"Diversity and the Myth of White Privilege"

Democrat James Webb gets his institutionalized racism on in the WSJ:

The injustices endured by black Americans at the hands of their own government have no parallel in our history, not only during the period of slavery but also in the Jim Crow era that followed. But the extrapolation of this logic to all “people of color”—especially since 1965, when new immigration laws dramatically altered the demographic makeup of the U.S.—moved affirmative action away from remediation and toward discrimination, this time against whites. It has also lessened the focus on assisting African-Americans, who despite a veneer of successful people at the very top still experience high rates of poverty, drug abuse, incarceration and family breakup.

Those who came to this country in recent decades from Asia, Latin America and Africa did not suffer discrimination from our government, and in fact have frequently been the beneficiaries of special government programs. The same cannot be said of many hard-working white Americans, including those whose roots in America go back more than 200 years.

Contrary to assumptions in the law, white America is hardly a monolith. And the journey of white American cultures is so diverse (yes) that one strains to find the logic that could lump them together for the purpose of public policy.

[…]

In 1974, a National Opinion Research Center (NORC) study of white ethnic groups showed that white Baptists nationwide averaged only 10.7 years of education, a level almost identical to blacks’ average of 10.6 years, and well below that of most other white groups. A recent NORC Social Survey of white adults born after World War II showed that in the years 1980-2000, only 18.4% of white Baptists and 21.8% of Irish Protestants—the principal ethnic group that settled the South—had obtained college degrees, compared to a national average of 30.1%, a Jewish average of 73.3%, and an average among those of Chinese and Indian descent of 61.9%.

Policy makers ignored such disparities within America’s white cultures when, in advancing minority diversity programs, they treated whites as a fungible monolith. Also lost on these policy makers were the differences in economic and educational attainment among nonwhite cultures. Thus nonwhite groups received special consideration in a wide variety of areas including business startups, academic admissions, job promotions and lucrative government contracts.

Where should we go from here? Beyond our continuing obligation to assist those African-Americans still in need, government-directed diversity programs should end.

Nondiscrimination laws should be applied equally among all citizens, including those who happen to be white. The need for inclusiveness in our society is undeniable and irreversible, both in our markets and in our communities. Our government should be in the business of enabling opportunity for all, not in picking winners. It can do so by ensuring that artificial distinctions such as race do not determine outcomes.

Memo to my fellow politicians: Drop the Procrustean policies and allow harmony to invade the public mindset. Fairness will happen, and bitterness will fade away.

Whatever, cracker. Democrat or not, your suggestion that we can help race relations without favoring particular races is just more coded racist special pleading for maintaining the white status quo.

— Which, all your lies, damn lies, and statistics aside, we all know still exists. And even if it didn’t, well, just go ask Voltaire how that works why don’t you?

Get with the post-racial program and start calling your political opponents racists for opposing you politically. Otherwise you’re a racist, too. Racist.

(h/t Terry H)

****
update: More racism, this time from an inauthentic Uncle Tom.

Here’s an idea: how about you go back to Driving Miss Daisy and leave the real work of racial justice to authentic advocates who’ve been in the trenches and seen racism up close and personal? Like, for instance, Spencer Ackerman.

HE’S BEEN IN THE SHIT, MAN! HAVE YOU?

  1. Mike LaRoche says:

Get with the post-racial program and start calling your political opponents racists for opposing you politically. Otherwise you’re a racist, too. Racist.

If he wants to have the street cred to call people racist, perhaps Mr. Webb should redefine himself as a fake Japanese, fake Muslim, fake teenager who types in 1337-speak and feels guilty for being a “hereditary Republican” trust fund baby. That seems to work for one of our more persistent trolls.

  2. Obstreperous Racist says:

Oh snap! No, he didn’t! He may be pruned from the democrat tree and quick like.

  3. Joe says:

If any of these new minorities go against the socialistic agenda and dare to say anything even remotely conservative, they are quickly regulated to the white cracker racist side of the ledger. That is how it works. Whites can get on the “good” socialist side by admitting their collective sins, cowtowing, and staying in line.

And I suspect Clarence Thomas can tell a few stories on how he was treated for his termerity to walk off the black socialist reservation.

Maybe it is time to listen to this guy on how to deal with race.

  4. ThomasD says:

Obama promised us a frank discussion on race. Strange that Webb was assigned to deliver it.

  5. Mr. W says:

The steering committee of American International Socialist Corporation, dba, “The United States Government”, does not approve of any of the corporations officers advocating the reduction of any revenue component that contributes the revenue stream for our Racial Grievance subsidiary.

Sub-contractor Rev. Al Sharpton points to the secton of The Little Red Company Handbook entitled, “The means justify the ends…”, and notes that with the November customer satisfaction surveys on the horizon, American International Socialist Corporation officers are more flexible regarding deviation from the Company Line, but there are limits.

Senior executive Webb should keep in mind that our re-organized ACORN division of ballot manufacturing will provide a substantial number of positive surveys that should help ameliorate any problems from our ungrateful and recalcitrant client base.

  6. alppuccino says:

This may not be the right time to tell you this, but George Bush hates white people. FYI.

  9. JD says:

  10. Makewi says:

Seems appropriate to the discussion. What the Black Man Wants I’m betting Morgan Freeman has read this.

