A reminder, from John Nolte at Big Government:
Politics aside, what’s happening in Wisconsin is downright frightening because, as you’ll see below, these incidents are growing in number and intensity. Furthermore, other than the Right, no one is calling for calm or civility. The local media is, at best, wrist-flicking these incidents, Democratic legislators have not called for calm, President Obama is AWOL, and worst of all, Public Union employees not involved in the thuggish behavior taking place in their name, have been complicit with their silence.
This is more than a disgrace, it’s dangerous. Conservative radio talk show hosts and Governor Walker can talk all they want, but I fear that until the media starts a campaign of shame by focusing on these incidents, and responsible pro-union types begin to police their own side, someone is eventually going to get hurt.
And yet in today’s surreal mainstream media environment, saving these public sector union thugs from us is the new black. No, really.
Up is down. Black is white. Phineas is Ferb.

update: plaudits.
I’m sure most of you will catch it, but don’t miss this .
“Throughout, the AFL-CIO is asking local leaders to tie the Wisconsin issue to the King assassination and civil rights.”
OK fine. King was a Republican Christian and the death threats against Republican’s have me concerned about another assassination or violence. The Progressive agenda to subvert my civil rights also has me concerned. Is that what you meant?
Mr. B, you are clearly raaaaacist. Cease and desist!
Well duh. All part of the plan.
No Justice, No Peace, baby!
Let’s be honest: these thugs really do need to be protected from us. Not right now, but my crystal ball says it isn’t out of the question.
Right now, we’re doing a very good job at policing ourselves, and the violence has been almost entirely one-way. Now, imagine for a moment that in the run-up to the 2012 election, the unions sense that the electorate is leaning toward more reforms that threaten their cushy status quo. Imagine further that these unions, in a desperate bid to protect their phony-baloney jobs, decide that threats and intimidation no longer do the trick, and that some assault and vandalism is in order. Now imagine that the police show even less than their usual enthusiasm and professionalism in investigating (much less prosecuting) these crimes.
How much do you really think Main Street will put up with before they demonstrate what self-reliance and self-defense is all about? When the gloves come off, my money isn’t gonna be on the goons in the purple t-shirts. I hope they understand what they’re getting themselves into, though I’d be surprised if they showed any such wisdom at this point.
Squid, the unions learned from Islamists that violence works. Sadly, for them, the right is the side with the guns and willing to fight and die…
And, Jeff, coffee through the nose hurts!
Just heard it on Rush.
already posted on it geoff.
Have you caught the screed against Althouse? This is what an unemployed dishwasher/aspiring extortionist looks like.
Unfortunately the decontextualized optics will redound to Obama’s favor: Violent racist tea-baggers attack peaceful
agrarianeducationlaborcivil rights reformers! The union thugs aren’t trying to intimidate, they’re trying to provoke.
Well, the leadership is at any-rate. Who the hell knows what’s in the mind of a thug other than protecting his rice bowl.
The union thugs aren’t trying to intimidate, they’re trying to provoke.
I’d say it’s a split effort at present, but I totally understand where you’re coming from. The point I’m trying to get across is that eventually their efforts to provoke are going to bear fruit, but I don’t think the outcome will be the one they want. I think it’ll be closer to the experience of the folks with the screen-printing business, where the threats from the school union goon caused an outpouring of support from the Dittoheads. That’s the best-case scenario. Worse is if those on the side of liberty decide to punch back twice as hard, the way Dear Leader told them to.
Per Pablo’s link: unemployed dishwashers may believe that they are in control, that they are legion, but when the Teachers and Teamsters start throwing bricks through windows, they’re going to find out that the local Chamber of Commerce, Neighborhood Watch, and Tea Party types have a lot more clout that most people give them credit for.
[…] bad, even aside from the multiple Althouse threats. Cancel […]
Well Squid, Glenn Reynolds did suggest that the Senator from La Crosse who had to cancel his town halls because of threats against his family ought to respond by introducing a bill doing away with the state school system and replacing it with vouchers.
I agree with what you’re saying Squid, but I do worry about those union cops. They got guns, SWAT teams, tear gas, tanks, helicopters, and greyhound buses with bars in the windows.
Right now the media isn’t reporting the bad behavior, if we react it will. With us as the bad guys, and justification for them.
Remember when Obama wanted his own civil force, more powerful than even the military? Don’t think he’s not working on it.
Darth,
Can I get a denouncement?
As the R’s move forward with debating entitlement reforms, I can’t help think the Progs are hoping to inspire a bottom up race revolt. What else can one infer from Trumka’s statement?
Remember when Obama wanted his own civil force, more powerful than even the military? Don’t think he’s not working on it.
Is it too soon to start printing up the MuBarak Obama posters?
I will point out again that this crap doesn’t happen in TX. People have guns, and a legal system that encourages concealed carry, provides no “duty to retreat”, allows deadly force to defend yourself, your property, your neighbors / bystanders, the neighbors / bystanders property, and, most importantly, says that if no one can prove criminal charges against you, you also can’t be sued civilly.
The net result of this is that in Dallas TX, if Ann and Meade were accosted on the street by the Freelance Dishwasher, said dishwasher would have to consider both any resistance they might put up, and the possible presence of someone like me who routinely caries a .45 and would be happy to demonstrate in a good cause why John Moses Browning is worthy of worship.
If Walker and the Republicans wanted to do something constructive they would pass a similar suite of laws for WI.
