Big [Dan Collins]

I like to mock the left when I hear their peculiar use of the word “Big,” as in “Big Pharma” or “Big Oil,” and I love to turn it around on them when I hear that people such as San Fran Nan are benefitting from government policies they’ve backed that benefit Bigs of whatever stripe, without seeing the trouble with Big Government.  Still, it strikes me as perhaps a matter of taking it too far when I hear a commercial for Ben Stein’s Expelled that refers to Big Science.

I object not because I don’t think that the term has descriptive validity, and not because I don’t agree with some of Stein’s points regarding scientific orthodoxy.  I object because I feel slighted that nobody seems to grasp the importance of Big Satire in the fight against Big Victimization Collectivism.

Is that some satire in your pocket or … um, nevermind really.

  2. Dan Collins says:

    It’s on vibrate.

  3. psycho... says:

Is Laurie Anderson gonna have to choke a bitch?

    (…or something like that)

    Collins, Collins…..

Not sure exactly what parsing you seek to glean from this, but you do seem to attempt to retain some credibility without hurting Stein’s
    tender id.

Yes, it DOES depend on who’s ox is being gored, but I hardly think you need fear the loss/gain of BIG Pharma’s ad revenue. Your motive might spring from the elusive hope.

Reviewers are not being kind to Stein, who apparently wishes to circumvent, or invent his own science to make a point about
Academia, in general. Has he failed? It would appear so.

“It’s a film written by pop creationists, who virtually never have the first idea what evolution is, how scientific evidence works, and so on. Instead of any serious discussion of biochem, genetics, or anything else, it looks like we get a heap of phony outrage generated by flat out lying and misleading the audience about cases like Richard Sternberg.”

  5. Dan Collins says:

Ugh. There’s something else I agree with Paglia about. Laurie Anderson, way overrated.

  6. Pablo says:

    TEH EXPELLED!?!?! OHNOES!!!

Laying bait today, Dan? I didn’t realize it was trapping season already.

  7. Dan Collins says:

What’s funny is that Big Science is a bete noir of the left. Unless it’s Big Green.

  8. Pablo says:

Instead of any serious discussion of biochem, genetics, or anything else, it looks like we get a heap of phony outrage generated by flat out lying and misleading the audience about cases like Richard Sternberg.

Huh. The flip side of Al Gore, then. Well, at least Stein isn’t telling us that the sky is falling.

  9. JD says:

Miss Cleo is as incoherent as always. This should drive the genocidal nishidiot insanerer.

  10. Dan Collins says:

You know, the same people who feel it’s in our best interest to have health insurance companies pay for homeopathic and other alternative remedies.

  11. B Moe says:

written by pop creationists, who virtually never have the first idea what evolution is…

Yeah, that pretty much sums up Ben Stein.

  12. Semanticleo says:

“You know, the same people who feel it’s in our best interest to have health insurance companies pay for homeopathic and other alternative remedies.”

Because it’s in our best interest to pay through the nose for patent pending poisons. We’re all stockholders, you see, so……….

  13. Dan Collins says:

Oh, I thought you’d be interested in having us pay for treatments that have been subjected to scientific scrutiny and determined effective.

  14. Pablo says:

Yeah, that pretty much sums up Ben Stein.

But wait! It appears that he’s an academic.

Stein’s first teaching stint was as an adjunct professor, teaching political and social content of mass culture at American University in Washington, D.C., and then at University of California, Santa Cruz. He also held classes on political and civil rights from the United States Constitution at UC Santa Cruz. At Pepperdine University in Southern California, Stein taught libel law and United States securities law and its ethical aspects. He was a professor of law at Pepperdine University Law School, from about 1990 to 1997.

    Heh.

  15. Dan Collins says:

Science, you know. Instead of palliatives for superstition, like . . . oh, religion.

  16. Pablo says:

Because it’s in our best interest to pay through the nose for patent pending poisons.

Oh, no. The patents are definitely in place.

  17. Semanticleo says:

“Oh, I thought you’d be interested in having us pay for treatments that have been subjected to scientific scrutiny and determined effective.”