“What shall we do with the Negro?” I have had but one answer from the beginning. Do nothing with us! Your doing with us has already played the mischief with us. Do nothing with us! If the apples will not remain on the tree of their own strength, if they are wormeaten at the core, if they are early ripe and disposed to fall, let them fall! I am not for tying or fastening them on the tree in any way, except by nature’s plan, and if they will not stay there, let them fall. And if the Negro cannot stand on his own legs, let him fall also. All I ask is, give him a chance to stand on his own legs! Let him alone! If you see him on his way to school, let him alone, don’t disturb him! If you see him going to the dinner table at a hotel, let him go! If you see him going to the ballot- box, let him alone, don’t disturb him! [Applause.] If you see him going into a work-shop, just let him alone,—your interference is doing him a positive injury.

  11. alppuccino says:

There’s your problem Makewi. Some thought they were helping to elect Morgan Freeman. Now they know it was really the guy who played Don Johnson’s sidekick on Miami Vice, only not as cool or smart or knowledgeable in the ways of the ladies.

  12. sdferr says:

Sounds like Mr Freeman has driven into the cul-de-sac and managed to find his way out. Good on him. Wonder whether having the name Freeman made any difference?

WH response: “Ok, we’ll concede that the large scale public opposition to so-called ‘Obamacare’ is racist, of course along with the President’s falling poll numbers. But, exactly like the jobs he has either saved or created, just think how many more racists there would have been had President Obama not acted!”

  18. Matty O says:

It’s time to listen to Dr. Martin Luther King. Skin doesn’t matter, character counts. Anything else is bull shit.

  19. Mr. W says:

Webb has read the tea leaves and decided that he prefers to keep his job rather than go down in the tangle of failure and destruction that is the Obama administration.

God gave the Democrats everything they ever wanted, all neatly contained within the confines of a well tailored empty suit, and it is smashing their dreams of a 4th Reich to pieces.

Any trolls offended by the ‘Reich’ reference? Let’s see, the lefties hate Jews, and want to rum everything despite their long record of total failure. I’d say we’re living in the modern equivalent of Berlin circa. 1937.

The difference is that Barry’s Stormtroopers are all Spencer Ackerman clones. You know the type, couldn’t bust a grape in a fruit fight.

That’s a rather short list of qualifications in order to be TEH NEXT HITLAR!!!

Maybe you should add something about starting wars of aggression and ending civil liberty protections.

  21. Obstreperous Infidel says:

Asshole, this doesn’t necessarily make him one of the good “ones” (I always knew you were a racist), but it definitely makes him a smart person. Much like Doctor King. He was another “one”, too, racist asshole.

Maybe you should add something about starting wars of aggression and ending civil liberty protections.

What about continuing those policies? Hell, not just continuing but adding MORE aggression! Obama must hate Muslims as much as Bush did. Who’da thunk it?

  22. Jeff G. says:

Don’t fret, AJB. You still have plenty of pets in your socially-engineered zoo who will behave in exchange for food and shelter.

  23. J."Trashman" Peden says:

Please excuse the omission – I’m just not quite ready to call merely abetting the Mexico Drug Lords’ war on Arizona “starting” wars of aggression. Btw, AJB, what’s your BMI?

    Helpful Progg advice alert!

Speaking of “invasions”, maybe the Proggs will want to consider the communicable disease invasion attending to “open borders”, you know, like TB and Syphilis? As we speak, one of my daughters who is currently working part time as a secretary in a fairly large onion processing business, where heap plenty illegals work, tells me her immediate hands-on-onions boss has had a very bad cough for 6 months, sometimes causing him to vomit, and has lost weight. Imo, the guy has communicable TB until proven otherwise.

Maybe worse, another one of my daughters worked for 2 years at the State Public Health facility in Hermiston, Or., a large agricultural area which has one of the highest rates of Hispanic population growth in the U.S. – but the PHS getting things reversed, my daughter reported that the the PHS did “screenings” but not for Syphilis, because “it is not a significant problem in the U.S.”, a situation which came about only because of past routine and mandatory screening, which is the predominate way Syphilis is detected and treated prior to doing real damage – otherwise it festers for decades in the brain, aortic valve, etc.. Back in the day we used to test for it on every “physical” and hosp. admission, and the “vdrl” test used to be required for getting a marriage license. Hence, it had become not a big problem in the U.S..

Progg Females especially will not notice the painless “primary chancre”. Then the organism goes into the blood and sets up asymptomatic, slowly destructive lesions wherever. It was known by Blacks as having “bad blood”.

  28. LTC John says:

#28 – I always thought of syphilis as “The thing that made Neitzsche’s last book really extra weird” or “Dr. Field Marshall President for Life Idi Amin Dada’s {mind} going away present”.

  29. newrouter says:

…and free healthcare, and help with reproduction (which is difficult for zoo animals, who often never learn to care for their young), and protection from predation.

Of course, the critters will utterly lose the ability to fend for themselves: if they ever escape, they’ll wander into traffic and get run over, or they won’t know to run for cover when the wolves lurk ’round, and if they’re lucky they’ll figure out how to tip over garbage cans and forage that way, but how to get fish from a stream or which berries to eat or how to find water will be lost on them.

Whatever. The stultification that comes from pacing around your enclosure day after day will prevent them from minding at all.

