Racially Charged Confrontations [Dan Collins]

It strikes me as strange that Caric and similar creatures don’t understand how their propagation and maintenance of the subtext contributes to stuff like this:

A jury Saturday convicted a black man of killing a white teen during a racially charged confrontation outside the man’s home despite his claims that he feared a lynch mob had come to attack his family.

Jurors found John White, 54, guilty of second-degree manslaughter in the death of Daniel Cicciaro. White faces a prison term of five to 15 years. He was allowed to remain free on bail until sentencing.

Defense attorney Fred Brewington said White planned to appeal and called the verdict “disappointing for African-Americans” in the area, a predominantly white community on eastern Long Island, near New York City.

  1. McGehee says:

Caricature will of course miss the point and wonder why his crapola can be blamed for that guilty verdict.

Crime? What, there was a crime?

  2. The Jigs Up ∂ says:

Time to call up a jury of his peers. Then he will be given an award for “Citizen of the Year”.

  3. happyfeet says:

The confrontation came after his 19-year-old son, Aaron, was asked to leave a beer bash at a friend’s house. A female guest had complained about a bogus posting on the MySpace Web site claiming Aaron White wanted to rape her.

He denied making the threat but left the party. Cicciaro and his friends then called the teenager on his cell phone to continue the dispute, allegedly making threats that culminated when they arrived at the White home shortly after 11 p.m.

There’s a lot about Long Island that’s just trashy I think and mostly that’s the context I think I see this story in. The whole reality of the lynchy thing is based entirely in the head of a trashy Long Island defense attorney is my guess.

  4. The Jigs Up ∂ says:

I’m guessing that’s a Long Island jewish defense attorney!

  5. SarahW says:

Myspace again. Ick. Well, here’s what, let me be slightly contrarian ( although I agree with the prosecutor that the defendant should have lock his door, and called police, and then shot any of the drunken louts who tried to gain entry in the meantime.) Black guy accused of wanting to rape a white woman? White crowd of low-life louts, essentially chases him home to express its displeasure with the black a guy accused?

I think old-fashioned methods of handling “where the white women at” would have crossed my mind if I were the defendent. I think I would have been afraid of violence. Just saying.

  6. SarahW says:

    Cheezit, I am articulate today.

  7. andy says:

“Caricature will of course miss the point and wonder why his crapola can be blamed for that guilty verdict.”

Thus ushering in a new era of personal responsibility.

  8. The worst thing about this incident is that it happened, not the way it was covered – although the coverage didn’t help. The use of the internet and cell phones as means of bullying + underage drinking: the better technology gets, the worse our culture gets.

  9. Phil Smith says:

Don’t know if race really had anything to do with this, don’t care. Four drunk teenagers show up at my house at 11:30, threatening my teenage son, the shit hits the fan.

  10. happyfeet says:

He was nineteen. That’s practically an adult for most purposes really.

  11. Agreed, Phil. Drunk yoots show up to assault me & mine, they’re asking for whatever they get.

I just thank G-d this happened in Noo Yoik, instead of here, and that the victim was white, else the MSM uproar would never stop.

  12. The Jigs Up ∂ says:

Yeh, shoot, rape, assault, hurl racial insults, happy slap, sucker punch, etc. a white and NO PROBLEM. They caused and asked for all this abuse because of what happened back THEN!

Don’t like it, go back to Europe White Boy!

  13. Mark says:

De white man be oppressin’ de black man.

  14. ThomasD says:

Personally, I feel sorry for the guy. Multiple people came onto his private property with the expressed intent of doing violence to his child.

Try that in my yard and I’ll be armed too. And if you manage to get yourself shot, I’d say you asked for it, and further, since you likely were in the process of committing a felony, that it is your compatriots who should be the ones facing charges.

If I was on his jury? Mistrial at a minimum.

He just had the misfortune of living in a nanny-state jurisdiction. If he lived somewhere sane then perhaps his attorney would have had to resort to such a bullshit defense tactic. Cause, lord knows that common sense just wasn’t going to be allowed in that courtroom.

  15. ThomasD says:

    er,

If he lived somewhere sane then perhaps his attorney wouldn’t have had to resort to such a bullshit defense tactic.

  16. Swede says:

I agree with what some of the others are saying.

Come onto my property and threaten my family with violence?

You’d be right. There’d be violence.

  17. andy says:

“You’d be right. There’d be violence.”

There’s violence in PMITA prison. Acting tough works there too.

  18. Jeff says:

    Some questions:

    (1) Does it matter that “a female guest had complained about a bogus posting on the MySpace Web site claiming Aaron White wanted to rape her?” What if the female lied?

    (2) How should we respond to men who post rape threats on MySpace?

    (3) Clearly, violence is justified when a drunken, angry mob shows up at your door. Does that apply to drunken, angry mobs of Black people? How about just angry mobs of Black people? Does that apply in the many and several “Black riots” that have happened in the last thirty years?

  19. happyfeet says:

I feel bad I called them trashy. Looking at the minutes of the Town Board meetings they seem really like kind of sweet people really. This one’s from December 4…

Supervisor Cardinale: “Thank you. Are there any announcements or committee reports?”

Councilman Densieski: “Yes, Mr. Supervisor, I have one. This Saturday, December 8th, is the 8th annual – I can’t believe it – Riverhead town bonfire and holiday celebration. It takes place on riverfront in downtown Riverhead at 4:00 this Saturday, December 8th. Santa will be coming up the river by boat and taking photographs and having hot chocolate with all the children. So, hopefully, you can all make it. Thank you.”

Supervisor Cardinale: “That’s great. Eight years. And we’re going to continue that tradition and it’s always a good time so, in fact, my grandchildren are going to be in town so we’re going to be there.”

I don’t think we should tell them that Santa doesn’t really use a boat.

  20. McGehee says:

Phew. Did somebody cut an andy? C’mon, own up to it.

  21. Mark says:

In most jurisdictions a citizen is at a real legal disadvantage confronting anyone outside his home with deadly force. If this had been a home invasion, the shooter might have walked. Call the cops, don’t go outside, and kill anyone who breaks in.

  22. Rob Crawford says:

Phew. Did somebody cut an andy? C’mon, own up to it.

    The dog did it.

  23. alppuccino says:

“Call the cops, don’t go outside, and kill anyone who breaks in.”

And don’t forget to attach a “huntercam” to your weapon. Youtube and all that…..

  24. N. O'Brain says:

    The dog smells better.

  25. Mikey NTH says:

Much better than ‘andy’ or ‘Jeff’.

    More honest, too.

  26. Jeffersonian says:

A lot rides on the particulars of the confrontation for me, but making threats to my son and showing up drunk late at night to act on those threats will, at minimum, get you an introduction to Mr. Mossberg. The kid went looking for trouble and, to his surprise, found some.

  27. there is alot more to this story than reported. Do not base anything on the small paragraph you read. I live on long island and there is more to it. Thanks Gene http://NassauCountyBusinessDirectory.com
