Root Cause Redux [Dan Collins]

Splodeydopes:

The family of a suicide bomber who killed 17 U.N. staff in Algiers this week said he joined Islamist rebels after failing to get a taxi license and was motivated by “ignorance, not poverty”, a newspaper reported.

“We got nothing from al Qaeda, we are still very poor,” Bechla Rabah’s oldest son Younes told Echorouk. “Ignorance, not poverty, this is what pushed my father to blow himself up.”

Al Qaeda’s North African wing claimed responsibility for twin car bombs on Tuesday that killed more than 30 people at the U.N. offices and a court building, saying it had targeted “the slaves of America and France”.

One of the splodeydopes was 67 years old according to Gateway Pundit, the Rabha dude. See what happens when you don’t save your social security system. This should serve as a cautionary tale for the dems!

So terrorism is not caused by poverty but by regulatory licensing schemes that raise barriers to entry and restrict competition.

  3. McGehee says:

That’s what Algeria gets for having the UN administer its taxi licensing system.

    What? They don’t?

Well, at least the family wasn’t saying “he’s a hero” or something.

This is truly sad. The killer was in his sixties, in the last stages of cancer, and had no means to support himself. This nothing-left-to-lose state of mind would appear to be al Quaeda’s greatest recruiting tool. I have long gotten the sense that al Quaeda, and to a lesser extent the Taliban, are not so much tapping into a frothing reservoir of islamic fervor and hatred as they are preying on desperate, fearful, and now rootless people.

Not to diminish the horrid acts of the bombers, of course, but I think this underscores the need for Iraq and all the other dysfunctional regimes in the region to solidify their governments and move toward some sense of stability for their people. No outside entity, regardless of how much force it applies, can do this for them.

Hey, if the splodeydope is too old or sick to get it up anymore to they get to save on the virgins in paradise? I’m not sayin’ sixties is too old or anything, I’m just wondering about the theological ruling. The virgins might also not be too excited about some skanky old scaly skinned wart covered toothless splodey dopes neither. He didn’t exactly look like Fabio, but then again most of them don’t. Just sayin’.
