Andrew Ventilates [Dan Collins] – [UPDATE – Jeff]

Malkin Award Nominee

09 Jul 2008 04:12 pm

“[The progressive Democrats’ position on Iraq] was and is a craven, reprehensible act of cowardice, mirroring the shameful behavior of the Copperhead Democrats 140 years earlier who wanted to abandon Blacks to slavery in the South to sue for peace in the U.S. Civil War. The Copperheads of today’s Democratic Party color themselves “progressives” for championing the abandonment of a group of people (slightly lighter in skin tone than the last time) to a fate potentially as bad or worse than the slaves of antebellum, and make no mistake: the modern Copperheads care no more about “liberty and justice for all” than did their forebearers. Then as now, it was about their selfish personal desires, hopes of amassing political power, and disdain for a stubborn Republican President. Then as now, they could rely upon their friends in the media to carry forth a call for appeasement and abandonment,” – Confederate Yankee.

Yes: Confederate Yankee.

You know that I’m generally indulgent towards Andrew, because I think he’s a flibbertigibbet. Still, I can’t help but feel Andrew needs more of these.

****
update from Jeff: Pardon the intrusion, Dan, but it seems to me that a thought experiment is in order here. Say, for instance, Andrew Sullivan had written something about those who oppose same sex marriage in the same kinds of terms — as evil people who are willing to deny their fellow citizens “equal rights” because they are in thrall to a backward-ass, “Christianist” orthodoxy that has caused their already tiny, hick brains to rot even further.

And say, in response to such, I quoted a portion of that screed, and then signed it “Gay Andrew Sullivan.

“Yes. Gay Andrew Sullivan.”

Same? Different? Somewhere in between? Is it possible for a “confederate” — even one who may be only one by heritage — to speak of slavery as if it were somehow wrong, and use it as a point of comparison without the intimation that he, being a self-identified “confederate,” should just keep his racist yap shut about things he has some nerve! introducing into an analogy?

Beats me. And I don’t much care.

I really just wanted to type Gay Andrew Sullivan.

BECAUSE OF THE HYPOCRISY!

If “flibbertigibbet” is a synonym for “shameless fucking hack,” I agree 100%.

  2. N. O'Brain says:

What, is Excitable Boy trying to be cute?

    “The Malkin Award”?

    A cheap ripoff of LGF.

And CY is on my blogroll, I read it most every day.

  3. ConservativeHero says:

    LGF=Greatest Website Ever.

  4. N. O'Brain says:

LGF = the most depressing Website, EVAH!

    Oh, and Andy?

    Truth stings, don’t it?

  5. dre says:

So much easier to name call than to argue on merits. Perhaps the beagle had an accident and Andy was preoccupied.

  6. Mikey NTH says:

If the link doeasn’t take, just go to the New York Post and read Ralph Peter’s column. It is more than Mr. Sullivan deserves.

LGF almost O! like in its leader worship.

  9. ConservativeHero says:

Rush Limbaugh is the only person on the planet Earth who could ever kick Charles Johnson’s ass. Well maybe Ditka could, but only a hurricane named Ditka.

  10. dre says:

“who could ever kick Charles Johnson’s ass.”

Just show chuck a celtic cross.

  11. dre says:

Does Andy let the beagle blog?

Does Andy let the beagle blog?

No in Andy’s case he let the hamster blog.

  15. ConservativeHero says:

God wrote in the Bible that being gay is a sin. What about this is not clear to Andy?

  16. Mikey NTH says:

“What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives every thing its value. Heaven knows how to put a proper price upon its goods; and it would be strange indeed if so celestial an article as FREEDOM should not be highly rated.”

Such a gift must be protected and never, ever, given to another.* Although Common Sense would argue that spreading that good far and wide provides more protection for that good than keeping it in close.

    *Please pardon my sarcasm.

  17. happyfeet says:

His name is Bob, Andrew, if that helps. You can just call him Bob if there’s some sort of consternation you have about his tautology thinger. He’s a very nice person.

  19. Dan Collins says:

He can’t help it that he’s Confederate. He was born that way.

  20. urthshu says:

Beats me. And I don’t much care.

    That’s the spirit, Jeff!
OT Aside: If there’s any consolation to be had in the Statism/Mob Rule trainwreck we’re going for this cycle, it’s maybe that we now know the USA’s particular kyklos. Yay for dispassionate noodling!

  21. Karl says:

Confederate Yankee is just a wacky misnomer for a blog.

Sorta like “Daily Dish,” as I have never thought of Andy as a dish.

  22. ConservativeHero says:

WTF does Protein Wisdom mean anyway?

  23. urthshu says:

    Its “Protein”?
No wonder. I keep typing in Protean and wind up here, of all places..

