Fight the Smears [Dan Collins]

O! yes we can:

The campaign of 2008 started on July 1 when Obama launched his first national advertising buy of the season. How McCain responds and whether or not he does, will have a big impact in determining whether Obama can solidify or expand his current lead in the polls. As always, the media fails to cover the significant events of the campaign — but this is one of the most critical.

The Obama ad, which introduces him as someone who worked his way through college, fights for American jobs, and battles for health care also seeks to move him to the center by taking credit for welfare reform in Illinois which, the ad proclaims, reduced the rolls by 80%.

But there’s one problem – Obama opposed the 1996 welfare reform act at the time. The Illinois law for which he takes credit, was merely the local implementing law the state was required to pass, and it did, almost unanimously. Obama’s implication — that he backed “moving people from welfare to work” — is just not true.

On the other hand, he’s a difference maker, in a way that reminds me of this poem:

Poor Lucy Lake was overgrown,
But somewhat underbrained.
She did not know enough, I own,
To go in when it rained.

Yet Lucy was constrained to go:
Green bedding,–you infer.
Few people knew she died, but oh,
The difference to her!

In recent days, Mr. Obama has imbued those years with even greater significance, invoking them last week as inspiration for his plan to deliver social services through religious organizations. He told a conference of the African Methodist Episcopal Church on Saturday that as a community organizer he “let Jesus Christ into my life” and “I dedicated myself to discovering his truth and carrying out his works.”

It is clear that the benefit of those years to Mr. Obama dwarfs what he accomplished. Mr. Kellman said that Mr. Obama had built the organization’s following among needy residents and black ministers, but “on issues, we made very little progress, nothing that would change poverty on the South Side of Chicago.”

Making the same point: Commentary and Presto Pundit; on Obama’s literary style and the audacity of embellishment, Althouse; Jammie Wearing Fool on the how the organized community has benefitted, and Saul Alinsky.

Baracky lies. That is what he does. The Left accepts that. It is who they are.

  2. McGehee says:

Clintonistas like to credit Bill for welfare reform, because Gingrich’s Republican Congress sent him welfare reform three times and he only vetoed it twice.

  3. BJTex says:

Obama’s original opposition to the Welfare Reform Act was “inartful.” Once he became required to pass it at the state level his support was “nuanced.” Taking credit for removing thousands from the welfare rolls via a law he opposed is a “developing policy position.”

Obviously we need an ongoing vocabulary execise similar to those in Reader’s Digest.

One of these words is not like the other…. “

BJ – As a wiser poster once noted, you are an oppressor and a racist. Also, the Leftist dictionary, it is blank – no definitions. Define as you wish, as you go along.

JD: May a toothless midget clown gum your face.

I feel the hope and change, don’t you?

You are an evil man. Just as I was starting to sleep through the night, now that the nefarious Bozo the Creepy is no longer with us.

  10. Dan Collins says:

Well, the South Side of Chicago
Is the baddest part of town.
And if you go down there
    You’d better just beware
    Of a toothless midget clown.

  11. JD says:

None of you racists have an ounce of compassion or humanity. Good Allah, guys. Are you trying to make me need happy pills?

  12. Dan Collins says:

    Should be “has,” JD.

  13. B Moe says:

“The Obama ad, which introduces him as someone who worked his way through college…”

Anybody know what jobs he had, besides writing his autobiography?

  14. BJTex says:

He wears a big nose and white makeup
and shoes three times too long
    and when he smiles
    he’s missing all his tiles
with a height about three foot one!

  15. BJTex says:

Sorry, JD, but I’m trying to break in to the “white oppression” market.

  16. alppuccino says:

Well Friday, ’bout a week ago,
    Midget, on his trike,
And on the Cermack curb, sat a boy named Obama,
And ooh, that boy talked nice.

Well, he turned his ears to hear him,
    And trouble soon began,
Midget clown learned a lesson ’bout confessin’
    Two stances on Iran.

