Yep, the usual Leftists see fit to take the singular act of evil committed in Colorado and shoehorn their own shibboleths into it:
Of all the political angles that might be played in connection with the Aurora theater shooting, surely racism would be a card too far, right?
Wrong. Subbing for Ed Schultz on MSNBC tonight, Michael Eric Dyson managed to suggest that James Holmes would have attracted the attention of the authorities earlier had he been, yup, “a Muslim or another minority.”
MICHAEL ERIC DYSON: You know, what strikes me here of course [Ed.: of course!], is that when you hear the epithets being hurled on either side about politicization of this issue, we know at the end of the day if that kind of amassing and stockpiling of that kind of, you know, potential to hurt people through that, you know, those bullets and those guns and the gasses and the bombs and the like, if this had been stockpiled by a person who was more likely to look reasonably offensive: a Muslim or another minority, do you think that the red flag would have gone up sooner than with this seemingly innocent young white man, who under cover and protection of appearing normal, was out to do some heinous deeds.
Not to be left out, our own Miss Mandy, Twit of the Day, takes a cue from Precious Ezra Klein — that somehow any history over 100 years old doesn’t exist outside of what stories she can invent …
The Koskiddies make this about, I kid you not, White Male Privilege
The freedom to kill, maim, commit wanton acts of violence, and to be anti-social (as well as pathological) without having your actions reflect on your own racial group, is one of the ultimate, if not in fact most potent, examples of White Privilege in post civil rights era America. Instead of a national conversation where we reflect on what has gone wrong with young white men in our society–a group which apparently possesses a high propensity for committing acts of mass violence–James Holmes will be framed as an outlier.
For a hammer, everything is a nail — and certainly these headcases aren’t filled with brains.
I have 15 gallons of gasoline on hand for the generator, as well as a collection of empty wine bottles and assorted shop rags. Guess that makes me a potential bomber.
The National Firearms Act, restricting sale and transfer of automatic weapons, short barreled shotguns, and destructive devices, was passed into law in 1934.
Who knew desegregation started so early?
That Mandy, smart as a whip that one is.
Amanda is just your garden-variety vacuous twit. Why on Earth would anyone concern themselves with what she says?
Squared for dKos. Although the guy does make some good points about white guys with guns, I thought it was racist to correlate propensity for criminal action with race.
One crazy white psychopath shows the propensity of young white men to commit mass violence. Ten thousand gang bangers shooting each other and their neighbors on a nightly basis across the country’s big cities? Nothing to see here…
And here I thought that gun control became an issue because white liberals were soft on (black) crime, and it was costing them elections.
The media never misses an opportunity to make an already controversial topic – more controversial. The “Gun Rights” angle is too obvious, now racism, that’s an issue everyone can be angry about. It’s also an agenda they’ve been pushing since before election season began.
Squid
the gangbangers can’t help it … just give ’em a [Gov] job at $25/hr and they’ll stop.
Major Nidal Hasan.
No. It was liberal pity the poor criminal policies that caused government to stop protecting all Americans. Fortunately, the guns were already there for people wanting to protect themselves.
As for the Kos kiddies, I’m sure that it’s also white male privilege that keeps urban yutes killing each other, despite all the consciousness raising candlelight vigils, gangland summits and midnight basketball leagues.
Gun sales up since tragedy
Racists.
Jill Lepore says it “calibre”, for the faux sophistication of it all.
Other than that: tl;dr. I stopped when she pulled the trick with civilian gun ownership, which she then further contorted to make the case that America is much more crazy than e.g. Switzerland.
Marcooch has it backwards: gun control began as an issue in the U.S. because white segregationists didn’t want black people getting their hands on guns.
There may be a certain point here that it’s much easier for random, disorganized mentally disturbed people can more easily get their hands on firearms when they’re legal because obtaining an illegal gun entails planning and risk.
So. If anyone was making that point, that one might actually be worth considering. But it sort of focuses attention away from the organized sociopaths and the dangers they pose.

Marcotte would never let anything as untidy as facts sway her opinions.
Fixed.
Are these people functionally retarded? That Kos piece is just too much.
In the aftermath of the shooting, my husband and I looked at each other and mentioned that the death total is pretty equal to a week of killings in Detroit, or a bad weekend in Chicago.
Mass killers may be overwhelmingly white, but the mass of killers are black. As are the victims.
WTF is wrong with these people. I don’t think they really want to have a conversation about the role of race in the act of murder.
[…] Darleen Click at Protein Wisdom makes the same point, and delineates a growing meme in the left-o-sphere that James Holmes was acting out of White Male Privilege. […]
Why isn’t the response to her simply, “shut up, you ignorant slut”?
The reality is that gun control was the racist policy — intended to disarm the BLACK Republicans who were entirely too successful defending their rights against the Democrat Klan.

Get with the program Carin. Eric Holder said we were a nation of cowards. Case closed.
– The civil rights uprisings across America in the 50’s and 60’s were caused to a large extent by Southern Dems unwilling to vote in laws in Congress.
– The police were not able to control the rioting, so in every case the National Guard was called in.
– White Anerica did not “arm up” suddenly for any reason. America has always been armed to the teeth, much less so today.
– Ms Mopface should spend less time worrying about Congress making off with her womb and avail herself of some US History remedial reading.
I read somewhere yesterday that there is a Military presence in the city of St. Louis. Scholars, I thought this was illegal in peacetime.
It’s only illegal if they’re engaged in law enforcement activities absent a suspension of posse comitatus.
Insert standard disclaimer here.

– As far as the Koskiddies agitprop piece, its a non-starter.
– Gun ownership is a right not a privalege, and a right for all citizens, not just the racists on the Left.
– Outside of the racist groups on the Left and among minorities, the race card is all but gone, but the Left clings to it bitterly because without it they become largely irrelevant.
And just this week, there was a horrific highway smash-up in South Texas – fourteen killed when the driver of an extended-cab pickup truck lost controll and smashed into some trees. There were 23 illegals crammed into the cab and bed of the pickup.

Curiously, I hear no uproar suggesting limits on extended-cab pickup trucks.
I guess we’re picking up the tab for the life flight and the hospitals?

Amanda is ignorant of history but wishes to lecture everyone about it based on her hunches and assumptions that stem from her prejudices. Great. Totally worthless, and embarrassing for her, but great.
Darleen, I think you’re being kind.
Amanda deserves the “twit of the year” award that piece of stupidity.
I got in a good one on dearest Amanda just yesterday. Of course she blocked me. )
Hopefully, this case doesn’t turn out to be another case of that danged “white male privileged” and white folks committed vast acts of mass violence.
