Gov Scott Walker rescinds WI public sector employee layoff notices

Walker’s statement:

The Legislature helped us save 1,500 middle-class jobs by moving forward this week with the budget repair. The state will now be able to realize $30 million in savings to balance the budget and allow 1,500 state employees to keep their jobs. The reforms contained in this legislation, which require modest health care and pension contributions from all public employees, will help put Wisconsin on a path to fiscal sustainability.

While tough budget choices certainly still lie ahead, both state and local units of government will not have to do any mass layoffs or direct service reductions because of the reforms contained in the budget repair bill. Moving forward the hard-working, professional public sector employees who show up to work every day and do an excellent job will help ensure Wisconsin has a business climate that allows the private sector to create 250,000 new jobs.

Jesse Jackson responds: “Keeping jobs at the expense of losing union power is unconscionable, unsustainable, unpalatable, irretrievable. The people have taken to the streets to exact social justice. The people demand less jobs. The people demand more pay and benefits for the few at the expense of the many. The people demand the right to free Viagra, so as to procreate the people. The people will revolt against the kind of hatred that leads to fewer people losing their homes, fewer people crushed under enormous taxation, fewer people squeezed out by a diminishing private sector. The people will recall those public slavemasters who protect the many against the privileged and powerful few. Here in the streets we are witnessing democracy. We are witnessing justice galvanized. It is indomitable. It is inscrutable. It is remonstrable and redeemable. Let freedom ring.

“Now somebody go get me six taco supremes. The people is hungry.”

I really enjoyed pointing out that Jesse Jackson was a douchebag; at a non union charter school where the son of Democrat WI Senator Lena Taylor’s son attends. Because of the quality education!

That JJ is a really smart guy. Though I liked him better when he was on MTV back in the day.

  3. alppuccino says:

AP polled the 1500 pub-sec workers and asked if they were in favor of keeping their jobs. 27% in favor, 64% not in favor, 9% fictional.

Sounds like a huge win for Dems.*

*some of these polls and/or numbers could be made up

That’s so wrong. But very funny.

At least you did not raise the spector of KFC. Because that would give you the dreaded label of raaaaacist. Because everyone knows Popeye’s is mo better.

  7. Joe says:

Actually Jesse is just looking for a shake down angle in all of this. He reminds me of the guys who would come to construction projects and demand some jobs for the brothers in the neighborhood, accept a negotiated payment instead, and you would basically have a trouble free rest of the project.

They have a word for that.

Something else about Scott “nads” Walker. When a new WI governor takes office, he adds his name to the “Welcome to Wisconsin” signs at the borders.

What Walker did, after removing the “Jim Doyle, Governor” signs, was put up signs that read “Open for Business!” instead of his name.

I thought that was very telling, and I smile every time I see one of those signs.

I mentioned a spork on Facebook yesterday and a friend in Italy immediately thought of KFC. I apologize to JJ for raising the specter of KFC.

    “Open for Business!”

More to arrive soon as Illinois cuts off nose to spite face.

  11. Bob Reed says:

Everyone knew the victim-in-chief would eventually show up in WI, to prove that his griefer-ing is still relevant today.

Isn’t it ironic though, that when he finally shows up it was just about all over anyway?

  12. John Bradley says:

    from geoff’s link:
“Gov. Quinn had argued that the law would “put Illinois-based businesses on a level playing field, protect and create jobs and help us continue to grow in the global marketplace.”

So the the new law removed sales taxes from Illinois-based businesses? Oh… surprisingly, it didn’t.

Funny how those sort of solutions are never even considered.

  13. Joe says:

    No death threats mentioned.

    No sense of irony either.
