Well, of course if there’s anyone The Hill should ask about what the new, tea-flavored Republican caucus is going to do, it’s a Republican Senator whose state party denied him a place on its primary ballot for re-election.
Whatever The Hill is smoking, I hope they got it from a reputable pusher.

There was a Russian political scientist who predicted just that, shortly after either the ’00 or ’04 elections, and was roundly rejected as a crank. Somehow, the idea doesn’t seem so crazy these days.
Is Bennett aware that his constituency just fired him?
Heh. He didn’t even get far enough for the whole constituency to fire him. He was refused the preliminary interview by the panel that decided who would get a full interview, before having their applications sent on to the constituency.

I’ve got a serious question here: If Jeff is right and the ruling class got the message, are they ignoring it because they don’t understand the nature of the messenger, or does this signal that they’ve chosen to reject that message?

They still think that all those people with their misspelled signs who nevertheless swung Congress back to the Right are a lot of big crybabies. Plus, the lobbyists on K Street (aka Gravy Train Lane) are still in Washington, whereas you are not.

Does that imply that they misunderstand the nature of the messengers (excitable proles who will lose interest eventually) or that they’ve rejected the message (how dare those excitable proles tell us that we work for them!)?

The late election probably disabused them of the first notion–the Tea Parties started in spring of ’09, IIRC, so the movement is certainly no nine-day wonder. As for the latter, it’s a tug-of-war, between the interests the politicians are beholden to, and the voters who have newly rediscovered their strength.

I wouldn’t take Bennett’s pronouncement as factual, or even representative of the GOP as a whole. I mean, he’s on his way out for crying out loud, so I wouldn’t put it past him to propagandize, or sow seeds of discontent/discouragement.
I personally don’t think that Bennett speaks for the GOP as much as he does for himself, and am not really concerned by his remarks; especially since even princess Lindsay says he’s not falling for any amnesty lite DREAM act stuff until the border is made more secure; a pre-condition the transnational multi-culti fetishists won’t budge on any time soon.
This is a non-story by “The Hill” is meant to cause garment rending and gnashing of teeth.

I vote “chosen to reject.”
These guys may be cocooned inside the Beltway, but they’re not that shtoopid. They have to take care of their Beltway Business first: feather their beds, get their palms greased, leave their legacies.
They may very well understand that this last election was a restraining order [thanks for the nifty, Peej!], which is why the lamest of the lame ducks like Bennett are pushing through what they can while they can.
Boy, am I glad we ousted this moron. No miscalculation there.
I’m hoping that it’s because they’ve misunderstood the nature of the TEA party movement. Because then there’s a glimmer of hope that the GOP will embrace it rather than end up a rump of a party. On the other hand, if they’ve chosen to reject the message, they’re signalling that they don’t care that a third party movement is in the offing, that as far as they’re concerned, losing more slowly is the same as winning, and if we don’t like it, we can lose with the Democrats. And that in turn tells me that our political system is broken beyond repair.
So the TEA Party takes over the GOP and they can either become Democrats for the few years the scam can continue, and then we include them in the “no longer our countrymen” moment that will happen when it collapses.

Hopefully he’s just throwing that out there to slow down the current DREAM act.
No, I don’t believe it either.

Cranky, he’s throwing it out there because that way he knows The Hill will put his name in the headline.
Is Bennett aware that his constituency just fired him?

Ernst, I’m pretty sure that’s a both-and, not either-or.
