This is kind of interesting set against BMoe’s comment here…
““[High ratings for Fox’s American Idol] cannot solely be explained by technological advances or a regression in human nature. It cannot be a coincidence that television voting rights arose so soon after the 2000 election left slightly more than half the voting population feeling cheated. Those who didn’t go to the polls and fear that their abstention inadvertently made possible the invasion of Iraq may feel even worse. Idol could be a displacement ritual: a psychological release that allows people to vote  and even vote often  in a contest that has no dangerous or even lasting consequences.† New York Times TV reporter Alessandra Stanleyâ€Â
Also it sounds like Alessandra really struggles to get through her days, and you gotta think maybe this tv reporter gig isn’t really very fulfilling for her cause sounds like she’s got an empty empty space she’s trying to fill up.
What’s kooky is that none of the bloggie categories have any particular tension with the MSM, and have basically an organizing principle of reflecting conventional identity groups. Yay go team I guess, but I dunno, just that the format seems divorced from any actual features of blogging as a genre, and if you didn’t know anything about blogging and read the categories you’d still be left with not a whole lot of an idea of what blogs do.

The pop-idol franchise arose on the BBC, I think. In response the monarchy, I suppose.
It appears I myself am unfamiliar with the underpinnings of democracy, it was ITV which originated the suffer-age.
