There’s just not much pressure anymore to “be fruitful and multiply”; whether there’s an innate biological trigger level that’s been reached and exceeded, or simply intelligent people looking around and realizing that there’s enough people already, I can’t say. Our family decided one child was enough, for whatever reason(s).
Darleen, I see you’re shocked, shocked that an employer would have the sheer audacity to suggest to a potential hire that that hire could at any time result in a bad investment. And in private circles involving private business contracts, no less.
Good thing we have laws because we surely cannot have folks making arrangements in what they feel are their own best interests. That would be breathtaking.
As to the decline of marriage, maybe we need also laws forcing it. Seems each successful case would inversely affect the pool of bastards in a way nannyists would approve. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, and all that.
Oh, yes, those poor bastards. Far better to have more damaged children from broken marriages. What fun is it to be a kid, if you can’t be used as ammunition in your parents’ interminable war?