  35. Merovign says:

Has anyone here actually heard what’s taught in inner-city schools to black children, or in any college or by any of these race-obsessed teachers (of any race)?

Essentially, even in Today’s America, many black children are told not only that they will face discrimination, but that they will be held back by it, and that they won’t do as well as expected in life because of it – in addition to an endless litany of past abuses.

Of COURSE history needs to be taught, even if it’s ugly – but for crying out loud, what do you expect from today’s youth if you tell them they have no future?

I can’t think of anything worse to tell children. Flush the race-pimps out and bring in 100,000 experts on “how to make friends and influence enemies.”

As far as Freeman goes, he may be a complete deedle-weedle (I hope that’s not racist, I just made it up), but for that interview segement alone, not only will I stop complaining about how he plays the same damned character in every movie he’s in (well, from now on), but frankly I wanted to hug the dude. That was beautiful.

    – Tramping on right’s: Non-citizens have no constitutional rights. As a matter of civil charity they are afforded only those rights under the Geneva agreements. Fail

  39. dicentra says:

Of COURSE history needs to be taught, even if it’s ugly

What if it’s not as ugly as they’ve been taught, but the proggs excised Teh Successful Colored Man (and Woman) from early American history during their eugenics phase, then kept repressing it to repress their eugenics phase, then proceeded to repress it to take credit for civil rights while simultaneously keeping potentially successful men and women of color on the plantation?

You’re totally preaching to the choir here. Our history has been butchered by those with agendas for as long as we’ve had one. Academics in history departments have been content for decades to allow history to be rewritten for the sake of self-esteem, with disastrous consequences. I’m being charitable because surely the Democratic senator from Virginia didn’t mean to sound as bigoted as the article makes him seem. . . . Somebody, perhaps one of his congressional colleagues, needs to tell Sen.Webb to get his head out of the last, sad epoch of covert racist talk and join the rest of America in the 21st century.”

So you see? When I wrote yesterday that calling for race neutral policies is, to the left, a form of racism, I wasn’t kidding.

I don’t think such a message will sell with most of the American public. Unless they suddenly begin believing that the best way to avoid being a racist is to advocate for legislation based on race; whereas the surest way to ensure you are a RACIST! is to advocate for a society where color-blindness, with respect to legislation, is both the norm and the ideal.

That might seem counterintuitive even to the rubes who voted for Obama as a “symbol” for hope and change!

  91. sdferr says:

Think hypothetically how a race demagogue would answer Morgan Freeman is all Ernst, if not about how you’ve been met in argument should you have made the same case as Freeman. It seems to me that the answer is always “No!”, you can’t have color blindness because color consciousness is essential.

And that, despite the apparent invention of the concept sometime in the latter part of the 18th century and into the 19th toward its fuller flourishing (by whitey, need I add?).

  92. happyfeet says:

A former Sacramento leader of the Tea Party Express whose inflammatory remarks drew allegations of racism has cut ties with the organization.

The group sent an e-mail to supporters Friday announcing that Mark Williams had formally ended his involvement. He had been acting as a spokesman after stepping down as its chairman more than a month ago.

Williams set off a firestorm last week after posting a letter on his blog written from “Colored People” to Abraham Lincoln. The post suggested that black people would choose slavery over having to do real work.

In a letter to the Sacramento-based Tea Party Express, Williams said the media and “our domestic enemies” had misinterpreted his attempt at satire.*

  99. sdferr says:

Take us as anti-communists hearing from a communist that Communism hasn’t been tried, right? We’d say, horseshit, everywhere and always it has been tried it has failed. Why? Human nature, we answer. Something “essential” about human beings prevents their being capable of the altruistic demands of Communism as Marx conceives it. Just can’t be done, we say.

So also does the race demagogue answer the suggestion of colorblindness as the path out of racism. No, says he, people can’t escape color consciousness, it is essential to human makeup. Can’t be done. You will always be racists, says he.

  100. Ernst Schreiber says:

Then I’m failing to follow how the race consciousness über alles crowd argues in a similiar manner to the opponents of the class-consciousness über alles crowd.

Unless your point is that the argument boils down to color-blindness is as utopian an aspiration as a classless society.

  105. Ernst Schreiber says:

a shit, I broke the blog again.

sdferr, I see what your saying now. I think the racialist argument (color consciousness is a Hegelian Historical Imperative) is an inversion of the anti-communist argument, since it’s essentially arguing that that a claim of, or aspiration to color-blindness is a form of false consciousness.

Sorry about the italics fuck-up, I’m typing fast because I’m trying to beat a squall line that’s about to roll through town. Later, all.

he has a nice smile is he going blind for reals?

He has macular dystrophy, which could blind him in a year or not at all. There’s no treatment or cure, but he has to do some kinda test every day to see if there’s change. And if there is, well, nothing they can do about it. So it’s important that he do the test or something.

The Left is of course accusing him of pretending to be going blind for the publicity. So of course all this week Glenn has been saying stuff like, “you know, this macular dystrophy could make me go blind in as few as 15 minutes. Keep listening to see if it happens on LIVE, NATIONAL RADIO.”

  127. dicentra says:

    – Behold, the preceding marks the advent of the American haiku, or Ameraiku, and consists of 19 moras, or “on’s”, the Nippon equivalent of the English syllable, in a 6,6,6,1 sequence rather than the 5,7,5 of the haiku.

