Major John reports from the International Zone [Karl]

You know… the “Puzzle Palace.” The “Head Shed.”  Swimmin’ pools… movie stars.

Speaking of which, when the Major joined Jeff G and I for lunch, I had no idea he was a fan of one of my Dad’s favorite movies.  If you have seen it, you know the exact sound I am making in my head at the moment.

Hmph. The software’s not letting me link, again.

Major John can be found at miserabledonutsDOTblogspotDOTcom/

You know how to make the adjustment.

    Regards,
    Ric

For a minute there ,major, I thought you meant an adult with teenage kids. To those people we’re always, “them”.

Ouroboros reports from the International District in Seattle.. The SecProg Puzzle Palace

For all kinds tasty Asian food try Uwajimaya Asian Market.. This concludes my report.

Karl, that’s one of my favorite movies, too, and I know EXACTLY what sound you refer to. Scared the living crap out of me, first time I saw it as a kid…:)

I miss Jeff. This is one of those days he may or may not have posted a post, back when.

    Second the noise thing.

But be of good cheer. If this is the THEM! universe, sometime soon a lady smuggling torpedoes under her cotton button up shirt should appear in your life. Maybe. You must remember her dad comes with her, and his ideas are pricey where privates are concerned.

My advice? Cut through the red tape and go with flamethrowers right off the bat.

    hf,

Alternatively, Jeff could have taken my car to the shop, and I would have posted more.

  8. happyfeet says:

Oh. That parking lot thing when you were at Batman. Yes. That would have been good too. When I say I miss Jeff I don’t mean cause I am dissatisfied. It’s just I read stuff and I think hey I wonder what Jeff thinks about this…

  9. Karl says:

    hf,

No worries, I did not read you as dissatisfied, just missing Jeff (like the rest of us). But it would have been good if he could have taken my car to the shop, is what I’m saying.

It’s like on tv where they kill off a character and the real fans hate it when they like just never mention the one ever. I think the new rule of thumb is you should touch on the grieving thing for at least four episodes.

I have thought that we’re kind of in the position of Soc’s friends and companions after the city offed him. Oh my god, we’re on our own without the best man we’ve known among us. We’re just not his equal, simple as that.

Greyhawk has put up MilBlogs TV addressing the Anbar Arising that had the Olbermann types (and nishi) so worked up last week over McCain’s use of the word “surge” to refer to COIN operations by Col McFarland in Ramadi. It is outstanding stuff, very much worth a viewing.

‘Them’ is one of my all-time favorite movies. From the cop who busts out the Thompson to kill the first ant, to the military saying, ‘Yep, giant ants are a problem, lock down the city and send in the Marines’, it’s full of people doing things *right*.

And as a kid, that sound was scary as hell. Especially in the sandstorm part, at night. My oldest saw it recently, and it had him jumpy for a while.

This is one of the few movies that I think could really benefit from a remake (not a ‘reimagining’). Show me more Korea-era troops battling modern CGI giant ants in the sewers (or streets!) of LA, and I’d be a happy, happy geek.

It is again good to hear that Major John is doing well.

  15. Major John says:

JD, Well enough. Some jackass decided to lob a 107mm at us this morning. I really thought I was done with all this getting shot at crap. Ha.

I am trying to get used to the scale of work here. I went from trying to help one Iraqi Army Division in the fight to helping work with their MoD on the entire Armed Forces. I need more coffee…