Oh, well. If the FDA has approved it, it all works out in the end.

  18. Dan Collins says:

(Except that one arrays itself in the mantle of science, and the other doesn’t.)

  19. Dan Collins says:

So, with medications, empiricism based on feelings is valid, but with religion it is not, ‘cleo?

  20. Dan Collins says:

Well, you know, because if Greenpeace endorses it . . .

  21. Semanticleo says:

“But wait! It appears that he’s an academic.”

Wait a minute…..so’s Glenn Reynolds and Professor Yoo….

Gasp! They must know something about something.

  22. Pablo says:

Shit, I think I just slipped a chakra. Medic! Swami!

  23. Semanticleo says:

    Sorry. I forgot Ann Outhouse.

  24. Dan Collins says:

You know . . . treatment with various colors of light and new age music. Adjustment of auras.

  25. Dan Collins says:

    Hopeyness therapy.

  26. Dan Collins says:

    Carbon credits.

  27. so, Semanticleo shuns the medication? that explains so much.

  28. Mikey NTH says:

One of these days I hope Big Blog will come along and allow me to sell out…what do you mean this is as big as it gets?

  29. JD says:

patent pending poisons tells us a lot of how the fevered minds of Leftists work. An industry that employs hundreds of thousands of people, and spends billions of dollars researching and producing medications that extend the lives of all people, make people comfortable, relieve symtoms, and improve the quality of life. But Cleo sees them as producing patent pending poisons.

  30. Enoch_Root says:

I totally dug oil until they became big. I mean, same with the green thing. it was like totally phish before phish made it big. same with pharmaceutical. dug their earlier stuff, before every fair-weathered fan started going to their shows. once PW gets to be Big Blog, I am outta here… SELL OUTISTS!

  31. BJTexs TW/BP says:

    Hey cleo!

Some drugs come with potential side effects that create a risk.

Bigger risk? Untreated medical conditions. Check into it. It may make you more coherent.

    Or not…

maggie at #27: you made me spew you shrew :-)

  32. MayBee says:

This movie was not brought to us by Big Hollywood.

(where Big Salary exists, but is benign when compared to Big CEO Pay)

  33. daleyrocks says:

As long as they support pre-traumatic stress disorder semen is down with it.

She’s easy that way. Preventive care and all that.

  34. JD says:

daleyrocks – Semen screeching about having PRE-traumatic stress disorder was one of my all-time favorite internet moments, coming in shortly behind Kos’s “screw ’em”, and the vivisection of the gleeeeeeens by wuzzadem and patterico.

  35. Enoch_Root says:

daley & JD – you gotta get me a link to that seman-ness. I must read it.

  36. Spies, Brigands, and Pirates says:

They must know something about something.

Lots of academics around here, Cleo.

At best, being an academic is evidence that you know a lot about ONE thing (in practice, this isn’t always the case).

It doesn’t (or shouldn’t) grant any special weight to topics outside your field of expertise, for the same reason that Michael Jordan’s opinion on breakfast cereal doesn’t really count.

    Argumentum ad verecundiam.

  37. gamera says:

    …..so’s Glenn Reynolds

    Expelled by Expelled [John Derbyshire]

Biologist-blogger P.Z. Myers is crushed by the iron heel of the Ben Stein tyranny … but there is a hilarious punchline.

    03/22 08:57 AM

  38. gamera says:

nishi says politics is just fractal tribalism.
even when the size is the different the shape remains the same.

  39. gamera says:

    sorry for italics

  40. N. O'Brain says:

Is cleo a member of Big Macadamia?

  41. Pablo says:

Biologist-blogger P.Z. Myers is crushed by the iron heel of the Ben Stein tyranny … but there is a hilarious punchline.

Is anyone else seeing shades of Andy Kaufman here?

  42. Dan Collins says:

Gamera. For a giant flying turtle with teeth, that boy can dance!

  43. gamera says:

also he is muchloved by all the childrens of japan

  44. Big Bang Hunter (pumping you up) says:

    – Cleo wants alternatives to Big Pharma by replacing it with BigGov. Why?. Because with the Left the best approach to any issue is to find a way, any way, that opens the door to the possibility that someone else will end up paying for it.

