Is Karl’s Post On Penny Pritzker Racist? [Dan Collins; UPDATE]

That’s what someone named Dave Johnson is wondering over at Seeing the Forest:

July 21, 2008

Racist?

Is this headline, Obama’s moneywoman was a subprime mortgage queen, racist? Just asking. I’m thinking it evokes the older “welfare queen” image.

Because, you know, calling Penny Pritzker a subprime mortgage queen is like calling her a welfare queen. I guess. If by welfare you mean hundreds of millions in government tax breaks.

Good ABBA song, though.

Thanks for the heads up on the link.

Full Disclosure:

I went to college with Tony Pritzker (Forbes lists him as #181 in private fortune, worth $1.7 billion), and I found him a very sweet and generous person *snuffle*. I and our mutual friends had a running joke:

“So, I called Uncle Bob, and he says you guys can borrow his elephant. But you have to pay the conveyance and feed it and get it back to him in good condition, okay?”

Tony invited me and several friends to meet him at Jay’s place in Vail, then bagged out because he met some hot chick at Sun Valley. So, there we were, having driven across the US to Vail from New Hampshire. His uncle’s personal secretary and her husband were using the upstairs, and we shmoozed our way into the bottom portion of the unit. She kept on stating that she’d love to see Tony, so we kept on making up stories about where he was, till finally she got suspicious and called Jay, who located Tony, and ordered us out of the condo (two days early, but we’d already gotten in five days, stating that he’d call the police if we weren’t out by 6:00 PM).

Tony was punished by not being able to use the condo at Sun Valley for the rest of the winter.

Honestly, though, I like Tony.

When Norton got married, in Seattle, a 16-year-old bridesmaid disappeared from the reception, and her parents came looking for her in the morning. Much hullabaloo. It turned out she was with Tony, and he left in such a hurry that he somehow managed to leave behind a suit, which Mark Savitt dutifully brought back to Chicago for him. Schwoch came to pick us up at the airport, and Savitt opined that Tony was his hero (for bagging the bridesmaid). I countered that it was in bad form, and he stated that that was true, Tony was a terrible &ct, and to demonstrate his change of heart began dragging the suit along the floor at O’Hare, which did make me laugh.

UPDATE: John F’in Kerry says, “T*r B*by.” I’d like to mau-mau a vowel.

And by “Queen”, your alluding to Freddy Mercury who is … you know… dead.

  2. JD says:

Duh …. !!!! Of fucking course it was racist. You would have to have nishit or Lalalalalapaloozer’s IQ to not know that.

  3. JD says:

    Homophobic and sexist too.

    Racist fucks

Bad link to Seeing the Forest Dan

    – When your whole political existence hinges on race baiting everything in life looks like a tree with a noose.

  6. happyfeet says:

I bet she drives a really nice car though. With like leather seats and shit. And XM Radio. And everyone says here comes Penny in her really nice car.

  7. Percy Dovetonsils says:

Penny Pritzker is about as white as Pat Boone.

I assume we can’t refer to “Queen” Latifah anymore, either, without the racism police coming after us.

  8. Karl says:

The use of the word “queen” might also imply that PP and Superior were to subprime lending what Michael Milken was to junk bonds, as Timothy Anderson is quoted as saying in the post.

Also, is it possible that this person is unaware that PP is, y’know, white?

    Shorter version: Moron?

  9. kelly says:

Tony was punished by not being able to use the condo at Sun Valley for the rest of the winter.

    That’s harsh, man.

  10. poppa india says:

Queen has been added to the list of Forbidden Words. There is no right of appeal.

  11. BJTex says:

What if Karl had called her “The Ghostly Pale Bitch of Subprime Mortgages?”

Would genius Dave Johnson still ruminate about racism? Who cares?

Who am I talking to, anyway?

  12. JD says:

That you do not understand why that title is so blatantly racist just proves how fucking racist you all are.

  13. SevenEleventy says:

“Queen” isn’t gender neutral either. Shouldn’t it be “Subprime Mortgage Royal?”

  14. Topsecretk9 says:

Isn’t Dave Johnson’s Dunce Cap Icon somehow racist?

