Self-Authenticating Authenticity from Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estes [Dan Collins]

Reinforcing the self-mythologization at every opportunity:

Trained in analytic psychology and growing up in an old world ethnic tradition steeped in storytelling, I was hired a decade and then some ago, to analyze a season’s worth of campaign ads and then to speak to designers, art directors and candidates-to-be about authentic symbolism in putting out their messages in graphics, writing, film and audio… as opposed to contrived symbolism. I’ve consulted in one direction or another or all, ever since.

She is the last survivor of the lost Druidical colonies of the shores of Lake Michigan who spoke in Runic. The first sentence is just genius:

It looks like we’re in for another season of campaign ads that accidentally entertain without meaning to . . .

Meanwhile, Jane Hamsher tosses a horse head into Elizabeth Edwards’s bed:

So I was really disappointed today to read at Taylor Marsh’s place that you had joined with Diaper Dave Vitter and John “McCarthy” McCain to attack MoveOn. We (and by that I mean the netroots) defend you when the MSM try to make your campaign a pinata over stupid, insignificant stuff. When they try to say your race should end because of your illness, but don’t say squat about Fred Thompson’s lymphoma. We’re your first line of defense, the only messaging machine that progressives have.

So here’s the rule. You never repeat right wing talking points to attack your own, ever. You never enter that echo chamber as a participant. Ever. You never give them a hammer to beat the left with. Just. Don’t. Do. It.

Capisce?

  1. Speak up Dan. Crap. I CAN’T HEAR YOU.

  2. - You know, I have no dog in this fight, its true, but even so if I was Mrs Edwards, never mind my hubby is a total jackass, I’d tell Mz Hampster in no uncertain terms to go fuck herself. From the tone of that hedonistic missive, I’d say we finally see a case where the phrase “little Eichmanns” actually applies.

    – I hope for the sake of the future of the Democratic party they have enough sense to dump this clump of morons.

  3. It’s amazing that Sgt. Gleen had time to write that column, what, with all the hunting for Osama in the REAL WAR that he volunteered for and all.

  4. Has Liz Edwards acknowledged her ownership by Hamster and the “fembloggers” at racistdogfakes yet? The episode with Amanda of the milky loads was embarrassing enough, but Jane telling her to recognize her betters and owners, step’n fetch it, shows the more arrogant side of the nutroots.

Why does Gleen bother writing anymore if he is reduced to poor versions of character assassination rather than substance in his posts. Does anybody but the legally retarded take him seriously these days or do they read him more for amusement as those I presume on this site.

  5. “So here’s the rule. You never repeat right wing talking points to attack your own, ever. You never enter that echo chamber as a participant. Ever. You never give them a hammer to beat the left with.”

‘What you do, is portray your opponent in blackface. Because that just SCREAMS “original thought”‘

  6. Greenwald’s MoveOn ad post in a nutshell:

The supremely important MoveOn.org advertisement…For those who think — for some indiscernible reason — that it is important enough to spend the energy developing an opinion on the MoveOn ad…It really is the height of strangeness to witness the shrieking and self-righteous rage over the MoveOn ad…The whole MoveOn “controversy” is, of course, nothing more than a petty and worthless distraction…all one hears from the Joe Kleins and Chris Matthews is deep concern over whether an ad from MoveOn was a naughty thing. In one sense, it’s just the John Edwards Haircut Story of this week from our vapid chattering class…As I indicated, there are probably reasonable arguments to make on both sides of that issue if one actually thinks (for reasons I cannot discern) that debating the phraseology of a single MoveOn ad merits such contemplation…Whether one thinks the MoveOn ad was well-done or not — and, again, who really cares?

  8. Authentic versus contrived symbolism… so is what she’s saying… that… innovation is forbidden?

Or, on the other hand, is she just looney-tunes?

As far as Hamster is concerned, what did you expect, a rubber biscuit?

  9. As far as Estes goes, I’m saying her tale is bullshit. As far as Hamsher goes, I’ve never seen her be quite so explicit about her position before.

  10. Hamsher forgets that the other America has already sent a nutroots heroine packing, hat in hand for, well, being part of the nutroots.

Do you really think they give even a little bit of a shit about you, Jane? You’re only useful if you’re a tool, sweetheart. Ned Lamont could explain it further, I’m sure.

  11. Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estés? Are you kidding? With a name like that, she could play the Margaret Dumont role in “Duck Soup”:

    http://www.movieactors.com/characters/freezes1/ducksoup189.jpeg

I can see Rufus T. Firefly leering at her and not so subtly hinting, “Have you ever engaged in pre-marital hegemonic discourse?”

