Given our esteeemed host’s past plugs for Matt Welch’s Reason piece on John McCain, I note that Welch discusses the issues surrounding McCain’s “Maverick†image and underlying philosophy, the Reform Institute, and more with Will Wilkinson on bloggingheads.tv. It apparently was posted on February 4th, so they do not discuss his sex life.
Although critical of McCain’s general political impulses (as one would expect from Welch and Wilkinson), Welch notes how much of McCain’s appeal to both the public and the press can be found in his general likeability.
Bonus: Mark Halperin prints all the news the New York Times saw fit to omit from its almost-a-sex scandal story dressed up as an almost-an-ethics story.  The material is generally exculpatory and not about sex, thus explaining why the Grey Lady chose to ignore it. Not that it isn’t karma for McCain, but — as Welch and Wilkinson demonstrate — anyone who wants to criticize McCain can find more substantive reasons than the NYT’s unsourced gossip and selective reporting.
(h/t HotAir.)
That it’s “unsourced gossip and selective reporting” won’t stop it from becoming the progressive TRVTH, though.
McCain should be grateful to NYT for not publishing the story in December.
Can M.Romney unsuspend his campaign now?
But it still will not qualify as miracle for Huckabee
McCain’s reaction to the negative press will be more telling, and more consequential in the long run, than the substance of the reports.
