyURLing. Here’s a direct link and an alternate.

  138. Spies, Brigands, and Pirates says:

    Classic Barrett in this thread.

    1) Ignore the main point.
    2) Come up with some tortured exegesis of a semantic side issue.
    3) Pretend that 2) was the main issue.

Why wasn’t the ignorant, illiterate icebilly slaughtered by the 30-year Senate veteran who chairs the Foreign Relations Committee?

  139. BarrettBrown says:

“You misread me, Barrett. The dishonesty I am referring to is not your claim that she was reading something from the John Birch society, as you well know.”

Then why did you only quote my assertion that she reads John Birch mags? Maybe you should start quoting the things you actually take issue with instead of waiting for me to read your mind over the internets.

“I also know that she has no connection with the John Birch society.”

Really? You know that? What constitutes a “connection?” Careful, there, old boy – there’s been much talk on this blog about a certain candidate’s connection to certain other people; best to keep your definitions in a row. As for me, I think that subscribing to an organization’s publication and thus giving them money to boot constitutes a connection, but, then, I bear no ill-will towards the English language and don’t feel the need to corrupt it for ideological purposes.

    “And so do you.”

You sure do know a lot about what I think! GET OUT OF MY MIND!!!1!!!11

“Pretending she does “she already knows that Eisenhower was a commie stooge” is asinine. Grow up.”

Okay, that’s a pretty solid plank in the whole John Birch treehouse; I have several of their books. She was reading a John Birch publication in her damned office. If you saw Obama reading “The Daily Worker,” you and everyone else here would be accusing him of ascribing to the majority of the Marxist platform, and you’d probably be right. In fact, you fellows have been tagging Obama as a Marxist for as long as I’ve been reading you. I don’t even know why you’re bothering with this particular tactic.

  140. Spies, Brigands, and Pirates says:

Oh, and Barrett? I’ll stipulate that Biden is actually a 36 year Senate veteran rather than 30. Or, I suppose, technically he’s a 35 year, 11 month, and some odd weeks and days veteran.

So can we just skip that stage of the spin cycle?

    Thanks.

  141. N. O'Brain says:

“Yeah, I don’t know what practical joker told Biden that this was the case. I seem to remember Reagan learning his lesson on that particular excursion, even if no one else did.”

  144. thor says:

Sister Palin is a John Birch nutter? Go figure.

  145. Spies, Brigands, and Pirates says:

So that makes you a Bircher, right?

    Foot, meet bullet.

Why wasn’t the ignorant, illiterate icebilly slaughtered by the 30-year Senate veteran who chairs the Foreign Relations Committee?

  146. happyfeet says:

Governor Palin handled the debate very well and Baracky’s media is very disappointed this morning. But I think for real this incentivizes Nancy to tank the economy even more. That’s not good even if it’s the gayest bailout ever.

  147. BarrettBrown says:

“Why wasn’t the ignorant, illiterate icebilly slaughtered by the 30-year Senate veteran who chairs the Foreign Relations Committee?”

Because she’s a fucking genius and a second Margaret Thatcher. You win.

  148. alppuccino says:

    there’s been much talk on this blog about a certain candidate’s connection to certain other people;

Guilty. It’s possible I exaggerated when I mentioned a connection between Dracula and Obama. That was when I mentioned the connection between Rezko, Ayres, Raines, Johnson, Frank, Dodd, Alinsky, and Obama.

Notice I mention no connection between Biden and Obama.

  149. SarahW says:

Palin was a community organizer for Birchites? (Birchettes? Birchniaks? Birchons?)

She was picked by a “wish he had blown more stuff up” bomber, to funnell big chunks of Bircher bucks money to “education partners”, to teach the little vermins to get us out of the UN?

    Wow.

  150. Big Bang Hunter (pumping you up) says:

“Notice I mention no connection between Biden and Obama”

    – Heh. Yes, its that painfully obvious isn’t it. Talk about the odd couple.

  151. thor says:

No, it is your own mind I expect you to read. Not mine. Stop and think what you are saying. I expect you to know when you are being dishonest. If you can’t be honest with yourself about that, then I don’t know what to think about what you may have to say to anyone else.

After all, you’re a famous researcher here at PW. Didn’t you care to look into how Palin came to be in the photo with the controversial publication? No? That’s odd.

…you fellows have been tagging Obama as a Marxist for as long as I’ve been reading you.

You fellows? I don’t believe I have ever stated that Barack Obama is a marxist. But then, that’s just my memory of what I’ve written here. If you’ld care to find such a passage you might then have some grounds on which to make such a claim. Otherwise, that’s just as hollow as your claims about Palin.

  157. happyfeet says:

  158. Spies, Brigands, and Pirates says:
