Irony

K.I.D.S. Act co-sponsor, Anthony Weiner, “Protecting Children On the Internet”:

In early 2007 my office did a study that found that over 85% of registered sex offenders in New York City live less than five blocks from schools, and 670 sex offenders live within just two blocks. Some offenders are even closer, permanently residing less than 500 feet away from unwitting parents, educators and children.

Along with several colleagues in Congress, we introduced & passed the KIDS (Keeping the Internet Devoid of Sexual Predators) Act of 2007, a bill to require sex offenders to register their e-mail and instant message addresses with the National Sex Offender Registry. The “Kids Act’ implemented one of my six recommendations to keep a closer eye on sex offenders both near school grounds and online. I also proposed stricter GPS tracking of sex offenders, tougher enforcement of registration laws and more public disclosure of sex offender data.

Sadly, the Internet is the predator’s venue of choice today. We need to update our strategies and our laws to stop these offenders who are a mere click away from our children.

However, once our kids turn 18 — or, at least, once they’re willing to claim such on their Facebook page or Twitter account — it’s open season for electronic dissemination of Congressional cock pics.

And phone sex with girls you met on line — beating off through the comfort of convenience of a Congressional switchboard — why, that’s just part of the new monogamy.

Really. We need to have a conversation.

This House investigation is going to get interesting, because while Pelosi called for it she does not get to control it anymore. What will they find?

Hence the reason even blovitator and chronic fuckhead Ed Schultz is now calling for Weiner to resign. http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2011/06/06/msnbcs_ed_schultz_to_anthony_weiner_resign.html

  2. Joe says:

I am sure this whole mess started from Weiner trying to twitter one handed.

  3. Squid says:

Only 85%? I didn’t think there was an apartment building anywhere in the city that was more than five blocks from a school.

  4. Joe says:

Good point Squid. I suspect the 15% are in Staten Island. There the sex offenders and child murderers camp out in the woods around the old Willbrook Hospital. Where is Geraldo Rivera when you need him?

  5. Joe says:

    Willowbrook Hospital

  6. JHoward says:

Was Anthony’s weiner sadly residing within 500 feet of that chick’s inbox?

  7. Ernst Schreiber says:

The call for an ethics investigation is to provide other House dems a ready-made excuse for not talking about Wiener. It’s the ol’ Clinton era, “We can’t talk about the subject of an ongoing investigation” dodge.

  8. LBascom says:

There is a certain cleverness to it. Like hiring a burglar to burglar proof your home. Or a tax cheat to look for tax cheats. Like that.

Hey, I didn’t say wise, I said clever.

  9. The BBC’s belated coverage has been revealing.
    Of the BBC, that is.

  10. Bob Reed says:

Our man Jonah Goldberg, of NRO and Liberal Fascism fame sums it up nicely:

As for his decision not to resign, I think it reflects poorly upon the man and our times. He constantly says that he didn’t break the law and that nothing he did reflects on his work as a public servant. Though he concedes that people can draw different conclusions. I’ll say. Here’s mine. He has behaved dishonorably. That is an old-fashioned word, but I don’t think it is has lost its relevance. Politicians brag about being family men for a reason. They tout their families for a reason. They want people to believe they are honest, forthright, and decent people for a reason. Claiming “I didn’t break the law” is the last refuge of dishonorable men in situations like this.

I for one think we should continue to demand that our public servants be honorable men and women. We’ll often be disappointed because public servants are human beings and human beings almost always fall short of our ideals. When that happens leaders should apologize for their mistakes. Weiner has done that. Good for him. But despite assurances to the contrary, I don’t believe he has taken “full responsibility” for his actions.

So even though Mr. Weiner has allegedly taken responsibility, he’s chosen instead to add to the intertia of rendering that same expression meaningless, since in his particular case he’s paid no price save for exposing his lies.

Indeed, his wife may have paid the greater share of betrayal and public humiliation than the congressman. But least he didn’t have the nerve to try and trot her out to stand by his side; and in effect rub the whole mess in her face; as so many others have chosen to do before…

Or consider this from quote Slate, brought to us by Pundit & Pundette:

    http://www.punditandpundette.com/2011/06/anatomy-of-liar.html

For me, when the mass of lies equals the mass of apologies, the whole package congeals into some new sociopathic form for which there is yet no name. (Weinerite, perhaps?) That he was caught lying about his personal life, and not about public policy, doesn’t really matter to me. By demonstrating that he’s as good a liar as he is an apologizer, Weiner tells us everything we need to know about him.

That sums it up pretty nicely. How can he stay in office or hope to maintain the public’s trust going forward, knowing how fundamentally dishonest he can be, underscored by his demonstration of just how accomplished he is at lying.

How can he ever hope to be taken seriously again?

  11. B. Moe says:

The bottom line is he is a grown man who has been sending pictures of his dick to total strangers on the internet. Do you really want that kind of judgement deciding matters that will have a profound effect on your future?

  12. motionview says:

Speaking of kids, how’s this for a class project?

Superintendent Jeff Moss said letters were also sent from students in other local schools to their representatives and to Gov. Beverly Perdue. Letters weren’t written to “Mike Stone, the father” but to “Mike Stone, the representative,” he said. “If you’re not interested in receiving letters from people in your district, don’t run for public office,” Moss said. He said he doesn’t see a problem with a writing exercise that has students supporting public education

Translation: If you don’t want us indoctrinating your kids you just can’t give them to us at all.

    Message received.

  13. Squid says:

Funny how educrats never indoctrinate their slaves students to write to their Legislators asking them please to stop wasting money on bullshit do-nothing educational programs so that Mommy and Daddy will have enough left over to play Tooth Fairy.

  14. Just so we are clear on just how stupid and/or arrogant Weiner is, it isn’t just Breitbart who has the images. Whoever sent the pictures to Brietbart has them, as well as anyone else she has sent them or retweeted them to, along with the folks at Twitter most likely. Really makes you wonder who was advising Weiner the whole time.

Brietbart would be smart not to release the other picture(s), but they will come out.

    With apologies to Ray Stevens…

Oh yes they call him the Geek,
    Who now regrets his retweet.
He’s as proud as he can be of his anatomy,
And he (Andy’s?) going to give us a peek.

  15. Mikey NTH says:

My, he tried very hard to provide himself with cover, didn’t he? “Elmer Gantry to teh white courtesy phone, Mr. Gantry to the white courtesy phone.”

  16. Mikey NTH says:

#14: That’s exactly it. Those pictures are Legion, and they are everywhere.

  17. motionview says:

I think Weiner should stay on and be the face full frontal of today’s Democrat Party.

  18. geoffb says:

This failure probably stems from a lack in his childhood. Most boys are taught early on that you don’t go out in public until you check and make sure that your “Weiner-gate” is zipped up.

  19. 670 sex offenders live within just two blocks

I didn’t think they let congressmen live in their offices any more.
