The indictment of Lori Drew in the MySpace suicide case brings a small sense of satisfaction to Richmond-area blogger Sarah Wells.Wells is credited with being the first person to identify Lori Drew publicly as the person allegedly responsible for creating a fake MySpace account from which cruel messages were sent to Megan Meier, 13, of suburban St. Louis.
Though Megan killed herself in October 2006, allegedly in response to the messages, the case didn’t become public until an article was published in the St. Louis-area Suburban Journals newspapers on Nov. 11, 2007. Wells posted Drew’s name Nov. 13 on her blog, bluemerle.blogspot.com. ÂÂ

Brava, SarahW, brava.
Dude, you should have at least quoted this:
Because of the self-promotion.
Discussion in the Drew Post you put up yesterday was good and linky to relevent blogs, with plenty of pro/con discussion of the indictment right here at PW. You could accidentally link that smoke post, though.

One point where the reporter glossed over the boring details a bit was this:
The only minor almost-distortion, which is still sort of true at the
end of the day, is this bit:
“Wells located a police report that identified Drew as saying a
MySpace account for “Josh Evans,” a fictitious 16-year-old, was
intended to find out what Megan was saying about her own 13-year-old
daughter.”
I did find the Drews likely identity online, but I picked up the phone
to verify her connection to the case. I found someone who did so, and read to me portions of the police report. Probably not an important distinction, but I’m all squidgy now about that stuff, maybe oversensitve.
– Start typing kiddo. I’ve added you to My daily read list.
– Try not to embarrass the legacy media too much.
Good job, missy.
What a strikingly fair article. That’s so weird I had to read it twice.
You done good, Sarah.
It’s too bad we don’t run people out of town on a rail anymore. Can’t think of another case where popular ostracism would be worse that judicial punishment, like in this one.
Good job, Sarah.
Do I remember correctly that the Drews have children?
Drew’s daughter had an on/off friendship, and had feuded with Megan. That was the impetus for the whole myspace deal.