The 6,6,6,1 should be comfortable for all you little poetic devils out there.

  129. happyfeet says:

  130. happyfeet says:

  131. dicentra says:

Anyhoo, who’s David Buckner in the Beckian scheme of things dicentra?

Buckner teaches economics and organizational theory or some such at Columbia and NYU. I’m guessing Glenn met him at church. Glenn tells the story of when he first met Buckner back when he was doing his show on Headline News, and Buckner asked where he went to school.

Glenn told him the name of his elementary and high schools, and Buckner persisted, “but where did you go to college?”

    “I didn’t,” said Glenn, defiantly.

“I KNEW it,” said David, which at first raised Glenn’s eyebrow, but then he explained that he could tell because Glenn thinks outside the box (though David doesn’t operate outside of corporate clichés, apparently). Not like someone who drank the academic Kool-Aid. Buckner just published a book called “Permission to Think” that he was hawking at the Salt Lake thing.

Sometimes David does presentations on the TV show about economics, and he was involved in some of Glenn’s American Revivals.

I’m one of the few people in the country who does NOT know David primarily as the guy who fainted on Glenn’s program. (He was ill at the time.)

  132. happyfeet says:

his name of course is David Buckner

“She was not able to go to jail like the rest of them [protesters],” Grace Miller said. “She was off at school. She really wanted to go [to jail].”

Yet another tragic example of damn uncaring government.

  161. serr8d says:

Here’s a very decent embroglio-summary piece from today’s NYT (surprisingly enough). Tobin Harshaw doesn’t give the Left overly many quotes, and even manages to make Ta-Neshi Coates seem the biggest idiot of the lot (that’s not hard to do, because he is the biggest idiot of the lot).

And no, Harshaw didn’t exactly absolve Andrew Breitbart, but there’s no great pedestal fabricated for Saint Shirley, either. And Ben Jealous, was he really present at Saint Shirley’s rambling, incoherent speech? Is that right? If so, then he, not Ta-Neshi Coates, is the biggest idiot-loser of all.

  162. Pablo says:

Wait, I thought the Klan done killed Shirley’s Daddy.

  163. Obstreperous Infidel says:

mostly I think she’s having fun with the platform Andy gave her… that sounds like what she said about Fox too though. She should mix it up a little.

Bullshit, happy. You remind me of a parent who is overly critical of his/her own children but gives tons of latitude to other’s children. Pretty inconsistent. Kind of like loving George W but hating on a person who actually GOVERNED to the right of that same George W. Kind of odd from one of the staunchest. The woman is a bint. A lot of people have had similar backgrounds, and much worse, than this lady and aren’t pieces of shit. She has chosen to be a piece of shit.

  164. Pablo says:

The woman is a racist bint.

FTFY, OI. You know how those white people are, always wanting to enslave the black folk.

  165. serr8d says:

‘feets lost me when he blasted Andrew Brietbart for his supposed engineered personal destruction of poor, innocent Saint Shirley; that being the same Happyfeet who raged scornful invective (and dirty words and phrases) at Mrs. Tebow for simply trying to save innocent unborn lives in a 30-second commercial. Mrs. Tebow was ‘guilty’, in ‘feet’s mind, of much more harmful discourse than what we heard Saint Shirley, a known Democrat appointee of dubious record and obvious lack of verbal skills, and proven hateful low-level racist rhetoric, espouse…but Andrew Breitbart owes Saint Shirley an apology.

‘feets, by your own (flawed) judgment turned on you, you owe Mrs. Tebow an apology. Snap to it.

  166. Obstreperous Infidel says:

I meant to say “governed to the right on fiscal manners” and seemed to govern to the left on social issues. Did she have a state equivalent to the National Marriage thing? I don’t think so.

  167. Mr. W says:

“She has chosen to be a piece of shit.”

Being a piece of shit pays real good in Barry’s new all-animals-are-equal paradigm.

That ‘piece of shit’ got herself 13 million tax dollars and a 150k a year no-work government job as a payoff for some gaffe farm she and a bunch of other non-working “farmers” owned. They bought it for the express purpose of perpetrating a grift on the American people. If we had a responsible press instead of the PR division of Big Government, Inc. we are stuck with, there would be a hell of a story to be told in Ms. Sherrod’s extensive history of taxpayer subsidized luxurious living. Instead we get opinion pieces that tediously sift through the chronology of who-called-who-a-racist-first.

BITCH GOT 13 FUCKING MILLION AND A NO-WORK JOB FOR NOT FUCKING FARMING! I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW MORE SINCE THEY’RE PASSING OUT ANOTHER 2 BILLION TO PEOPLE WHO ALSO DID NOT FUCKING FARM YOU SO-CALLED FUCKING “JOURNOLISTS”.

I personally am combing through my geneology for a drop of black blood so I can get in on the action too, since I CAN’T FARM EITHER!

Imagine getting paid millions because you were too stupid and/or lazy to operate a farm. Only in Obama’s America*!

*’Millions of dollars for having bad credit, no work ethic, and failing’ bonus plan not available to all Americans. Check eligibility requirements at your local NAACP office.

When I’m not breaking blogs, I’m busy manufacturing shoddy goods for the export market. You didn’t really think all those heavy metals were ending up in your children’s toys by accident, did you?

