After recent terrorist attacks, Spanish police are in no mood for leniency. This man picked the wrong time and the wrong way to try to support his drug habit.
That’s just not how they would report it if it happened here. More maybe like… after years of fearmongering by the Bush administration, such extreme responses by local police are only expected to become increasingly commonplace…
“tough crap” for the robber, not Sean M.’s problem.
I think the robber wins the ‘Ass Over Tea-Kettle’ Award’ for 2008. (Though we haven’t heard from Australia yet.)
The police would SO get sued here. Remember that bank shootout a few years back near LA, where the robbers had automatic weapons and an enormous amount of ammunition, and the police had to go to nearby gun stores to get better rifles to respond? The family of one of those lowlifes sued the police, saying that, after their little darling had finally been cut down, the cops didn’t get him medical care fast enough.

I remember an Indy cop here offering the comment that the LA cops were idiots. Instead of aiming for head shots they just blasted away.
The cops didn’t get medical attention to those two thugs at the LA shootout fast enough because the two thugs were dead. Bullets to the head tend to do that.
One of them put a bullet in his own head. The other, IIRC, bled out from a wound to the femoral artery — something that Bones McCoy might have been able to stop, but not as likely an EMT who had to be kept away from the scene until the cops were sure there hadn’t been a third gunman.
Seems the event was a tad chaotic while it was going on. Lots of conflicting reports. The kind of thing that happens when everybody has to keep his head down or get it blown off.
That’s why they didn’t get medical attention to the second guy fast enough.
If the Spanish cops are so brave, how come they negotiated? I thought not negotiating was the highpoint of righteousness and the best policy for dealing with miscreants. Sure, the hostages might have died, but we must stand firm and not enter discussions with such people.
Screw that. I say talk first, talk second, talk third, talk until you bore the listeners and they agree to something stupid. The next kidnapping asshole might get a bigger motorcycle or a Smart Fortwo, but the police can probably get a minivan or a small truck to smash into him.
What were the Italian police doing in Spain?
Whoopsie.
And now, my snarky comment makes no sense.
I demand a strikethrough!
I am a witness to it saying Italian before. I’ll back you up.

heh heh
I tried to do the strike-out, but it doesn’t work in the headline field.
Or at least I can’t get it to work.
Nobody’s perfect.
Sounds like a good plan to me.
Obligatory “tough crap” here.

Even though he did not nail the landing, I will give him a 7.5 based on difficulty.

I remember that, John. The robbers were wearing body armor. I hope the case got the short-shrift it deserved.
Sweet.
So…it appears the Spanish police have a lot more backbone than their government.

jon, the Spanish police, how can I say it?
They lied. The negotiations were a ruse, not real.
I reject the entire premise; medical attention arrived as soon as possible. And right on time, not coincidentally.
