"Obama says he cannot guarantee Social Security checks will go out on August 3"

CBS News:

President Obama on Tuesday said he cannot guarantee that retirees will receive their Social Security checks August 3 if Democrats and Republicans in Washington do not reach an agreement on reducing the deficit in the coming weeks.

“I cannot guarantee that those checks go out on August 3rd if we haven’t resolved this issue. Because there may simply not be the money in the coffers to do it,” Mr. Obama said in an interview with CBS Evening News anchor Scott Pelley, according to excerpts released by CBS News.

Of course, Obama must be aware that there will be money in the coffers, because I’m aware of it, and I’m not even a “professional politician” whose “job it is” to know these things so that people like me don’t have to worry our li’l dullard’s heads over such complicated big boy stuff.

And surely CBS News must be aware that there will be money in the coffers, because I’m aware of it, and I’m not a professional journalist, whose job it is to present the facts to us so that we can make informed decisions and adopt informed positions.

All of which leads me to believe that both the President and CBS news are, you know, lying through their fucking partisan Marxist pie holes.

The Obama administration and many economists have warned of economic catastrophe if the United States does not raise the amount it is legally allowed to borrow by August 2.

And many economists have argued the opposite, basing their arguments on real data and the Constitutional mandates laid out to protect against such a default — something that CBS News evidently believes its readers don’t need to know, the poor ill-informed dears.

Lawmakers from both parties want to use the threat of that deadline to work out a broader package on long-term deficit reduction, with Republicans looking to cut trillions of dollars in federal spending, while Democrats are pushing for a more “balanced approach,” which would include both spending cuts and increased revenue through taxes.

And by “balanced approach,” the President — and CBS News too, I’m guessing, given that they didn’t feel the need to have that clarified — means that those who keep the economy afloat should be forced to pay more of their money to the federal government, who will likely use it to continue funding things like the EPA, an agency that is working actively to suppress oil exploration and electricity production, therefore driving up prices on everything from gas to food to clothing. At the end of which, these overtaxed “millionaires and billionaires” are presumably to turn around and begin hiring.

— Which, that seems kinda strange, doesn’t it — or at least, dubious enough that you’d think CBS News might ask questions?

But they don’t and won’t, not because they are incurious (although that has something to do with it), but rather because they think of their job as being an activist arm of progress, and they can only identify progress if it’s helpfully labeled for them by the leftist ruling class who relies on this useful idiots, and can buy them relatively cheaply — for access and the occasional party invite.

Face it: the mainstream media is a propaganda arm of the Democratic socialists and should from here forward be treated as such. And when the second revolution comes, these useful idiots had better put on a helmet like everyone else, because their appeals to neutrality, traditionally granted the journalist class, sure as hell aren’t going to fly come USA Mach II.

I’m 51 and my retired mother works some temporary jobs so that she and her retired husband can go on cruises and vacation in Hawaii. How she spends her years after 60 and how I will be able to is so vastly different it’s amazing.

I don’t expect to ever be able to retire in the way she can.

    Other things Obama can’t guarantee:

    — Global temps and sea levels will fall.
    — Gay soldiers will be issued special rainbow patches for their uniforms.
    — The sick and the old will be healed at a fraction of current health care costs.
    — Our rivals and allies around the world will respect and admire us.
    — Joe Biden will say something profound.

    – That the NFL will play a full season.

    Economic catastrophe is the goal.

One might point out how it is he is completely disingenuous EVEN WHEN HE’S TELLING THE G*D’s HONEST TRUTH…. but that would be real fish/barrel stuff, wouldn’t it?

We are in a lot of trouble.

  9. Obama can’t guarantee that the Executive branch will do anything remotely like their jobs. But a tee time? That’s an absolute lock…

Cowboy, my Dad worked at one of the first companies to introduce a 401k style program back in 1972 – 73 or so, and took full advantage. He and my mother have no worries. He effectively retired at 55 or so.

(My mother made him take a second job so he’d stop rebuilding their house for something to do; he went to work for their state’s workman’s comp division, where he became famous after less than a year for telling the director, in response to one of those “How could we improve the department” questions, “You could drop the whole thing in the river and no one would notice the ripple.” I come by my misanthropy by inheritance…. OTOH, he was good enough that he kept working there another 12 years until 70)

He understands that I’ll never be able to retire.

Marco Rubio was on Hugh Hewitt’s yesterday and said something interesting …

With O! threatening to cut off SocSec payments maybe that will FOCUS seniors on the fact that all that money they have been led [by the nose] to believe was in an account for them – 40 or 50 years of 10-15% of their earnings force ably taken each payday – is not there. It’s gone, the government spent it and now seniors have to realize they are living on their kids and grandkids earnings right now.

FOCUS? I know POTUS, FLOTUS, SCOTUS, SOCOM…but I’ll be gee-diddly-darned if I can identify FOCUS.

    I need coffee.