    – “To each according to their laziness, from each according to their gullibility.”

    (Teh collective credo)

  45. gamera says:

not every one knows dr. yes is nishi’s special name for glenn reynolds.
i must say glenn reynolds told nishi that “it was too bad benstein was making a fool of himself.”
    you can ask him
    ;)

  46. The Big Ten says:

    Ours goes to eleven.

  47. gamera says:

nishi thinks the academics on the rightside will say the same as dr. reynolds and the derb.
farenheit911 was an attempt to redraw the war in iraq to make a fake-umentary smackdown on the right for keeping winning elections all the time.

expelled is a fake-umentary smackdown down on real science for not letting intelligent design into their exclusive club.
but part is the antipathy against the real scientists for thinkin the id ppls are dumb.

a lot of real scientists do think the id ppls are dumb. probably most.
like a lot of blacks think whitey is keeping them down.
    like black liberation theology.

nishi doesnt think O can be a great uniter anymore.

  48. gamera says:

im not one of feets turtles
that one kids turtles are named darwins and galapagos

    im nishi’s turtle.

  49. Rob Crawford says:

Semen screeching about having PRE-traumatic stress disorder was one of my all-time favorite internet moments

I liked when Semen admitted he had no problem with the Clinton’s rifling through political opponents FBI files and using the IRS to punish their enemies because he trusted them.

  50. McGehee says:

    im nishi’s turtle.

And probably smarter than she is.

  51. JD says:

the shit stains on the bunghole of nishi’s turtle are smarter than nishi.

  52. darwins says:

    gapagus, really

  53. JD says:

Enoch – go to Patterico’s place, where Semen was having an aneurysm about how she is afflicted by pre-traumatic stress disorder. She was doing so in defense of Beauchamp, saying that he had already been effected by the war prior to being in the war, which caused him to pre-emptivley start writing lies. Truly a classic.

  54. McGehee says:

Poor, abused Miss Cleo. Don’t y’all know that when you snipe at her it’s really you who are the trolls?

  55. Mikey NTH says:

And matoko has a new name? So quickly?
    Boo!

  56. gamera says:

    gapagus, sry
    also the derb says….
“Darwinism” does not claim to explain life. It claims to explain the origin of species — why there are so many kinds of living things in the world, not why there are living things at all, a thing we currently do not know and have no testable theories for. Celestial Mechanics explains the motions of matter in the universe, not matter’s origins. That would be cosmology.

Maybe we would have a new theory …

If someone comes up with one, one that accommodates all the known facts, biologists will give it serious attention. Until someone does, we’ll stick with the best theory we’ve got. NB: “Darwin was a horrible person!” “Darwinism is bunk!” and “Hitler heart Darwin!” are not theories, only expostulations. And on that last one I will give the warning I always give: If guilt by association is the game you want to play, take a look at some devout Creationists.

  57. gamera says:

Look, the only issue of any political importance here is: What should we teach kids in public schools? The only answer that makes sense to me is: We should teach them consensus science. If you want your kid to be taught Hollow Earth Theory, Orgonomics, Astrology, Great Pyramid Numerology, or Transcendental Meditation, I’m fine with it — but not on my dollar, please.

the derb doesnt think much of ur academicical ben stein.
have u other academics wantin to stand up for stein?
    sry, crappy ed doesnt count.

  58. gamera says:

    and this
Stein seeks to make of Darwin an apologist for British Imperialism, and seems surprised that ‘darwinism’ has outlived imperialism, confidently predicting the theory’s downfall. Along the way, he repeats several old-chestnut canards about natural selection: that it is all about ‘the survival of the fittest,’ supposedly claiming that dominant species always wipe out weaker species, that it has never been demonstrated to create a new species, and that Darwin is responsible for evils like ’social darwinism’ and therefore the holocaust. He also brings up that ‘Darwinsim’ says nothing about the origin of life, another of the usual suspects in the creationist line-up.

