Funny you should ask because, as I recall, the NHS has recently suggested the idea that, beyond a certain age, treatment for such things as cancer should be witheld… to reduce costs, natch.
The real proof that Alston is a tool is that he went to Afghanistan and said that: he found no evidence of “widespread intentional killings in violation of human rights or humanitarian law.”
Of course he didn’t bother looking at either Al Qaeda or the Taliban I guess.

There was a time when people in the know accepted the fact that government (of about every type) exists not for the sake of the collective, but for the sake of itself. Reagan was the last pol I remember saying that weakening the role of government was an innate good in its own right…..just because government is, by its very nature, stupid and selfish and all around evil.
