More "free exchange of ideas"

Via LGF and PJM, news that protesters are being removed from the area around ground zero:

Andrew Marcus – on video assignment for PJM – reports that the Port Authority evicted protesters from Ground Zero this morning. Group – including family members of 9/11 victims – was in front of the PATH station protesting possible appearance at Ground Zero by Ahmadinejad.

I can’t say that I blame the Port Authority.

After all, how can a civilized country claim to foster debate and support the free exchange of ideas if a bunch of loud-mouthed dissidents plan to gum up the works with all their un-nuaned kvetching.

Idea: instead of removing protesters forcefully, try luring them away with promises of free donuts. I hear an old-folks home upstate might have some to donate for the cause of protecting our FREEDOM to remain shielded from criticism!

Queer Conservative is live blogging the thing. I don’t know how often he is going to update: http://queer-conservative.blogspot.com/2007/09/live-blogging-ahmadinejads-appearance.html

Apparently Bollinger acquitted himself quite nicely, and basically tore Ahmencrazyeyes a new aresehole in the introduction.

  3. Jeff G. says:

So what? Why are we even giving this guy a platform?

Bollinger hasn’t acquitted himself well. He’s just doing the necessary posturing to legitimize this horrific exercise in “confronting” a Mullah’s puppet. After which the big wigs will shake his hand and share some cocktail wieners with him.

Note: If the Truthers are correct and the Jewish money cabal took down the World Trade Center but still manged to truck the gold out of building 6 without John McClane noticing then why don’t they put a bullet in this guys head while he’s in the US to perpetuate the who “get the US to wipe out the middle east for us” plan? If nothing else, one of those Loose Change idoits should take a shot so that they can do a sequel.

I hope the wieners are pork, because I’m petty like that.

I don’t understand why Bollinger didn’t take advantage of all the press this week, or earlier even, to get his message out about the contempt he has, you know, in his heart, for Ahmadinijad. It can’t be healthy to stifle such strong feelings for so long, bless his heart.

Any hostile questions Ahmanutjob gets asked will either be edited out of the international coverage, or spun as “hostile”, bordering on “racist”. What the Iranian people — and most of the Muslim world, for that matter — will see is his being cheered and adored by Americans.

As good as Bollinger was, it won’t matter. Iranian/islamist/anti-American media won’t show it. They have their clip… Ahmadinnerjacket honored by speaking by invitation at an ostensible prestigious American University …

and being applauded by the students.

Indeed, in the Q/A session the students applauded the little dictator’s “final solution” of the question of “the problem that began 60 years ago”

the ONLY time they laughed derisively at whackjob was when he said “homosexuals don’t exist” in Iran.

See? Deny gays and the Enlightened will know you’re a liar …. advocate murdering Jews? Not so much.

When were they protesting? I was there between 9 and 9:30 and didn’t see a thing.

    Was it later?

Anyone else see this from Roger Kimball? Glenn Reynolds linked it yesterday. I have a hard time seeing Bollinger’s comments as anything more than subterfuge, especially after a perusal of the contents of the campus watch survey of Columbia.

This month police aggressively broke up a rally in Brussels commemorating the aniversary of the 9/11 attacks. The mayor was concerned that Muslims would be offended.

American officials remove Americans from the site of an American tragedy brought on by Terrorists, for fear they might confront a… Terrorist.

Jeff G. – I am not suggesting that Mahdi should have been given a platform. Quite the contrary. Personally, since his prior actions have shown his disdain for international diplomatic laws, we should have taken him into custody, for his role in the kidnappings, as well as for providing arms to our enemies during a war.

  15. dicentra says:

See, asking Ahmadinejad hard questions is no big deal. He can say whatever he wants in response, and there aren’t a bunch of fact-checkers sitting there to verify his answers. He “stood up to” the evil Americans and came out smelling like a rose. Let’s give him more opportunities to speak, by all means.

    BECAUSE OF THE MALIGNANT NARCISSISM.

  16. JD says:

dicentra – He really did not answer any of those hard questions, did he? I cannot wait to see how Al-Jajihad and the Tehran Times reports on this.

  17. Ric Locke says:

JD, a nitpick: Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is not “Mahdi”. It’s not a nickname or pet name.

“The Mahdi” (article and capitalization required) is the Messiah-equivalent of the particular Shi’ia subsect called “twelvers”. Ahmadinejad believes that The Mahdi will appear and lead Shi’ia Islam to domination of the world, or (in his terminology) to leading everyone to a proper appreciation of the power and glory of God. Calling Ahmadinejad “Mahdi” is roughly equivalent to calling, say, Fred Phelps “Christ”.

As I said elsewhere, he should be informed that The Mahdi is alive and well, and will shortly be promoted to Captain in the U.S. Marine Corps. The Jews didn’t get what they expected, either.

    Regards,
    Ric

Ric – Point taken. I caught that from your post yesterday, and thought I could pseudo-comically conflate the 2. As usual, my attempts at comedy fall well shy of the target.