  173. sdferr says:

What’s doubly strange is that not a few of us can manage to italicize an entire comment in error Ernst, but so far it seems only you know how to do make the slant carry down the page. Secret knowledge is spooky, so careful man, the mob forming to get hf might turn on you at any second.

  174. Ernst Schreiber says:

Believe me, if I knew what I was doing, I’d stop. Unless I could monetize it somehow.

Anyway, that was an interesting notion you bought up last night sdferr, and I regret that the weather and my lame-ass blog-fu derailed the conversation.

  175. sdferr says:

Yikes, it’s super-duper secret then (a function of daemons), heh, scarier still. Look out my brother.

  176. sdferr says:

Obama knows the score Ernst. You’ve go to get yourself an identifiable cut-out, like a Vilsack, say. Or try KSM in NY, oh no, that was Eric, just doing his job, see?

Use one of your kids maybe? The kid wanted to participate in the blog commentings, so as a kindness you let him/her type a character now and again, but it turns out the kid only likes to type one particular character and that’s not the character the html formula happened to demand. And you were busy tending to a gin-and-tonic spill at that moment — or practicing your putting stroke — so it escaped your notice.

  177. ThomasD says:

Ah, the old phony gin-and-tonic spill trick.

So this is what a vast right wing conspiracy looks like…

I should probably add something about a plate glass window, but the only thing that comes to mind is that plate glass windows don’t discriminate, not even on purpose.

  203. LBascom says:

“What do you think of J above though?”

I think asking for someone engaged in honest debate to be banned when they can easily ignore the one offending them is very un-PW. Kinda nannyish actually, wanting something they don’t like to be stripped from everyone.

I also think pretending there is a mob forming (a kind of chastisement of everyone challenging hf’s argument) to get hf is rhetoric counter productive to actual debate.

  210. LBascom says:

  211. sdferr says:

  212. serr8d says:

Dishonest, ‘feets? How so? Her 5th child is now a Denver Broncos quarterback; he survived only because his mother was a fighter who refused to abort him when given that option. Their commercial was a celebration. What makes her dishonest?

Saint Shirley won $13 million from our tax coffers, then went on to a political appointment to a cushy job where she bashed Team R and George Bush on NAACP video, and she’s now American Lefty Idol with prezzidint Obama ready to take a knee to win her back. But there’s room to defend her.

He wanted to be able to say that black people are racists so they should shut their black racist mouths about the Tea Party or something.

And he was 100% right. Again, I do agree that it seems he tried to make it sound like Shirley the dumb bint was at the federal agency at the time of her racist behavior. The way I figure it, he either had a tremendously poor time at communicating his message or he deliberately lied about her. But again, I think the greater point of this all was to show that the NAACP, who just called the tea party a bunch of racists, is actually the one with a racism problem. I don’t think he really accomplished his goal, though. Are there racists in the NAACP? Of course there are. The organization itself is not about equality, but rather retribution, so the reaction to the dumb bint shirley and her story by SOME of the audience members is not a surprise to anyone who has had to have any dealings with the NAACP or some of it’s more fervent members. But then again, maybe it was an eye opener for those who are not aware of the NAACP and some of their more insecure members.

    Andrew Brietbart to Matt Lewis

Q: Fox News has been criticized for airing the video and for pushing this story. Do you believe that Fox jumped the gun by running with this story before seeing the full video and putting her words in context?

A: The excerpt that started this, to this day, is newsworthy. It served the purpose of showing there was a double standard between the NAACP accusing the Tea Party. It is the White House — I reiterate — it is the White House and [Agriculture Secretary] Tom Vilsack and the NAACP who did not do their due diligence. [That] or they are worried about the political implications of drawing attention to somebody involved in a very controversial matter…

Q: Anything else folks should know about this or about Andrew Breitbart?

A: Believe it or not, one of my primary motives on this planet is to stop this racism, and to stop the Democratic Party’s use of race that divides us intentionally. Google me and Clarence Thomas. I went from left to right because I watched this tactic happen to him and I aligned myself with black conservatives. Free thinkers recognize the Democratic Party will do or say anything to instill fear into black Democratic voters…Shirley Sherrod in that video said those who disagree with Obamacare are coming from a racist point of view. That is a troubling racist sentiment.

A: I couldn’t get any mainstream media to cover that story [Breitbart’s offer of $100,000], even though they played up the ‘n word’ allegation. And so, given that we were in day seven of this successful propaganda campaign asking the question, ‘Is the Tea Party racist?’ — and because the standard they set was that someone in an audience expressing a racist thought — like at the Tea Party it was often based merely on an infiltrator holding a [offensive or racist] sign — the [Sherrod] video was evidence. You had people in the audience abiding by her discriminating against a white farmer — clapping and agreeing. That is a [liberal organizer [Saul] Alinsky standard — hold the opposition to the standard that they set.

Face it, Darleen, happyfeet knows about three times as much as you do about this story. He, for example, has actually read the text accompanying the video; a text you are too lazy or partisan to read.

Still, could be worse. You could the pathetic jackass above who thinks black farmers won a settlement in the Pigford case because they were too dumb to farm, whereas white farmers right next door were smart enough to get Federal loans. Weird how the USDA, Congress, and a Federal Court acknowledge there was racism in the county committees, but yet no one calls him out for referring to the victim of this Breitbart inanity as a “bitch.” No one suggests he visit http://www.nationalaglawcenter.org/assets/crs/RS20430.pdf so he could learn what the fuck he’s ranting about.

