Among Americans who believe their personal finances are getting better, 67% say that faith and religion are Very Important in their lives. A Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey also found that, among those whose finances are getting worse, 55% consider faith and religion that important.
The survey also found that those who are optimistic about their finances are also more likely than others to pray, read the Bible, and attend Church…
More evidence that Barack Obama does not understand most Americans. Ouch.
Update: HotAir-lanche!
‘Course it’s not. It’s the opiate of them asses.
Heh.
Too bad they didn’t break down the people who rated faith “Very Important” by religion/denomination. It was a question they asked (68% Christian, 0% Muslim, 22% “other”), but didn’t include in the free report. There might be interesting data there.
I’m also curious how many of those who don’t read “the Bible” read other religious literature like the Upanishads or An Inconvenient Truth (guessing at “other”) instead. The report was a little unclear.
When you view Leftism as the religion that it is, it becomes obvious what Barcky meant.
Baracky thinks of Christianity as a tool. An organizing tool. Poor black people over here. Greedy white people over there. This is how he likes to organize things. It was a lot telling in his tax returns that all the charities they picked were for black peoples. Care and United Negro College Fund and like $20,000 to his hatey anti-American church. He and M’chelle are team players like that. But the key thing is that they don’t have a lot of use for institutions but for how they benefit their preferred race. They’re probably really excited to get into the White House and get busy. This is potentially divisive I think.
Marxism is the opiate of the intellectual.
Obama is a uniter !
I don’t criticize the Obamas for donating to black charities. I think it’s more interesting how little they gave prior to the book windfalls, though, considering their combined income.
All that survey proves is that the opiate works. First comes the bitterness, then the religion, then the optimism. I’d be optimistic too if I thought some magical being in the sky was going to fix all my problems.
No. Black charities are different from color-blind charities. It’s definitely not we’re all in this boat together kind of thinking. That’s fine for racially motivated Chicago lawyers, but not very presidential I don’t think.
You have to remember when they were making their charity decisions the concern about Baracky was he wasn’t black enough. So they figured they could buy some is what this looks like. It’s really a sort of thinking that’s a lot foreign to me.
Your evidence, please.
Pablo – Their evidence is the assertion. It is gleenwaldian.
I dunno, Pablo. Bill sure is sounding very, very bitter. I’m kinda doubting that he’ll find religion, though, which makes him ineligible for teh optimism.
Of course, I could just be an elitist…
BECAUSE OF THE GREY GOOSE!!!
– “….the concern about Baracky was he wasn’t black enough.”
– Maybe he should talk to St. Gore about gettin’ some of those “carbon footprint” thingies.
It would be different maybe if he wasn’t so explicit about how disdainful he is of white Christianity, but given his low opinion of those people, I think a lot it looks like they wanted to make sure no stupid white people got any of their monies. That’s racist I think.
“Your evidence, please.”
I think it’s ironic that a religious person is suddenly so concerned with evidence, but here it is.

Scroll down about halfway and look at the link between religious faith and wealth.
Pablo is religious? why didn’t anyone tell me?
Question of the day:
Is Bill as bitter as the poor Africans?
Follow up:
Was Obama refering to poor Africans when he made his “bitter” statement? THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING!!!
Bill,
You might want to look at the chart at your own link again, paying special attention to how much of an outlier the US is from the trendline.
but, um, still that doesn’t say anything about “bitterness”
I’d be optimistic too if I thought some magical being in the sky was going to fix all my problems.
Yeah, that’s what Job used to say. Used to.
Hell, why didn’t anyone tell me? Don’t tell me I’m gonna have to give up sleeping in on Sunday mornings.
Bill, a link between wealth and faith is not evidence of pre-faith bitterness. Care to try again?
That’s a creepy graph. Kuwait is rich and religious and very hot. Africa is poor and religious and also very hot. Europeans are rich and they worship fervidly at the climate change altar. Do the math.
I think if Bill used more butter and less bitterness, Jesus would like him better.

Obama is a uniter !”
What happens if you don’t want to be united?
Bill: Do you believe in magic?
It’s like a young girl’s heart, ya know!
I think you all were supposed to be awed that he had a link, not actually read the link.
Well, hf, this is stupid, anyway. Everyone knows that malt liquor is the opiate of the downtrodden. That, and Oprah Winfrey.
Bill? BILL?
I just wanted to say that I’m optimistic about your bitterness. No, I didn’t skip a step.
It wasn’t supposed to be this way, Dan.
malt liquor is likely more delicious than Oprah, or so I’ve been told.
– Something tells me that poor black Africans would be mighty bitter if they knew Wright was living in a 1.5 million dollar mansion. In a gated, guarded, all white community, off a golf course. Yes, I’m absolutely sure when they sat down to eat their bowl of bug infested gruel they’d be simply in thrawl thinking about his good fortune, and how he made it all playing “race baiting for dollars” at their expense.
BBH: At least the good reverend was able to hang on to his BLT bona fides by blowing right past “middleclassness.”
Bill Scrunty says: I’d be optimistic too if I thought some magical being in the sky was going to fix all my problems.
You pick’em. The more conservative rural redneck types say Jesus/God whatever will fix all their problems. Bill and his brethren say Obama will fix all their problems.
Jesus/God has been in the “fixing problems” business a lot longer than Obama. I’ll go with experience.
BJ Texs,
I know it makes me feel groovy.
Karl:
FUNKIST!
Not to beat a dead and dessicated horse but….
Maybe Bill has been eaten up by his bitterness making it impossible to find his optimism amoungst the scraps of his soul.
I sure hope he’s rich but Jesus doesn’t like the wealthy ones.
Leftists, like Bill, assume that everyone is equally, if not more bitter, than he is.
BJ – Go right ahead and vivisection that horse while you are at it.
Bill just stopped by to paste some crap on the wall. ‘spose Nishi’s not going to clean it up.
You summon a demon by speaking its name, you know.
Cranky-d: Only if you do it with bitterness.
I’ll stop now…
All that survey proves is that the opiate works. First comes the bitterness, then the religion, then the optimism. I’d be optimistic too if I thought some magical being in the sky was going to fix all my problems.
I think Bill is thinking of Powerball.
No, opium is the opiate of the masses.
Bill Scrunty says: I’d be optimistic too if I thought some magical being in the sky was going to fix all my problems.
I guess Bill is only optimistic while Obama is in flight, then.
I grew up in a household with five children and a yearly income that never exceeded $ 24k. They were not unbelievers, but the only times I ever saw my parents in church were at weddings and funerals. Religion was not my father’s opiate of choice. He prefered whiskey.
And guns. Lots and lots of guns. Especially after he had to give up the whiskey.
BJ Texs,
Sebastian funky? Hardly.
So, was Scrunty a new one or one of the old ones? I need a scorecard.
Not to beat a dead and dessicated horse but….
I’d pile on too, but
