Several newspapers — including the Washington Post — are reporting that the Pakistanis have handed over to the U.S. Abu Zubaidah, a high-ranking member of Al Qaeda.
Zubaidah, 30, was born in (ta-da!) Saudi Arabia.
Here’s what the Washington Post has to say:
The individual believed to be Zubaida and 25 other persons were captured Thursday in coordinated raids in the Pakistan cities of Faisalabad and Lahore. The operations were led by Pakistani police officers with assistance from FBI agents and CIA operatives, according to senior administration officials.
Zubaida was shot three times, in the groin and thigh, as he attempted to escape from a compound in Faisalabad during the raid. He is being treated for his wounds at an undisclosed site. One source said he had been transported to Camp X-ray at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
During his press conference this afternoon, Don Rumsfeld refused to confirm the story of Zubaidah’s transfer, saying he didn’t want to get into the habit of releasing information about possible intelligence sources that might devalue those sources. He did, however, suggest that were the military to capture Bin Laden, plenty of folks inside the beltway would be happy to let such information “leak.”
And the children would dance and play.

I’m ready to go out and dance in the street and shoot my gun in the air and give candy to the kids (if it doesn’t get me arrested…)
I’d join you. Except I don’t own a gun. And I’m fresh out of candy.
But I’m willing to hang out in the street with a beer and make jokes about Yasser and mortar shells and 72 white raisins…