No one suggests that Federal loans to relieve farmers of all types from unforeseen natural disasters are about as common as an aggrieved sense of victimhood by the commenters on this site. You would think any one of you could have cared to correct him….

Still, Darleen, the retort: “you don’t know what you’re talking about” is really more about tribalism than reading, isn’t it. Go read YOUR original link to Breitbart. Report back and be a better person. You know, like Shirley

Present day demographics show a massive racial gap by age. Minorities now make up 44% of all children under 18, a majority in seven states, and will represent a majority of all American children by as soon as 2023. At the same time, the country is also aging, as the massive Baby Boom Generation moves into retirement. But in contrast to the young, fully 80% of this rapidly expanding senior population is white. — National Journal
    http://www.nationaljournal.com/njmagazine/cs_20100724_3946.php

White, conservative, elderly, vs. youth, diversity and the America’s future. America is changing rapidly and it is natural for conservatives, many who grew up during segregation, to feel threatened. This can explain what is going on politically with the new conservative fervor and movements like the Tea Party, which is undeniably a movement among predominantly white and older Americans.

  231. Darleen says:

Then why did O’reilly call for her to re-sign in his 8 o’clock story? Oops on you, Darleen.

excuse me, fuckface, O’Reilly is a commentator, not the news desk. And even at that O’Reilly’s commentary came ONE HOUR AFTER SHERROD had already RESIGNED*

CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER: Speaking of apologies, perhaps you ought to apologize for saying that Fox News had her on the air before the administration had fired her. In fact, she was fired in the late afternoon. She appeared on Fox, her story appeared on Fox News later. And I would tell you that the next day at a time when she remained fired, Secretary of Agriculture had repeated his intention to have her fired. The main news show 6:00 had her on, and I called for apology, restitution and reinstatement as did the entire Fox News panel. So, if we’re going to put all this in context and speak about the context, I think it ought to be universal.*

So, shit-fer-brains, go have a buttertart with grieferfeet and squeeze out a couple of crocodile tears for Sherrod the bigot.

  234. LBascom says:

I can believe of children under 18, minorities could account for over 50% in seven states.

  235. Spence says:

And even at that O’Reilly’s commentary came ONE HOUR AFTER SHERROD had already RESIGNED*

This is false. O’Reilly taped his show prior to the resignation, showed the video, then apologized later. Fox Nation website released the Breitbart video at 1:40 pm, several hours before Sherrod resigned with the headline: “CAUGHT ON TAPE: OBAMA OFFICIAL DISCRIMINATES AGAINST WHITE FARMER.”

Serrod esigned several hours later that evening, just before 8pm.

  236. B Moe says:

WHAT DID O’REILLY KNOW AND WHEN DID HE KNOW IT!

The issue with Fox News is also clear.

  238. Darleen says:

. O’Reilly taped his show prior to the resignation

So what? It didn’t air until AFTER she resigned. How does something NOT AIRED influence Obama?

Oh, I saw someone comment somewhere else that the Obama admin had to fire (or force to resign) Sherrod because they were afraid of what Beck might say that night.

And in case you missed it, she DID DISCRIMINATE AGAINST A WHITE FARMER. She admitted it herself. That’s a fact. In context she did it 20 years ago and claims she repented (but she has gone on to make other outrageously racist and bigotted statements, so maybe her claims are just a tad hypocritical).

The article on the website is factual. The Obama admin screwed the pooch on this one and they have no one to blame but themselves.

  239. Darleen says:

O’Reilly apologizing still doesn’t make FoxNews responsible for Sherrod’s dismissal. Neither O’Reilly’s COMMENTARY nor the news story AIRED until after she was gone.

It is also clear Obama fucked up and it had nothing to do with O’Reilly.

If a black man killed Darleen’s father and got off scot free via an all=black jury, it would seem amazing to me that Darleen would help a black farmer save his farm… the way Sherrod did for the Spooners.

What is most despicable is that Breitbart is so desperate to make his racist story valid, he asserted on CNN with John King, that the farmer’s wife Eloise Spooner, (who asserts that Shirley Sherrod is a good person and not a racist) is a plant.

Well you don’t have to worry about seeing “our friend Shirley” on TV anymore happyfeet. See, it turns out that just about every time she opened her mouth during the many TV interviews over the last few days, like, inconvenient utterances came out that didn’t jibe with the desired “Saint Shirley” narrative construct. And who knows what might have been revealed from scrutinizing the record pertaining to the lawsuit she won, the large dollars that USDA has been handing out for “not farming”, and the USDA hiring practices as a whole.

I’ve said as many times as I’m going to that Breitbart messed up one of the pragraphs of an otherwise factual article, one that he has since corrected. Yes, he effed up, but was not directly targeting Shirley; why won’t you give him the same benefit of the doubt that you’ll gladly extend to her?

    http://reason.com/archives/2010/07/23/hollywood-babylon-for-ugly-peo

The Saint Shirley spotlight had run it’s course. The usual suspects have used it to deflect attention from the NAACP for playing the race card on the Tea Party as a whole. But now, she’s an uncontrollable loose cannon that may reveal some less than optimum points of view that could spoil all their hard work; they’re done with her.

