Indexicality

From Bob Reed, in the comments to yesterday’s ACORN post:

Here in NYC I just saw a new bumpersticker:

Obama
One Nation
One People

Kinda creeped me out; I wondered why it seemed so familiar…

Poster from 1930’s — from you know where…

Deutschland

Ein Volk
Ein Reich
Ein Fuhrer

I told you all that Axelrod was taking pages from Goebbles playbook…

Plus*

(Incidentally, I don’t think Obama is Hitler. More like a ready-for-Celebrity-Jeopardy version of Hugo Chavez. Stiil, I must say that his campaign and its supporters seems fond of some of the propaganda techniques used by the Nazis. Or maybe Biden is claiming he came up with them all on his own and hasn’t told anybody he’s been “borrowing” again…)

Hail Victory, y’all! The Obamessiah will heal all wounds and wound all heels!

  3. DonkeyKong says:

Right, Obama is Hitler………at this point in the election, why not?

  4. ducktrapper says:

Donkeykong loses for bringing up, ya know who. Godwin’s law! We were just comparing methods and having a laugh.

  5. Jeff G. says:

I don’t think Obama is Hitler. But I must say that his campaign seems fond of some of the (for the time) highly-developed propaganda used by the Nazis.

Cabaret, sure, but a musical anyway.

  8. TmjUtah says:

I don’t see Obama as having the chops to issue orders to open camps.

But he’d be pass an order like that along.

His whole campaign has been on a script, and he’s obviously had zilch to do with braining it out.

“Call me if you need me.” That little gaffe kind of coalesced the above judgement, if anyone was wondering.

What a sad, sorry place our public arena has come, that a fraud like Obama commands such interest.

  9. Mr. Pink says:

“Call me if you need me.”

If McCain had said that it would have led every newspaper and news show for a week. They are too busy in the throws of their collective O!gasms to be objective though.

  10. Eben says:

Lost is the irony that most of his supporters wont say ‘One nation under God’ but wont hesitate to scream ‘One nation under Obama’. Even make a bumper sticker out of it!

  11. happyfeet says:

oh. Hitleresque I think. For reals. Personality cults always need enemies and Baracky couldn’t even name you a foreign one so you can bet they’ll be looking here at home for them. It’s not good.

Seems like we have broken new ground, or did Leni Rienfenstahl moderate high level political debates also?

  13. Salt Lick says:

I don’t know why God allows bad things to happen, but I do believe He has a sense of humor. Why else would we be seeing a Prog campaign adopt these techniques, so soon after the publication of “Liberal Fascism?”

  14. Bod says:

    Maybe Axelrod can’t read.

  15. DonkeyKong says:

Jeff doesnt think Obama is Hitler, he just behaves like a nazi. Thanks for clearing that up.

  17. urthshu says:

I don’t think Baracky is like Hitler or anything that silly. And I don’t think that’s really the nub of the argument, anyway.

What is reminding me of it isn’t him, but his supporters. Who are the ones egging on frogmarching and show trials? Who are the ones singing to the Dear Leader? Who are the ones practicing intimidation on critics and enforcing correct thought? That kind of thing.

  18. ginsocal says:

Well, look: the douchebag has spent his entire life surrounded by radicals, Marxists, communists, and black liberation theologists, which is just a bastardized, racialized aglomeration of the preceeding ideologies. He has NEVER been exposed to any other theory of economics. Were you to tell me all that about any individual, I would not be the least bit surprised that he has fascist tendencies. So far, the campaign he’s “run” has borne this out-attempts to crush free speech, use of government officials to intimidate opponents, and the on-going voter fraud.

When this whole wretched mess explodes, we can point to the abject participation of the MSM as the root causse. All they have to be is impartial, but their corrupt and thoroughly indoctrinated minds are unable to carry out that mission. They are, like their “hero,” cowards, and are utterly without honor.

Y’all don’t sound near scared enough I don’t think. Baracky will control the presidency, both houses of Congress, the media, a thousand NGOs and other stuff we haven’t even realized yet. He has a plan to subvert churches even and to harness your kids for his cause. This man is dangerous and people who resist will be hurt.

  22. Log Cabin says:

I think Obama is like most of the liberals I see daily as my coworkers and neighbors: latte sipping, Audi driving, brainless little fools that say things like, “global warming” and “social justice” in order to feel good about themselves. Mostly harmless except for the fact that they travel along with hardcore Marxists, about whom they chuckle and look the other way. Those Marxists will be placed in cabinet posts and other positions of authority under Obama. He will mearly be a figurehead.

