Absolute Moral Authoritarianism [Dan Collins]

Below, in Jeff’s Goodbye post (arrivederci, I hope), commenter MarkC offers the following valediction:

Comment by MarkC on 7/27 @ 11:26 am #

Well, I think it is noble of you to take such a step, and am willing to sacrifice my enjoyment of your posts to help our boys and girls in the field. But it is you who is volunteering to make the greatest sacrifice, and for that I salute you, and all members of the armed forces.

To which Major John sensibly responds:

What the heck does #253 mean? Sincerely, a reader in Baghdad. Yes, who is in the Armed Forces.

And to which I interpret:

Comment by Dan Collins on 7/27 @ 12:03 pm #

I think Mark’s trying to make the jocular suggestion that Jeff’s leaving the blog to enlist, because only those enlisted should be able to support Bush’s War.

And indeed, I heard the long-buried name Cindy Sheehan mentioned in a post, yesterday.

Notwithstanding my lack of standing, I’d like to connect this up to something I saw at Gateway Pundit. It turns out (who knew?) that while Barack Obama has been talking in Berlin about lifting Bangladeshi children out of poverty (and if I had standing to speak, I’d suggest this would be a Good Thing), McCain already has done so. So, it’s my sincere hope that Senator Obama will understand that he ought to shut up on this sort of issue.

I should also point out that my intent is satirical, I suppose, just to preempt any misunderstandings. ;-P

It just goes to show that loonwaffles can insert their asinine memes (chickenhawk, in this instance) into just about anything.

Congratulations upon having that baby … how long before you sign him up for the military?
    ****
I’m sorry to hear about the death of your dad … I bet now he can visit with all those fetuses he cared so much about!

  2. serr8d says:

    Preemptively misunderstood.

    Carry on.

  3. The Lost Dog says:

Whatever problems I have with McCain politically, he is a man of honor.

Once again we see the left talking about compassion, and the right actually doing something compassionate.

It’s an age old story. Those that talk, don’t know. Those that know, don’t talk.

Proggs talk a good game, but when it comes time to catch the ball, they say “You take it, somebody else!”

  4. Dan Collins says:

Geez, I didn’t know Bill Schroeder was a progg.

    That explains a lot, actually.

  5. happyfeet says:

It’s essentially anti-semitic I kind of suspect. That’s probably wrong of me, but it’s what I suspect anyway.

  6. B Moe says:

    Barack Obama talks.
Barack Obama talks about lifting the child from Bangladesh from poverty.
    John McCain already did it.

How could Obama not know this?
This was his killer app and he blew it!
    Is it early onset?
How could his handlers miss this?
This was his killer app and he blew it!
It is only going to get worse!

  7. Dan Collins says:

    I don’t know, but I think it’s certainly anti-smite, hf.

  8. happyfeet says:

I know, it’s reachy. But I feels it anyway.

  9. Dan Collins says:

Possibly incensed by the Quaker Oats posts?

  10. Carin says:

Oh, see now they’re going to piss off Nishi.

Either that, or she’s gonna pretend it didn’t happen/ never comment on it/disappear when the subject comes up.

I wonder which tact she’ll take?

  11. Dan Collins says:

She’ll probably insist the Drews are Christians.

  12. Carin says:

McCain gets no credit for rescuing and adopting Bridget because he had the $$$$ to do so. In fact, why didn’t he adopt more? FOR SHAME McCAIN!

  13. Carin says:

On a related note, I finally found an old frien on Facebook – and he asked for my blog (I know, you’re all shocked it wasn’t familiar with my WIDELY READ, and HIGHLY REGARDED blog, but some people live in a cave or something …) and I warned him that I was a conservative, and that he might find my opinions distasteful. I had gotten hints that he was a lib – he sent me some sort of “green” application on facebook.

Anyway, he wrote back that he although he “hated rich people” and was a total progressive, he wouldn’t judge me for my (apparently backward) opinions.

I thought it was rather refreshing for someone to simply be honest about their envy.

    Dan,

It would be nice to see “The Value of an Obama Promise” worked into the mix.

For the moral authority and all.

Yeah. So funny I forgot to laugh.

Rick, apparently the school in AFrica goes under the bus as well …

I’ve seen liberal behavior for what it is for 20 or so years now–it’s as judgmental and bilious as that of self-righteous Christians. Exactly alike.

  19. docweasel says:

I certainly hope that when Obama invades Pakistan, all the “chickenhawkers” will jump all over him for never having served a day in the our Armed Forces. Oh wait, that appellation jumps parties: it didn’t matter for Clinton vs. Bush I nor Dole, it DID matter for Bush II vs. Kerry, now its inoperative again Obama vs. McCain.

Just a quick rule of thumb for the MSM and their lefty allies: bash conservatives in every way possible, even in contradictory and irrational forms.

I hope the commenter has also joined his local Volunteer Fire Dept, if he supports local government putting out his house should it catch fire. Also, the Police Force, they do dangerous work, does the cowardly commentator expect police protection while he pusillanimously refuses to join up? Also, if he supports AIDs research and aid monies, why doesn’t he join a free clinic in Africa? The list goes on and on once you make the argument that you must join every organization with whose goals you agree.

It’s funny that while Sen. Obamanation talks about helping a Bangladeshi child rise from poverty, Sen. McCain actually did that years before that thought was written for the Obamanation, by adopting a lovely daughter from that country. Once again it is vapid words by the Obamanation vs. actual deeds by Sen. McCain.

  21. mojo says:

Cindy Sheehan? Isn’t she currently fellating the mullahs or something?

    Sounds about her speed.

Oh, God, they match the worst stereotypes of judgemental Christians. Insty has some links to news about shootings at a church in Tennessee; the Christian-bashers are out in force, and it’s amazing: “see what you brought on yourself for your judgemental ways?!” Oh, and, of course, the obligatory, “this is what we get for letting people have guns!”

I’ve never seen people more self-righteous and militant about it than the modern left. Ace had a story about a driver who was attacked by Critical Mass in Portland (I think); based on the past history of Critical Mass, it’s pretty clear they were enciting violence. But they were defended by so many people it’s sad.

The Democrat convention’s going to be fun; not for the spectacle they put on, but for the spectacle they don’t intend.

If only we had a press that reported this stuff fairly…

I’m just counting the hours until the MSM decides that McCain is ‘racist’ for inflicting AmmeriKan ‘material culture’ on one of the innocent ‘third world’ children. How evil of him to drag that poor dear away from ‘low carbon footprint’ starvation and push her into the top 1% ( actually more like top .01% ) of the privlidged class.

(snark notice- for the utterly brain impaired.)