  24. Masui says:

I really just wanted to type Gay Andrew Sullivan.

    And so you did!

WTF does Protein Wisdom mean anyway?

I think that merits the Dewey Wilkerson treatment.

    His name is Bob

That’s Bob the Cryer, to you happyfooties.

  25. MarkJ says:

Be gentle and understanding with Andy: he’s depressed because he knows he’ll never have Obama’s baby.

  26. dre says:

“Sorta like “Daily Dish,” as I have never thought of Andy as a dish.”

Please think of the Beagles Karl!!!

  27. SarahW says:

Andrew doesn’t know that confederate means something that is not what he thinks it is, which seems to be “enslavey”. He’s a fool, but what’s new.

  28. Sdferr says:

I never did want to stick my arm down the gullet of a reeally big catfish, whether dispassionately or no.

  29. Jeff G. says:

Masui = crazy Michelle who teaches ESL at some satellite campus of some small Houston school. She’s not very bright. And she’s ridiculously persistent in her tiresome mediocrity.

She’s also generally drunk as a Mick in a pool of whiskey, so if she begins sounding a bit…abstruse, it has nothing to do with cageyness.

    ConservativeHero = Moby.

I don’t care that Andrew is gay. Just as I don’t care that my sister is gay. What I care about is obvious from the update. It’s a thought experiment. Think it through.

  30. happyfeet says:

But Andrew is a lot gay way apart from his sexuality I think. Flibbertigibbet is apt I think, but also he’s something less than monogamous with respect to the words that come out of his fat gay mouth I think. It’s all just really ironic if you think about it.

  31. Dan Collins says:

    Incontinentia Buttocks.

  32. Martin says:

I think Miss Andi is about to get very, very upset. He has been blogging for a week or two about the need for Congress to overturn the current law on the books that will, if unchanged, require him to leave the US. He says this rule was put in 15 or 20 years ago by the recently departed Jesse Helms, who didn’t want to let tourists and other non-US citizens live here if they were HIV positive. This afternoon, a blog reported that a DC-based gay organization has been told that the outpouring of hate immediately after Helms passing, including a great deal by Sullivan himself, has stiffened the opposition of a handful of Senators to any changes in the immigration laws.

I guess even the dead have influence in Washington DC, just as in Chicago.

  33. Sdferr says:

    Fwee Wodewick!

  34. sashal says:

I think Conservative hero is much more funnier then Progressive hero.
I think that explains the success of Rush vs prog’s radio
    The entertainment value-priceless…..

  35. Masui says:

A shot in the dark from a short list.

    Dewey Masui!

I like you Jeff, yes I do!

  36. Mars vs Hollywood says:

WTF? I don’t get it. Is he upset that someone’s opinions are not reflected by their blog name?? What an idiot.

  37. BumperStickerist says:

    Hmmm

    “Confederate YANKEE”

It’s almost like the site name was chosen because it’s a juxtaposition for a Northerner living in the South.

    Hmmmm ….

    Nicely misread, Mr. Sullivan

    Nicely misread.

  38. pmann says:

“It’s almost like the site name was chosen because it’s a juxtaposition for a Northerner living in the South. ”

    By heritage.

  39. If I read this right, help me out here, when Sister Mary Charles Bronson made me sit in from recess until I named my “confederates” she was calling me a racist? That BITCH!

  40. Smirky McChimp says:

“This afternoon, a blog reported that a DC-based gay organization has been told that the outpouring of hate immediately after Helms passing, including a great deal by Sullivan himself, has stiffened the opposition of a handful of Senators to any changes in the immigration laws.”

Don’t suppose there’s any chance they drew a meaningful lesson from this, is there?

Incidentally, if AIDS isn’t a gay disease, why would a gay rights organization be up in arms over HIV immigration policy? Or did I just get temporarily sane again?

  41. Rob Crawford says:

We *really* need an ignore function.

  42. TheKnightWhoSaysNi! says:

This is not a thought experiment. Thinking is not allowed. Listen and parrot:
    .
The South lost, so the North gets to write the history. Ergo, all who fought for the South (i.e. Confederates) were pro-secession (whether they supported it or not), pro-slavery (whether they owned slaves or not), and traitors (notwithstanding all facts and logic to the contrary).
    .
The Civil War was caused by one thing only: slavery. Tariff policy, states’ rights, clash of cultures, political subjugation and exploitation of the South by the North, were NOT factors.
    .
Anyone who believes there was anything whatsoever honorable about their Confederate ancestors is most likely a green-toothed hayseed and product of an incestuous union.
    .
Anyone who doesn’t embrace these truths should be ridiculed and charged with a hate crime.
