In “The Big Picture(s),†I noted the case of Bilal Hussein, an Iraqi stringer working for the Associated Press with a history of taking staged photographs of Islamic terrorists, who was detained by the US military as a security threat in April 2006.
In follow-up posts, I have noted that the AP’s coverage of the case has ignored — but demonstrated the wisdom of — the AP policy regarding conflicts of interest.
Apparently, we cannot expect much more from the non-AP coverage of the case. At PowerLine, John Hindraker dissects a piece that ran at Harper’s — and was reprinted excerpted at Editor & Publisher — that smears the US military and was coincidentally authored by Scott Horton – who was, “until January, a partner in the law firm that represents Bilal Hussein — a fact that Horton did not find it necessary to disclose to his readers.”
Update: Confederate Yankee has more on Mr. Horton’s past work. (h/t Memeorandum.)
Hinderacker Hears a Horton? Hmmmm.
It’s too cute how Horton defaults to the AP’s odd little preference of referring to the little terrorist as Bilal instead of the conventional Hussein. It’s good though cause it helps me remember that Bilal is just a man like me, with hopes and dreams. Except with, you know, barbaric terrorist sympathies and a fervid anti-Americanism.
happyfeet,
That tactic is a page right out of Silence of the Lambs.
Damn they’re good.
I’d mention that Princess Buttercup has kicked Spicoli down the hill, but Karl’s got a coupla good posts up.
They’ll still be getting divorced later today, which allows for time to compile Penn’s track record of tying Madonna to a chair and such.
Powerline writes
Of course, no one expects the left-wing E & P to do any critical thinking, let alone investigation.
E&P – isn’t this the outfit that employs the journalist who admitted he made sources and crap up?
It’s pretty clear that Horton is a pompous self-promoting hack.
Why did he leave the firm? What is he doing now? If he didn’t disclose this obvious conflict, can we assume he has another conflict now? Just asking.
clarice,
Have the lambs stopped screaming?
/bet you don’t get that much.