  17. BJTex says:

Well he’s short, short, toothless man
Gummiest clown in the whole damn land.
    Looking for change and hope,
gummin’ up the heads of dopes!

  18. alppuccino says:

Well the two men start debatin’
and when Gibson said to stop,
Midget Clown stomped ‘im cuz a lack ‘o telepromptin’
    made Obama flip and flop.

  19. BJTex says:

He left gum marks on his ankles
and Baracky fell to the floor.
    He commenced to masticatin’
While he howled into his cranium,
“You ain’t nothin but a whore!”

    Chicago town got Baracky Obama,
    he’s a Lightworkin’ son of a gun.

You don’t dare let McCain in.
No matter what Bammy say you gotta pull that lever.
    Let your BDS kick in.

  22. JD says:

    More Croce?

Teleprompter, oh could you help me make this call
I’m raising capital gains tax because of fairness.
    Gibson says I’m wrong
He thinks I overpacked my bong
But I’m counting on a lack of public awareness

Isn’t that the way I said it goes
    But let’s forget all that
And give me the poll number when you find it
So I can just switch to popular side and to show
    I’ve overcome the blow
    I’ve weathered Ms. Michelle,
I only wish my words could just convince myself
    ***That it just wasn’t real***
But that’s not the way it feels

Remember, don’t sleep ’cause the toothless midget clown will eat you.

Or, if you’re lucky, the toothless midget hooker will eat you.

I can’t believe I just said that. I have to go over to AoS now as penance…

  28. Mikey NTH says:

Though I get the point, I like the original better.

She dwelt among the untrodden ways
    Beside the springs of Dove,
Maid whom there were none to praise
    And very few to love:

A violet by a mossy stone
    Half hidden from the eye!
—Fair as a star, when only one
    Is shining in the sky.

She lived unknown, and few could know
    When Lucy ceased to be;
But she is in her grave, and, oh,
    The difference to me!

  29. Senator Obama is NOT a Dirty Muslim!

“What you won’t hear from this campaign or this party is the kind of politics that uses religion as a wedge,” says Mr. Obama, while denouncing statements of him being a Muslim as a smear. Why is the presidential candidate who claims to be religiously inclusive is treating the word “Muslim” as an insult? Apparently, it is OK for Mr. Obama to be associated with terrorists like William Ayers or racists like Jeremiah Wright, but God forbid somebody would call him a Muslim! No, he won’t stand for that kind of smear! We admit that most terrorists are Muslims, but most Muslims are not terrorists and the statement on Mr. Obama’s website is insulting to hundreds of millions of people.

How could a man who discards his family heritage in favor of political expediency be even considered for presidency of the United States? Where are all the so-called “Islamic civil rights groups” like CAIR, MPAC, ISNA, MAS, etc. who are quick to defend every Islamic terrorist, but are silent when Muslims in general are being denigrated? Would Mr. Obama have the same reaction if someone claimed that he was raised as a Jew? We sincerely doubt that.

“In the wake of 9/11, my meetings with Arab and Pakistani Americans, for example, have a more urgent quality, for the stories of detentions and FBI questioning and hard stares from neighbors have shaken their sense of security and belonging. They have been reminded that the history of immigration in this country has a dark underbelly; they need specific reassurances that their citizenship really means something, that America has learned the right lessons from the Japanese internments during World War II, and that I will stand with them should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.” Barack Obama, “The Audacity of Hope”, page 261.

Well, the political winds did shift in an ugly direction. Is equating “Muslim” with “smear” Obama’s idea of “stand[ing] with [Muslims]?

Muslims Against Sharia demand immediate removal of “SMEAR: Barack Obama is a Muslim” statement from the official Barack Obama’s website as well as an apology for giving the word “Muslim” a negative connotation.

    http://muslimsagainstsharia.blogspot.com/2008/06/senator-obama-is-not-dirty-muslim.html

    Update:
Obama changes “SMEAR: Barack Obama is a Muslim” to “SMEAR: Barack Obama is secretly a Muslim” as well as removes his pledge not to use religion as a wedge from site’s header.