Derbyshire takes Stein out to the woodshed, spanking him hard in just a few sentences. None of Stein’s arguments holds up, naturally. It’s unfortunate that we will soon be subjected to Stein’s cdesign proponentist propoganda film, complete with study materials and appearences in schools and endless right-wing talking heads (Bill O’Reilly’s already been there) signing its praises. Hats off to John Derbyshire, who is not going to let right-wing ideology blind him to reality.

  59. darwins says:

How are we subjected? I still hasn’t seen the Farenheit 911 thinger. I think maybe there was another liberal documentary made last year too.

  60. Pablo says:

So, when do we get the Goreacle and his Inconvenient Bullshit out of schools?

  61. gamera says:

    That would cosmology….

see? the goal posts are moving even as we speak.
pretty soon we will be stacking molecules in nanoscale to make synthetic life.
wat will the creationists argue then?
    that god made molecules?
meanwhile “Big Science” will be working in picoscale.
then the creationists must argue that god made atoms.
while u are doing that, “Big Science” will be working in fermiscale.
then god must be creating subatomic particles and dark matter….right?
    wrong.
why would the Creator of Worlds, He Who Pastures the Stars, be muckin around at cell lvl?
or assembling atoms or super particles?
    pfft.
    no planning, id ppls.

next month we may be finding higgs bosuns at CERN.
that will prove big chunks of 11-dimensional string theory.
    CERN FTW!!!!

but u id ppls are goin the wrong ways.
the Divine Beloved made stars and suns galaxies and metaverses.
    not cell membranes or eyeballs.
the Creator of Worlds just started the flow.

  62. gamera says:

    work on it pablo
2 wrongs doesnt make a right.
forcing id into schools with the wedge strategy wont get gorejunkscience out.

  63. gamera says:

    darwins
nishi will not pay to see either one.

  64. darwins says:

Who are the id peoples? I think it’s kind of contrived me personally.

  65. darwins says:

Films always have the opportunity costs of the films what you don’t see instead of the one you do. Sometimes it’s just too much pressure. A lot of times, really.

  66. gamera says:

ben stein is one id ppl.
others are just all the xian fish ppl.
stein wants to give BigScience a black eye for sneerin at ID
    the xianfish ppl all applaud.
they resent the highly educated that dislike religious conservatives.

  67. darwins says:

What does it mean to give BigScience a black eye? For reals. Is this one of those chilling effect arguments?

  68. gamera says:

they resent ppl that think they stupid.

  69. darwins says:

That’s actually very sophisticated if it turns out they can quantify it I think.

  70. gamera says:

stein wants to paint academe as intolerant of ALL new paradigms, ALL new ideas.
he edited the scientists to make them look rabid, and lied to get interviews.
but really the scientists are just intolerant of IDT.
    and tired of it.

  71. gamera says:

it is a binary tautology right now feets….
science: IDT is stupid AND xians believe in IDT THEREFORE xians are stupid.
    how wud u quantify it?

  72. darwins says:

Scientists are also a lot intolerant of the idea that agw climate change is teh stoopid. Scientists need to work on their credibility I think. Al Gore is not a scientist, but they pretend he is. Why come can’t Ben Stein pretend too?

  73. darwins says:

Oh. I meant more if they can quantify how much the people they resent think they are stupid. It’s important to get the right balance I think.

  74. gamera says:

not because I don’t agree with some of Stein’s points regarding scientific orthodoxy

    this is why
stein is foolin ppl like dan.

    darwins, stop with gore.
two wrongs dont make a right.

    IDT is doomed
we will be able to stack molecules to make RNA and DNA soon, with bioassemblers.

  75. gamera says:

i think stupid is binary too.
    u are or u arent.
    there arent degrees of stupid.

  76. darwins says:

Yes there are. Baracky was stupid when he didn’t denounce Wright who thinks white people invented AIDS but he was stupider when he called midwestern peoples Jesus-fellating gun nuts. It’s progressive, the stupid.

