Beauchamp Update
08.10.07 — 3:29PM
By Josh Marshall
If you’ve been following the Scott Thomas Beauchamp Affair, I strongly recommend reading the latest update from The New Republic. The short version is that the Army’s investigation of the case appears to be confined to a) releasing no information about their investigation or details of its findings, b) leaking alleged details to the Weekly Standard, which no one will confirm on the record and c) keeping Beauchamp himself in communications lockdown where no one but family members in monitored conversations can communicate with him.Perhaps Beauchamp made this stuff up. And that’s not a throwaway line; I freely concede it may turn out to be the case. There’s no getting around the fact that the legacy of the Glass Affair puts an extra hurdle of credibility in TNR’s way.
But the behavior of the Army Public Affairs Office suggests that what they are pushing is not an investigation that would pass any muster in the light of day but a war against a particular article and publication.
And not to put too fine a point on it, but going back over recent years — the WMD stories, al Qaeda link, the Iraq War and more — when you’ve got the goods, you take it to a real press outlet. When you’re blowing smoke, you take it to the Standard.
And Beauchamp himself? Are you claiming outright that he’s not being permitted to share his thoughts, you liar? Is he being held incommunicado enough to revise his Facebook page or chat with a blogger over there? Has Elspeth been let go, or not? You’re a slime merchant.
Article available to subscribers only.
Oh, wait! This article’s 2 months old and it’s still the latest from TNR.
Three days old, but Bryan at Hot Air has a very interesting article on the Israeli raid on Syria, and some interesting conjectures.
Well, that’s why Marshall’s not a journalist. Although I’m sure that he’d like to be.
The intro states that they’ve verified Beauchamp’s account with 5 soldiers who were in his company. I wonder whether any of those will come forward.
This is all from August. I am not very plussed.
Oh, goody. More bullshit.
Is anyone surprised?
Even journalists are not journalists these days.
Oh fer….Come ON?? It’s been disproven that his accounting could conceivably be accurate….WHY in Gaias’ name would some 5th rate jackass want to continue the story line?
One idea…MM or soros is paying him to??….have they sunk that far??
WAY OT……Sox won tonight…3rd sweep of a series this year. (and no JD,not yet) Has there ever been a complete sweep of all 4 series?
And for you fanatics, I’m reserving my “Protein” for when the Yankees lose…as a diehard Sox fan?? Doesn’t matter if we win,it’s just that THEY lose…..
I can’t help but feel there’s a mistake here somewheres.
Oh. I see. Was that there this whole time? I think I’ll just lift heavy things for a little bit.
Wait? Are you saying that this isn’t the latest from TNR on the subject, hf?
No, but it was the punchline. I was just hoping it would be a troll who blew the whistle first.
No – I just… this is all just very high-concept for me right now.
Oh. I suck.
You define the “New Masculinity”. Don’t feel bad. There are lots of us.
geez, hf–a little hard on yourself?
Ummm….Happy? This IS actually hi concept for me,I know it’s not for you….am I missing an inside joke somewhere?
And then PW’s meta-meta-meta-meta^n analysis entered the singularity …
…and consumed itself
…and consumed itself
followed by a bag of Doritos and a six pack of MGD…
I didn’t know Mountain Dew even had a middle initial.

This whole episode is quite strange, but then again, so am I.
Something strange is going on, and it must be pretty serious to have even Obama saying – “When it comes to Iraq, we’ll just have to wait and see” (paraphrase).
Huh? Jeebus, WTF?
When even the socialists get on board, there is something cooking. Or as my son would say in his latest phase: “Something cocking”

This could be a double post, ’cause I don’t see my first try…
Yup.
Sure was…
Blitz – I have been listening to that Steve Goodman song about the Cubbies all weekend. D-bax sweep the Cubs. Just wait ’til next year – 100 YEARS !!!
P.S. Your Pats have to come to our house this time around. Colts should be 8-0 by then.
JD? as much as I luv ya(like a VIKING dude) I gotta say that we’re relaoded….So may GAIA have mersy on Manning….And if you want a TRUR song to stick in your head……I LOVE YOU YUO LOVE ME…W’re a happt family…..OH GOD……STICK A FORK IN MY HEAD PLEASE!!!!
Ok….that HAS to be a personal best for most typos in a post
Pretty sure that even Major John can’t top THAT one!!!
Do they still play the blues in Chicago, when baseball season comes ’round? When the snow melts away, do the Cubbies still play in that ivy covered burial ground? When I was a boy they were my pride and joy, but now they only bring fatigue, to the land of the brave, and the home of the free, and the doormat of the National League.
Blitz – The Pats are loaded, but Moss will be Moss’ eventually. Ours is probably the best healthy rivalry in the NFL right now, and I hope the press stays with the Pats when they arrive in Indy with both teams undefeated, and then when the Pats return in January for the playoffs.
It’s all Dallas this year. Moss’s hamstrings haven’t lasted an entire season since he was in Minnesota. Indy is too weak on D and has a finesse offense. Face it, Peyton will look like Eli against a physical team like Dallas.
That is what they say every year, thor. Our soft “D” is in the top 10 in the entire league. We have no problem with physical teams, just ask NE, Baltimore, the Bears, etc …
Now, re-insert your love tool in Vick’s mouth ;-)
“Pretty sure that even Major John can’t top THAT one!!!”
Syas yuo!
Actually, the “latest” from TNR was Eve Fairbanks’ attempt to take Rush Limbaugh to task for speaking out about phony soldiers.
For more background, google “Fairbanksing” or consult the Urban Dictionary.
Thor- Indy’s defense is looking real good right now,and lets face it, Dallas and the Pats haven’t really played anyone yet…I’d say the same for Indy, but the Bucs are a real good defensive team. Of the 2, Indy scares me more but we’ll see next week with the ‘Boys.
oh,anfd Mjaro Jogn? Sayes em!!
I love your thoughts! I normally don\’t even bother to leave comments, but I wanted to let you know that you hit the nail on the head!
