Basketball Jones

It’s halftime, and the Terps should be ahead by, like, 30 points. Instead, they went 6 minutes without a field goal in the first half and are clinging to a six point lead.

They find a way to lose the big games, the Terps do.

I don’t even want to watch the second half; the second half is when the team with the “small town values” (that’s how one of the dopey announcers actually described Indiana — as if farm boys having sex with goats is wholesome all of a sudden) starts burying three pointers, and we’re treated to a sampling of Hoosiers music and color commentary delivered in weighty tones, peppered with words like “destiny” and “dignity” and “Cinderella” and “miracle.”

Ugh. I’m already gagging on the bile

[update: or maybe not… Go Turtles! Hand them goat-bangin’ hicks their asses! Yeeeehaawww…!

Full disclosure: I have a very good friend who’s a huge Indiana basketball fan. He’s from Indiana. Loves John Mellencamp. Loved him back when he was John Cougar, in fact. So when I write of goat-banging hicks, I’m writing with that good friend in mind.

And I like goats as much as the next guy.]

Congratulations from a Duke fan who was pulling for y’all last night.

Of course, you do realize that since Maryland shot 28 free throws to Indiana’s mere 7, with IU having no free throw attempts, that the refs were clearing giving Maryland all the calls, and it was a conspiracy by the refs to determine the winner?  Oh wait, would that only be the case if Maryland had lost, especially to Duke or UNC? wink

Enjoy your well-deserved victory.  I’m sure it feels very sweet.  Now lets get ready for next year.

Thanks!  I’ve been following the Terps since just before the Ralph Sampson era at UVA (like, Albert King, Buck Williams, Greg Manning old school).

Which is why I still think we lost, regardless of what the papers are telling me.