  77. gamera says:

darwins…..IDT is to the scientists just like BLT is to the white ppls.
the scientists cant unnerstand how anyone intelligent can believe in it, and the supporters of IDT feel…entitled.
entitled to have IDT get airtime as a science.
an when the scientists wont do it they get pissed.

like some blacks think they are entitled, they are owed things.
and the white ppls are incredulous at wat they think they are entiltled to, like conspiracy theory and ‘merica bashing.

  78. darwins says:

I think scientists could probably maybe consult with a cultural anthropologist if they lack insight into how ID might be an attractive viewpoint to some people. For real it’s not that confuzzling. Jesus loves me this I know for the Bible tells me so. Start there.

  79. gamera says:

    no.
not stupid to the scientists..see? they believe a lot of the same things O said.
it was kinsleyian, when someone says wat they believe on accident.

  80. darwins says:

I think you give scientists a bad rap. It’s not like most of them don’t go home and have happy lives with non-scientists what they bone. I would bet it’s a tiny minority of scientists who have their knickers in a twist about ID.

  81. gamera says:

    no darwins
there a whole lot of them in the movie.

  82. Pablo says:

Why come can’t Ben Stein pretend too?

Exactly. Not having seen it, I’m reluctant to comment on it, but if it looks anything like the criticism I’ve seen of it, I can’t help but wonder about the Andy Kaufman thing. Stein is an awfully bright guy with a great sense of humor.

I probably would have passed on it, but now I’m going to have to see it.

  83. gamera says:

how ID might be an attractive viewpoint
oh scientists know that. but that doesnt mean ID gets to be a science.
scientists know we are hardwired for religion.

sir richard gets mad about that.
he tries to convince ppl religion is stupid and they shud become atheists.
    he proselytizes atheism
    that wont work.

i like dr. atran the best.

  84. Pablo says:

there a whole lot of them in the movie.

    Have you seen it, nishi?

  85. gamera says:

Why come can’t Ben Stein pretend too?

    as u wish.
    /shrug
the derb and dr. yes think he is a fool.
if u give him money will that make u a fool too?

  86. gamera says:

pablo nishi says ur a sciencey guy
she remembers when everyone but u and charles caught that schiavo fever

wat will happen to creationism/IDT when we can make synthetic life with bioassemblers?

  87. darwins says:

How I was reading that the guy sounds like he has much better things to be doing than writing that, if you follow.

  88. darwins says:

    Dr. Atran…

  89. MC says:

In this thread, we actually *do* have turtles all the way down…

  90. gamera says:

nishi wont pay to see it for same reason she didnt pay to see fareinheit911.
    cuz its crap.
shez read enough from ppl that were tricked into appearing in it.
they are pretty much all mad and spend beaucoup time pointin out flaws.
    here’s some stuff
    read this guy too

  91. gamera says:

yup, turtles all the way down.
    ;)

  92. gamera says:

    MC u same question.
wat will happen to creationism/IDT when we can make synthetic life with bioassemblers?

  93. Pablo says:

I think the whole debate is irrelevant as any of the possible outcomes will change very little in the real world. Mostly, I just find it all amusing. The AGW bunk, OTOH, has legions of people looking to crash economies and radically change standards of living based on a bundle of errors and lies. And, it’s being peddled to captive children as indisputable fact when it is demonstrably not. So, there’s a real effect there that warrants concern.

And if I toss $10 in Stein’s direction, I’ll think of you while I’m doing it and that will make me giggle, so it will be money well spent.

  94. Pablo says:

Hmmm. I gave Michael Moore’s money to the Wayans brothers. That made me giggle too.

  95. gamera says:

MC nishi says do u want to know more about Sir Roger?
she has read his theory of consciousness book too, shadows of the mind.
dont tell her i told u..but she works the online problems for the road to reality that come at the end of the chapters …for fun!
she will never get married…she is such a woeful nerd

  96. MC says:

If you are talking about using non-living parts, assembling them won’t produce something living. You’re going to have a challenge with chiralty.

If you mean machines aka Drexler et al, then they’re machines.

If you are talking about using living parts and putting them together with other living parts then you’re just having fun with God’s creation.

What will happen with the theory of evolution when we find a dinosaur in the ice?

  97. Pablo says:

wat will happen to creationism/IDT when we can make synthetic life with bioassemblers?

You mean when we can design and create life? It won’t change a thing about history, which is really what we’re talking about here. A billion plus people are still going to believe this:

He has created man: He has imparted unto him articulate thought and speech. [At His behest] the sun and the moon run their appointed courses; the stars and the trees prostrate themselves [before Him].

  98. gamera says:

MC RNA assemblers will make DNA…we will recreate the organic soup.

It won’t change a thing about history
    no…to you….you pablo.
    will u still believe that?

  99. Pablo says:

    Believe what?

  100. gamera says:

He has created man: He has imparted unto him articulate thought and speech. [At His behest] the sun and the moon run their appointed courses; the stars and the trees prostrate themselves [before Him].

  101. MC says:

Like I said in that Pub thread:

But Sir Roger’s weak AI and non-algorithmic conscious and holds that mathematical proof is sufficient for holding that God created the universe…

Maybe you should argue with him

  102. MC says:

    It won’t change a thing about history…

A dino in the ice you mean? But that’s – ohnoes – 65 million years – poof!

  103. gamera says:

nishi says man cannot acquire wat he cannot use.
that is a Sufi teaching thing.
and that is those believers toolset for approaching god, the bible.

some are born open channel to the Compassionate, the Caring.
    some can achieve open channel.
science is just one part of her toolset.
    ;)

  104. Pablo says:

I’m not a muslim, nishi. Why would I believe that?

  105. gamera says:

but the Divine Beloved creates the metaverses and galaxies and worlds an stars.
    that is our argument.

  106. Pablo says:

    Do you believe it?

  107. MC says:

It really is turtles all the way down in here…

  108. gamera says:

    god/allah/hasem created the Omnium.
    yes.

  109. gamera says:

    hashem

  110. gamera says:

i asked if u believed this
He has created man: He has imparted unto him articulate thought and speech. [At His behest] the sun and the moon run their appointed courses; the stars and the trees prostrate themselves [before Him].

  111. gamera says:

    /yawn

    turtlebedtime

nishi needs to go to tournament realm anyways.

    konban wah…or ohayu, i guess

  112. darwins says:

    ohayutoo

  113. MC says:

    Gambatte…

  114. Pablo says:

I think the origins of our world are, certainly for the time being, beyond our current knowledge and capacity to comprehend. I understand that there are things I just don’t know and I don’t stake out beliefs when I don’t have enough information to support them. I do believe that there’s something bigger than us behind it all, but I’m not going to claim to know the mechanics of the origin of life, nor am I going to believe anyone who claims to unless they’ve got a whole lot more evidence than I’ve ever seen.

  115. MC says:

    hashem…

    Oh, and Gesundheit…

  116. MC says:

And Go’bless darwins. I hope he’s being fed well while master is out…

  117. nishizonoshinji says:

that sillie turtle messed this up again.
    i’ll make it simple.
intelligent design theory is just like black liberation theory

the [scientists][typical white ppl] simply cannot unnerstand how anyone can possibly be so stupid as to believe in [IDT][BLT],
and if those ppl insist on so believing, why on earth should the [scientists][typical white ppl] have to put up with it or have it crammed in their faces?

    meh

  118. nishizonoshinji says:

    black liberation theology, sry

  119. darwins says:

But black liberation theology isn’t crammed in our faces. It scurries under thingses like a cockroach mostly, when it does come out it smiles and says nothing to see here and hides behind contrived masks of “prophetic tradition” and “social justice”. We’re just like you they say. No you’re not you racist culty freaks. You’re vile and hatey and are suborning Christianity for some icky Marxist Blackassed Panther bullshit and Baracky is like yup that’s mah church.

But other than that I kinda see your analogy, but climate change what’s caused by not maintaining proper tire pressure and using the wrong lightbulbs (kinda sorta like how that poor girl used the wrong hangers in Mommie Dearest) is probably a way better analogy.

  120. guinsPen says:

we will recreate the organic soup.

Try this recipe for Turtle soup…a Louisiana specialty!

    1-1/2lbs turtle meat
    2qts beef stock
    2tsp Tabasco
    1 large onion, chopped coarsely
    2 ribs celery, chopped coarsely
    1/4 can tomato puree

Put above ingredients into a 4uart stock pot and bring to a boil. Lower heat to simmer, and cook for 1 hour. Remove meat and de-bone, cut meat in half inch pieces and return to pot.

    Then add:
    2 bay leaves
    2tsp mace
    1-1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
    1/3cup sherry

    Let cook for another hour.

    Then add:

2 hard cooked egg whites chopped
    1/2 cup parsley

    Serve and enjoy!

    Soup’s on!

  121. darwins says:

Turtles carry salmonella you know. Chock full of it really.

  122. Pablo says:

the [scientists][typical white ppl] simply cannot unnerstand how anyone can possibly be so stupid as to believe in [IDT][BLT],
and if those ppl insist on so believing, why on earth should the [scientists][typical white ppl] have to put up with it…

That’s neither sciencey (billions of people believe things without empirical evidence. How/why they do so is knowable. Figure it out, eggheads.) nor free inquiry-y. Why should people have to put up with sciencey beliefs? Because people can hold whatever beliefs they like, that’s why.

  123. guinsPen says:

    Big Turtle shill.

  124. B Moe says:

wat will happen to creationism/IDT when we can make synthetic life with bioassemblers?

I would say the theory had been proven.

  125. darwins says:

See sometimes you’re just brilliant. This is a lot one of those times I think. Not golf-clap brilliant. More like standing ovation brilliant really.

  126. gamera says:

Because people can hold whatever beliefs they like, that’s why.

    hai pablo.
    so desu, she so agrees.
nishi says that is why conspiracy theory. it is a spandrel of religious belief, which was a selection fitness advantage in the EEA.
the biomechanics are more and more understood by those scientists.

the same reason of some blacks believeing whitey made AIDS just for them. the same reason some arabs believe in jewish organ harvesting of pali children. the same reason the twin towers “truthers”.

and ben stein wanting to make christians believe scientists conspiring to keep IDT out of unis.
he doesnt believe it himself because it is a fake-umentary.

  127. gamera says:

    arigato gozaimasen darwins.
    /turtle bow

  128. gamera says:

    B Moes!
    the turing heresy!
if god made man in his image, then man is both a god and has the inherent property to make other gods!

  129. gamera says:

But black liberation theology isn’t crammed in our faces.

    oh yes it is.
infinite loop of youtube, and then msm and lisatypes trying to explain what Cones reall meaned.

  130. B Moe says:

God made all things in his image. How can any creator do otherwise?

  131. McGehee says:

I see Big Threadjack is still cranking away.

  132. gamera says:

and why it is unnerstandable and forgiveable, hehe.
    not unnerstandable, not forgiveable.
conspiracy theory…ppl will still believe in spite of being clobbered with facts.

some studies have been done with mormons, a cuz mormon is relatively fresh history. mormon history conflicts with real data a lots.
even after facts presented, the counterfactual mormon history is retained.

  133. gamera says:

God made all things in his image.
    ur sacred book says that?

  134. gamera says:

    no threadjack msgeehee
we was talkin about how the rightside academics like dr. reynolds and the derb think ben stein is a fool. the derb said ben stein was dishonest and sneaky too.

ekshually dr. reynolds told nishi in a gmail that “it was too bad ben stein was making a fool of himself.”

  135. JD says:

The nsihidiot is apparently arguing with the voices in her head again. Let’s save about 300 comments – wedge strategy. xians are stoopid. 145 IQ. ID bad. My “science” good. Hagee. Baracky makes me wet. Get ur religion out of my government.

  136. darwins says:

Ben Stein made a movie is all. Mr. Reynolds knows how this works I would have thought. If you’re talking about it then Stein is way ahead of the game. Specially with a documentary.

  137. gamera says:

Lots of academics around here, Cleo.
i was refuting SPB premise that rightside academics wud support stein.
    they do not.