When the ideological purges begin, he will get away with saying that he had no idea that was going on and does not represent his philosophy! Watch for it.

  23. Rob Crawford says:

Obama doesn’t particularly worry me — he’s just one guy.

His acolytes, sycophants, and the folks he looks to for advice are the ones that scare the shit out of me. After eight years of screaming “BUSHITLER!!!”, they’re (apparently) un-ironically singing the same tunes, mouthing the same lines as the followers of the original Hitler.

No, that would be three decades of incremental attack by Democrat presidents, cabinet officers, senators, and congressmen. The failure of the electorate to restrain these acts is a culpable offense, as well.

The difference between what will happen to the politicians and the people who elected them is that the politicians, overwhelmingly and almost without exception, will profit personally from this disaster, while the people who let it happen will suffer devastating loss, if not outright destruction of homes, assets, and futures.

The damage that will result from race/class warfighting by the political/activist class is inseparable from what is to come. Make no mistake, race relations are about to be set back a decade or so.

  26. Rob Crawford says:

He was a painter. Could paint an entire apartment — two coats — in a single afternoon!

  27. Bob Reed says:

FWIW, when I mentioned the slogan I too wasn’t saying that O! Hitler. It simply has reinforced the creepy feeling I’ve been getting during this whole cycle, beginning during the primaries, of the whole cult of personality being built around Obama by Axelrod et Al.

Instead of directly inciting soley racial hatred as a rallying point for his cultists, he is resorting to the good old commie notions of class warfare instead. And, while he is not necessarily Hilter-esque, his is definately Fascisti a la Jonah Goldberg’s book.

But, all of his brownshirt cultists tactics, controlled by e-mails from the O!-stag in Chicago, combined with the O! Trooooof squads in Missouri, and the Riefenstal-esque mass rallies sure don’t help contradict any Nazi comparisons that folks might be motivated to make…

  28. Obstreperous Infidel says:

Of course, you didn’t Bob. People like donkeydork are confused constantly. Projecting and confuzzled is no way to live one’s life.

  29. Rob Crawford says:

So which is more worrying — the excesses of the Obamanauts, or the counter-excesses that will come in reaction to those excesses?

  30. Some Dude ... says:

Quick, get some bumper stickers made up that say:

    Ein Volk
    Ein Reich
    Ein Obama!

  31. happyfeet says:

Baracky is fucking Hitler for all practical purposes. Y’all should just deal with that. Some of this here is way too like watching a gaggle of happy teenagers arrive at Camp Crystal Lake I think.

  32. urthshu says:

    >> (Also, no, I don’t think O! is Hitler. I think Hitler might have once held a real job.)

He was a painter. Could paint an entire apartment — two coats — in a single afternoon!

And, later, he got into lampshade-making. Really, he cared about interior decorating. Can’t see why he gets such a bad rap.

  33. Percy Dovetonsils says:

“The damage that will result from race/class warfighting by the political/activist class is inseparable from what is to come.”

Actually, looking at the wealthy urban douchebag Obama supporters, class warfare is becoming increasingly attractive.

    Gimme that Prius, pig!

  34. DonkeyKong says:

Somewhere Orwell is laughing his ass off.

“No, that would be three decades of incremental attack by Democrat presidents, cabinet officers, senators, and congressmen. The failure of the electorate to restrain these acts is a culpable offense, as well.”

The last three decades have been controlled by Democrat’s. Uh Huh……the republicans and their K street project, that was just “community” organizing

  38. cranky-d says:

You need to sit down and have the official drink of the Obama Collective, an arugula latte.

No, thanks, I would rather leave it for you, though I imagine you’ve already had enough. But perhaps you cannot get enough of the arugula latte that is O!

  39. cranky-d says:

While nazi => fascist, fascist =/> nazi. The proggs want to connect them so they can deny the nazi aspects while ignoring their fascism.

  40. TmjUtah says:

    Donkey –

You are being dishonest as well as disengenous.

Have you ever watched a twig girdler? That’s a little beetle that is parasitic to trees.

He makes his nut by chewing a ring through the bark of a living tree branch. And then he feeds on the nutrients that would have been travelling upward to feed the tree. Very subtle, very hard to spot its effect unless you really look for it.

In a big forest there are always the odd dead branches clattering around in the wind.

But sometimes, the beetle gets ambitious. And he goes for the trunk. And once he’s gone one complete lap, that tree is fucking dead. Even if the leaves are shiny green and birds nest in the branches and squirrels play squirrel games up and down the trunk, that tree is as dead as last week’s fish.