  299. happyfeet says:

this is probably because Breity’s dishonest stunt deflected attention from the NAACP for playing the race card on the Tea Party as a whole. But the right is building a narrative about Shirley what excuses the lies by which she came to be so infamous and derided. That is a very wrong thing to do cause of Shirley was and remains innocent of Breitbart’s ugly lie that she’s a racist worthy of national condemnation.

This doesn’t have anything to do with Palin or Tebow I don’t think other than the vehemence with which dissent for the Team R narrative is greeted. It’s very important for lots of white Team R ones to believe Shirley just wanna keep whitey down is what we’ve learned. But Shirley seems mostly focused on lifting black people up. She’s no saint. She favors highly dirty socialist redistributey means, but so do lots of white people. There’s nothing racist about it.

  303. Ric Locke says:

Ah, the blackhole list must’ve gotten updated.

happyfeet, if it will make it clearer to you, think of Shirley Sherrod as Joe Wurzlbacher in blackface drag. Breitbart is demonstrating that more than one side can play the “character destruction by exposure” game, he is doing a good job of it, and Ms. Sherrod simply got caught up in the gears. As did Mr. Wurzlbacher. And at least Breitbart apologized for the actual errors.

    Regards,
    Ric

  304. happyfeet says:

  306. Ric Locke says:

We don’t want to play that game, happyfeet.

But I, for one, am ‘way more Riehlistic about it than you are. If it’s the only game in town, we either ante up and follow the rules or lose — and up to now the choice has been “lose”. Breitbart don’t roll that way, and it’s time someone took up the challenge.

The leftoids aren’t gonna stop without some strong incentive. Up to now, we on the Right have been waiting for journalism to provide that incentive. Now that journO!list has demonstrated that that ain’t gonna happen, we have to stop bringing rubber-band pistols to artillery duels.

Following up on that analogy — the leftoids have been giving us ammunition for a long time, and giggling at our frustration at our not having the tubes to deliver it. Breitbart has now demonstrated that (1) on that scale he’s about a battery of 155, and (2) he’s got the White House sighted in, with a CEP of under half a meter. Fire for effect! Get the next company sited!

I don’t think anybody would be happier than he if the whole battle got called off and we could all slope off to the boozer. But the time for bunkers and sandbags is over. It’s time to shoot back, and shrug about the occasional incidents of collateral damage. Alinsky’s rules are “good” in the sense of “valid”, and like all valid rules they work for anyone prepared to follow them. The game they outline isn’t a pleasant one, but it can be lots of fun if the other side is too delicate or refined to follow them. Time the leftoids learned that.

‘feets, you better visit KOS AND that other lefty cesspit Balloon Jism and bring back better trolls. You’re gonna need ’em.

Your singin my tune Ric and as the Marines would say I’m sportin wood;)

It’s great to have you back!
    Keep Firing!

  311. Darleen says:

Darleen to write as you did that Shirley’s “racism” stands unexcused is to pick up the lying ball where Breitbart left it and run it down the field, and for what? Shirley can’t be made a racisty racist just by repetition

get off it, griefer. Sainted Shirley’s own subsequent blatherings have been so inconvenientedly bigotted the MSM is now stiff arming her.

  312. Darleen says:

    Bravo, Ric.

  313. happyfeet says:

just cause Shirley likes to screech racist at lord, god and everyone doesn’t mean lying whore Breitbart was justified in lying about her having discriminated against whitey at the USDA. He was wrong… and the woman clear as day says it’s wrong to discriminate against white people – the audience affirms that sentiment. That’s all there is to that.

She’s not racist – and Team R wants to beat the shit out of her anyway. It’s mean and it’s dishonest.

    This never should have happened.

  314. Darleen says:

AB was only mistaken in believing she was relating her experience at the USDA

BUT THAT DOESN’T MEAN SAINT SHIRLEY DIDN’T DISCRIMINATE AGAINST THE FARMER. She admitted it, hf.

AND you’re wrong about the audience. They were all being “right on, sistah” when she talked about how she wasn’t going to help him and sent him to one of “his own kind.”

  315. newrouter says:

oh the pigford thing is interesting:

That the “black farmers’ discrimination” shakedown—a 1999 “settlement” reached under Clinton-appointed Secretary of Agriculture Dan Glickman between USDA and black “farmers”—is a colossal fraud has been documented by the Government Accountability Office (GAO). In July 2007, the GAO released a report accusing USDA of paying $1.1 billion in farm payments to more than 172,800 dead people between 1999 and 2005. [Deceased Farmers Got USDA Payments, By Sarah Cohen, Washington Post, July 23, 2007] Self-serving politicians immediately pretended to be scandalized by such waste and abuse, and vowed to hold hearings and get to the bottom of this “incompetence.”

However, during that same six-year period, a USDA settlement with “black farmers” paid out nearly $1 billion to just over 15,000 people—most of whom had no connection with agriculture and had never applied for assistance from the department. Several years ago, one politician asked the GAO to investigate this paradox—but quickly pulled back that request for fear of the fraud that the watchdog agency might find. Not one politician supposedly outraged by payments to dead people has expressed the slightest concern about even more massive payments to those highly dubious claimants in the settlement that was supposed to resolve the Pigford v. Glickman, now known as Pigford v. Johanns lawsuit.