  15. Karl says:

Truth be told, I was probably subliminally influenced by my recent McCain/ABBA post, and Mamma Mia! becoming the highest opening movie musical evah this weekend. And you can’t get much blacker than ABBA.

  16. dre says:

“And you can’t get much blacker than ABBA.”

Karl you’re right. G.Gordon Liddy likes ABBA.

  17. dre says:

“Obama’s moneywoman was a subprime mortgage queen, racist?”

I’ll grant Freddy is a little queer but racist come on!

  18. JD says:

Why don’t you just do Little Black Sambo and Aunt Jemima in blackface? Racist.

  19. happyfeet says:

There were many posts today but no Jeff ones. I examined each one carefully to be sure.

  20. Spies, Brigands, and Pirates says:

And here I thought we were making fun of the filthy Scandis.

Oh, wait, that’s Ace of Spades, isn’t it?

Wait, we can’t say Ace of Spades either, can we?

By the way, is “Johnson” a reference to the male Penis of Oppression? ‘Cause if it is, I feel harassed. Big time. I think Dave should change his name.

  21. memomachine says:

    Hmmmm.

So the guy invited you to drive from NH to Colorado and he bailed on you? And you’re ok with that?

I’d have hung the fucker from a tree by his ankles.

  22. poppa india says:

“…I feel harassed. Big time.” If this is typical patriarchal bragging, I denounce it. Along with denouncing your saying Ace of Spades, cause when I look at a deck of cards, I notice the color of that ace. For which I must be denounced.

  23. SevenEleventy says:

OT, thought you folks would enjoy this.

  24. Dan Collins says:

memomachine, I got to stay in a first-class condo in Vail at the foot of the mountain for five days . . . for free. Also, he was generous with snow just generally. So, I’m not complaining.

  25. JD says:

    Good powder, huh?

  26. Dan Collins says:

    Never stepped on, JD. Unpacked.

  27. Spies, Brigands, and Pirates says:

If this is typical patriarchal bragging, I denounce it.

I think Dave should change his name to Dave Vagina or something like that, just to prove he’s not sexist.

  28. JD says:

Ah, Dan. I remember those days. They preceded my descent into hell.

  29. Obstreperous Infidel says:

Well, Karl’s racist (thor told me so) so it goes without saying that the headline was racist, too.

Welfare queen is racist? Is that kind of like calling someone “ghetto” racist? I know of quite a few welfare gettin’ crackers in the ghetto. They’d be surprised to know they’re black.

  30. Pablo says:

Is Dave Johnson completely out of his fucking mind? Just asking. I’m thinking of absolute insanity.

  31. Karl says:

Pablo, you may want to examine the hidden premise of your comment. (hint: “mind.”)

  32. Dan Collins says:

    Dave Johnson, Drama Queen.

  33. urthshu says:

Some days just ordering coffee is a minefield for me

  34. Obstreperous Infidel says:

    Dave Johnson, Beeeyotch.

  35. Jeff G. says:

I think I’ve dealt with that site before. Its proprietor is, if I recall, so dumb that the retards make him sit in the front of the short bus.

That’s right, I used a politically incorrect term to refer to the differentially cognitive. So what? If I’m a fucking racist, I may as well go full bore.

  36. adamthemad says:

But she quit in 1994. That’s awfully thin gruel to hang our angry hat upon.

  37. Dan Collins says:

She stepped down from the chairmanship (a largely titular role) in 1994 but continued to serve on the board of directors, overseeing her family’s 50% stake in the company until the bank’s collapse in 2001.[11][10] In the months leading up to the 2001 seizure, the Pritzker family agreed to a major recapitalization plan; Pritzker wrote this would help “once again restore Superior’s leadership position in subprime lending.”[10] In July 2001, FDIC seized the bank after the bank’s investors declined to fund the recapitalization.[11][12][13] Subsequently, the Pritzker family reached an agreement with regulators to pay $460 million over 15 years toward the costs of the collapse; these funds will go towards reducing the costs of the FDIC’s losses and partially reimbursing depositors with accounts in excess of FDIC insurance limits.[10]

  38. adamthemad says:

Well, that’s certainly thicker. Thanks Dan, I don’t deserve the edification, but it would make a great post or something.

  39. Queen Latifah is both a great singer and actress, i love this girl..*.

  40. Taylor Lewis says:
