It said in the article that Vermont has experienced twice the death rate of most of the other states. Interesting.
Yet the death rate of this war is arguably the lost of any war in history. One wonders how Vermont withstood the ~36,000 deaths of Korea, 58,000 deaths of Vietnam, the countless deaths of WWI, WWII, and the Civil War.
It’s amazing how small our sense of history is. Were we to actually know our past, we would be humbled by the sacrifices made, rather than whine of the sacrifices of today.

Actually Vermont has definitely had a higher percent of casualties in most US wars: rural, occupationally bored and they can handle a rifle. Us back-to-the-landers like ‘sugaring’ as we didn’t grow up with it and we “trustfunders” (well, still waiting for that myself) can afford nice Rubba boots but doing it year after year since you were 3 years old in rotten old leathers, getting up at 3 or 4 to tend the cows, and getting swatted in the face w/ a shit covered cow tail at 4:05 makes war look kinda fun. I think we still have the highest percent of weekend warriors too. Including the South. Low wages keeps you looking for that extra income.