  12. How DARE you question their treason!

“…when the wind is southerly I know a hawk from a handsaw.”

  13. As far as Estes goes, I’m saying her tale is bullshit.

If she didn’t write that Wikipedia entry herself, she’s got some stalker-quality fanboys.

  14. That Wiki entry could be subtitled: Unaware of Irony

  15. What a piece of work is Jane! how wanting in reason! how defective in faculty! in thought and morals how obtuse and despicable! in action how like a harpy! in cluelessness how like a dolt!

  16. BTW, does anyone else think that “pinkola” sounds like a word that Archie Bunker would use?

It’d be a great brand name for a jukebox that contains nothing but songs about “social justice”.

  17. Or for a juicebox, SBP. Love the Hamlet riff, BTW.

  18. We (and by that I mean the netroots)

I’m beginning to think the reason Digby couldn’t find any singular “netroots” that promotes a singular message, she didn’t really look all that hard.

  21. “She is the last survivor of the lost Druidical colonies of the shores of Lake Michigan who spoke in Runic.”

When was de last time you been to dah U.P.,eh?*

    *Approximation of genuine Yooper-speak.

  22. But seriously, in response to Glen – what is the difference between laughing at a vanity that has occurred, and noting an accusation of lying before the accused has spoken? Do you know the difference, counselor?

In response to Jane – way to keep those troops in line, ma’am. Way to broadcast to the whole world that you see yourself as Edger Bergen and John Edwards as an up-market Mortimer Snerd. Perhaps this whole ‘Bush is a puppet’ thing is merely a case of projection? If you see your candidates as puppets then it isn’t surprising that you view all candidates as puppets, is it?

Question to Ned Lamont – how did you get your clothes on over those strings? Just curious.

  23. “In response to Jane – way to keep those troops in line, ma’am. Way to broadcast to the whole world that you see yourself as Edger Bergen and John Edwards as an up-market Mortimer Snerd.”

But in this case, Jane has her hand up Mortimer’s ass.

  24. I haven’t heard much of Dr. Clarissa since reading “women who run with the wolves”

“Whether one thinks the MoveOn ad was well-done or not — and, again, who really cares?”

I care. The Code Pinkers were literally manhandled out of the Congressional Gen. Petraeus hearings.

Kicking and screaming, in some cases.

CP’ers, A.N.S.W.E.R, moveon.org, their motives and agendas can be and are different from what the superficial appearances and claims might be.

  25. They should have been pighandled out of there. Hook through the nose and everything.

  26. “The Code Pinkers were literally manhandled out of the Congressional Gen. Petraeus hearings.”

I think you have to be a man first for that to qualify.

“CP’ers, A.N.S.W.E.R, moveon.org, their motives and agendas can be and are different from what the superficial appearances and claims might be.”

They can be, but the fact of the matter is that those who run these organizations share a similar philosophy of Smurf-village utopianism that makes them inherently hostile to anything that smacks of federalist, free-market principles. In substance, the causes they promote are really not at all different from the leftist activism of communists, social anarchists, and cultural elitists that permeated our society from the Progressive era through the beginning of the Second World War. So to draw a common association between these groups based on their shared values and philosophy, if not their respective agendas, is not out of line.

  27. “First of all — I don’t care if John Kerry was eating live babies on TV, one week out from an election you do not repeat GOP talking points. Ever.”

She’s actually proud of writing that.

  28. When was de last time you been to dah U.P.,eh?*

I speak Yuper. How’s about a pastie, eh?

Odd thing about Greenwald’s writing; he’s probably been doing it all along, but I just now noticed that his individuals frequently tend to be plural.

If you don’t know what I’m talking about, ask the Glenn Greenwalds and Jane Hamshers to explain it to you. I think the Fred Kagans and the Chris Matthews and the Joe Kleins already have it figured out.

So far, there’s only one of me, thank God.

“I think you have to be a man first for that to qualify.”

    No, you don’t.

    (points is points)

  31. “So to draw a common association between these groups based on their shared values and philosophy, if not their respective agendas, is not out of line.”

I agree that there is a common association in the agendas and motives of the groups I named.

And that your statement of (the unifying) philosophy holding them together is largely correct.

That was my point, which I didn’t make clearly…that there is a unifying philosophy or agenda (among these groups) that is likely very different than whatever the immediate object of protest (e.g. “the war”) might be.

There is also more to the “global warmism” movement…There being an implicit attack on markets, trade & capitalism (identical to “communism”) which draws many to the cause.