  138. gamera says:

    not a documentary, a fake-umentary, darwins.
    zactly like farenheit911.
dr. yes does unnerstand how it works.
that is why he said ben stein makin a fool of himself, like moore did.
    objects of ridicule.

  139. darwins says:

Yeah well you’re nothing until you’re talked about. I heard that on the CW.

  140. gamera says:

wat is the goal of Expelled?
does stein think expelled will open up the unis to discussion of IDT?
no, it is propaganda in the culture wars.
stein wants to make to make christians see that scientists think their pet theory is stupid.

ppl like Francis Collins and Sir Roger Penrose are religious.
    do they support IDT?
    nope.
collins takes a lot of chong for not supporting it.

  141. gamera says:

    nother question:
    did farenheit911 work?
did it plant meme seeds for conspiracy theories?
it F911 mebbe one reason so many americans are against the war?

  142. gamera says:

Expelled is just more identity politics.
nishi thot u guyz despied that.

  143. gamera says:

    well, its tourney time
    nishi is required in azeroth

    bye darwins

  144. JD says:

it is kind of spooky when the resident village idiot starts speaking about herself in the 3rd person.

  145. darwins says:

    bye gamera

  146. Pablo says:

    did farenheit911 work?

Yes, a lot. If Kerry wasn’t such an inept schmuck, he’d be POTUS today.

Expelled is just more identity politics.

    Of what identity?

  147. B Moe says:

    ur sacred book says that?

I don’t have a sacred book. It just seems obvious to me, as I said, how could any creator do otherwise?

  148. gamera says:

oh pablo, i suspected u wud try to get the last word.
    Jesusland identity politics.
    darwin fish identity politics.

dont play stupid pablo nishi says ur very bright.

  149. gamera says:

Alan Turing was quoting the Bible.

  150. Spies, Brigands, and Pirates says:

    nishi says ur very bright

Too bad nishi is an illiterate, lying poseur with NPD

  151. gamera says:

    she told truth here
a gmail that “it was too bad ben stein was making a fool of himself.”
do u want to see the gmail from dr. reynolds, SBP?

  152. Spies, Brigands, and Pirates says:

    she told truth here

    Poseur.
    Fraud.
    Liar.

  153. Pablo says:

So, Ben Stein is engaging in Jesusland identity politics? Kinda odd for a Jew, ain’t it? And given that most Muslims believe mostly the same sort of things, how is it Jesusy? In fact, where does jesus fall into any of this discussion? Hint: He doesn’t.

    So, try again. What identity?

  154. Pablo says:

BTW, political Jesusland is a myth. The sciencey thing too do would be to look at the data.

  155. darwins says:

Ben Stein identified a market and then crafted a documentary for it is what I think.

  156. Slartibartfast says:

Why are we still engaging the nishi-bot? She ran out of new things to say a few thousand comments ago.

  157. MayBee says:

    just an FYI- arigato gozaimasen

-masen is a negative. So what you said approximately was “no thank you very much”.
You mean either arigato gozaimasu or arigoato gozaimashita.

  158. gamera says:

    kk
    nishi sez u wins

    she doesnt belong here
once upon a time this site was gloriously raunchy and fiercely secular…and so funnie.

now the theocon moties have taken over…

    WARNING WARNING WARNING

    praps not.

  159. Rob Crawford says:

GENERAL PRODUCTS HULL ENGAGED IN STASIS MODE

Great. Now the bitch has ruined Niven for me.

  160. Slartibartfast says:

She can’t tell fiction from real life, Rob. She’s an idiot, deserving of no more than a terse dismissal.

“praps” she’s gone for good this time. We can always hope.

  161. B Moe says:

Whatever, all I know me being labeled a theocon is one of the funniest damn things ever.

  162. Spies, Brigands, and Pirates says:

now the theocon moties have taken over…

    Poseur.
    Fraud.
    Liar.

  163. Slartibartfast says:

I wash my hands and my feet of her.

  164. McGehee says:

I notice whenever she loses an argument it’s all “the moties have taken over, this site isn’t as good as it used to be, I’m leaving forever.”

“Forever” doesn’t last very long anymore, does it?
