“Tennessee was already replacing its social studies materials this fall, so high school and middle school students in the state will be using textbooks revised to reflect the attacks and subsequent war,” CNN reports.
“Advance copies arrived last week at the state Department of Education, ready for perusal by state and local educators.”
The books discuss Osama bin Laden, al-Qaida and Afghanistan. One includes a mini-biography of former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani.
They also mention the anthrax scare, quote President Bush’s ‘We will not falter’ speech and describe the nationwide rush to donate money and blood.
Textbooks from all four major U.S. textbook publishers use the famous photograph of firefighters raising the American flag above the rubble of the World Trade Center.
Reportedly, all the firefighters in that famous photograph have retained their original hue, and the flag itself hasn’t been cropped out of the frame!
…Maybe 9/11 really was a watershed moment for Americans….

Thanks for the citation to my website on this story. I am a sophmore in college, so I haven’t had any kids yet, but it is strange to imagine how my future children and grandchildren will view the events of September 11th. Great site, by the way.
Let’s hope our kids and grandkids will view the events from a comfortable and free vantage point, Kyle.
Keep up the nice blog work. (And sorry—but I’m a Maryland fan!)