It’s not necessary for a democracy to fall in flames, maybe with the mailing of a tasteful little announcement card. It is only necessary for the people to vote themselves cake.

O! noes…. We’re ordering up a whole birthday party, with clowns to boot.

I don’t know if the parasites have killed the tree yet. But I stand by my three decades, and will raise you one unabashed empty suit and a complicit media, as well.

  41. geoffb (JARAIP) says:

“Why else would we be seeing a Prog campaign adopt these techniques, so soon after the publication of “Liberal Fascism?””

The success of “Liberal Fascism?” may lead to the left having to “rehabilitate” Hitler and Fascism. that may seem impossible but the demonization of Hitler took place almost overnight when Germany kicked off “Operation Barbarossa” and invaded “Mother Russia”.

For the first entry in the Hitler Rehab project I nominate, Spike Lee’s “Miracle at St. Anna”.

Those evil “wrascally” anti-fascist resistance fighters lure the dumb but lovable SS guys into committing the massacre of 560 civilians. Some thing they would never had thought of on their own.

Next up, Hitler was a vegan and would have supported PETA had he been allowed to live longer, details at 11.

  42. cranky-d says:

    @42

I ten years ago I might have laughed at that. Now, it isn’t funny at all, because I can see it coming. We already have plenty of holocaust deniers, pretty soon Hitler will just be another ambitious guy trying to do right by his people, who were oppressed by the victors of The War to End All Wars. In fact, it’s the fault of the U.S. that Hitler rose to power.

    Google it!

Creepy isn’t the word… especially after the 8 years of leftist projection we’ve just witnessed

You know, after Hurricane Ike and your house has been damaged – you move the kids into a single room, you’re sleeping on a sofabed in the living room surrounded by undamaged stuff that should be in closets which are now empty because of damage – you feel like things might never be normal again, even though you know the adjuster’s coming out, you’ll get some work scheduled, and things start start moiving back that way. Then you start reading the news now that Power and the Internet have returned, and you’re dealing with both a financial mess and a looming Obama presidency, and you know that things might never return to normal. It’s not a good feeling.

  50. JD says:

Scooter – I cannot help with the economy and Baracky stuff, but is there anything that I/we could help out with for you and your family?

  51. JD says:

ducktrapper – “It’s neither unimaginable or particularly surprising to see history rewritten.”

That still does not make it any less breath-taking when you see it happening in real time.

  52. TmjUtah says:

The point I left out of my last post was that the U.S. government, by design, made bad debt the ultimate foundation of value in our national economy.

By design? I hesitate to ascribe to ill will what incompetence will explain…

But “good intentions”, if they ever existed, certainly paled next to years of incumbent reelections, millions upon millions of campaign contributions from interests that either needed access to the fake wealth or accounting cover for the consequences of the same fake wealth.

There’s an awful lot of cowardice, stupidity, and cynicism on display here.

And yes, the Democrats lead the way because redistribution is foundational to their platform. Plenty of blame, etc. But there is no excuse for this looming leap into the embrace of an out and out marxist; no reason to pick up the gun and shoot ourselves in the head after having already gut shot ourselves.

    Yes. It’s that bad.

  53. Roland THTG says:

  56. scooter (still not libby) says:

JD – I truly appreciate the sentiment, but we’re in fine shape. I’ve never been burgled and dont’ know what it’s like to come home to find your house ransacked, but I hear it’s VERY disorienting – you feel violated, according to what I’ver heard. I get that now – it’s all just stuff, including the house, but it’s an uneasy feeling being surrounded by your stuff and seeing even parts of your domicile in physical disarray. The economic/political landscape makes the psychological ground even more unstable, but at least I’ve got my guns and my church to cling to. Speaking of which, I need to get some .45 ACP. Bet that’ll perk me right up.

  57. ducktrapper says:

Careful Scooter. While clinging to one, don’t drop t’other! ;)

  58. scooter (still not libby) says:

Ric – too true. And I hate to hear myself saying stuff like out loud, because I’m not really despairing hardcore just yet – I’ve always believed that America could survive a poor Presidency, as we pulled out of the Carter administration OK. And I even supported Clinton even though I never voted for him – he was the U.S. President, after all, and I am a citizen of the U.S.

Now, though, not so sure about that. Hope I’m wrong.

Put in the pork for those who paid your way to the top, and use the money to lie to the voters next time and ride out the benefits of incumbency.

The “One Nation” garbage is all about turning a 51%-49% result into 100% power and having the Obamedia declare the 49% irrelevent. In other words, raw political power will be grabbed from the productive class and given to the grifters who are attached to the various left-liberal “isms”.