  316. happyfeet says:

she didn’t discriminate she went out of her way to help him… she didn’t have to do that yet she did. Good for her.

And please find a youtube clip and tell me the timestamp on the evil audience racisms… and I will show you the timestamps where the audience concurs that we help poor people regardless of color. We will have several timestamps!

If Breitbart had represented that video honestly none of this would ever have happened. It’s disconcerting to realize the comfort level Team R has with lies and distortions about people what are innocent but for having obscenely dirty socialist views about the world we live in.

  317. george smiley says:

Actually she didn’t, she turned him over to a white lawyer, he screwed up, then she had to help him again

  318. sdferr says:

It’s disconcerting sure hf, but it’s of a piece with our underlying human urge to resort to tit for tat from the jump. The imposition of our schemes of institutional justice are, after all, imposed from above on our instinctive reactions to injury as a kind of overlay, which only means they haven’t the power to eliminate the instinctual altogether. See the Oresteia in general and the Eumenides in particular.

  319. happyfeet says:

she didn’t *have* to help him again she did it cause it was the right thing to do

  320. happyfeet says:

I guess so but she’s just a lady what has lived her little life mostly helping black people try and keep their farms… working in offices with bad lighting and mold… she’s not the enemy… if I’m half as helpful when all is said and done about my days here on erf I will be pretty pleased with myself and I will expect a cupcake.

  321. sdferr says:

I pretty much agree she has the “meant well” going for her, so far as “helping” others goes. That, however, doesn’t excuse her from the task of seeking to understand whether her “help” is the best help she can muster or if, in some unintended way her “help” leads to worse outcomes than had she followed another path. It isn’t clear entirely, but seems clear on the surface, that her embrace of statism is reasonably unequivocal. To the extent that statism as such leads to worse outcomes for the whole, she should ought to stop and think. But she most likely won’t. It’s hard, after all.

  322. newrouter says:

I guess so but she’s just a lady what has lived her little life mostly helping black people try and keep their farms

she’s a black liberation marxist out to get reparations from whitey

  323. geoffb says:

“I was speaking to that group, like I’ve done many groups, and I tell them about a time when I thought the issue was race and race only,” she said in a phone call to CNN to offer context for the video clip, which the cable station was broadcasting repeatedly. “I was telling the story of how working with him helped me to see the issue is not about race. It’s about those who have versus those who do not have.

Versus. She is still at war. She traded her totally race war mental outlook, which the left inflicts, for the purpose of control, upon it’s favored minority groups, for the more generalized, mainstream left view of the great “class war”. She has been “disappeared” by the MSM because she inconveniently spoke the direct “rhetorical radical” speech. The media prefers the softer more nuanced “realistic radicals” so as to not tip their hand.

  324. happyfeet says:

she was disappeared cause she called Obama an inauthentic negro

  325. sdferr says:

That’s one of those inconvenient aspects of the Knowledge Problem coming home to roost again, ain’t it? Kinda like Nancy P’s reaction to Gibbs’ proclamation on the Nov. election probabilities, Mrs Shirley has trouble sticking to the proper party line on account of her precise knowledge of her own history.

  326. Jeff G. says:

    She’s not racist

she was disappeared cause she called Obama an inauthentic negro

    Discuss.

  327. happyfeet says:

why can’t you ever be on my side?

  328. Jeff G. says:

I’m on your side when you’re right.

  329. happyfeet says:

I’m right this time I promise I just don’t know how to make people understand.

  330. Jeff G. says:

No you aren’t. See #335 for proof.

  331. Ernst Schreiber says:

She’s no more racist than Robert Byrd. Just as Robert Byrd knew there were white “negroes,” Shirley Sherrod knows of poor whites that The Man treats like “negroes”. Opposite sides of the same adulterated coin.

  332. newrouter says:

Even those of us who warned against the “canonization” of Shirley Sherrod didn’t expect that right-of-center commentators would propose that her radical manifesto become part of the canon. Yet that’s what Peggy Noonan is calling for:

This September, when school begins, we should make [Sherrod’s] speech required viewing in the nation’s high schools.

Gee, can’t this wait until February, when Black History Month rolls around?

It’s fun–a macabre sort of fun–this parlor game of “Who Goes Nazi?” And it simplifies things–asking the question in regard to specific personalities.

Kind, good, happy, gentlemanly, secure people never go Nazi. They may be the gentle philosopher whose name is in the Blue Book, or Bill from City College to whom democracy gave a chance to design airplanes–you’ll never make Nazis out of them. But the frustrated and humiliated intellectual, the rich and scared speculator, the spoiled son, the labor tyrant, the fellow who has achieved success by smelling out the wind of success–they would all go Nazi in a crisis.

Believe me, nice people don’t go Nazi. Their race, color, creed, or social condition is not the criterion. It is something in them.

Those who haven’t anything in them to tell them what they like and what they don’t-whether it is breeding, or happiness, or wisdom, or a code, however old-fashioned or however modern, go Nazi. It’s an amusing game. Try it at the next big party you go to.

You need to re-read “The Grapes of Wrath”, ‘feets, before you worry of the plight of deep-south farmers. There’s never been a dust storm as I’ve ever seen since I’ve lived here. Sure, crops fail one year because of local drought, bugs or poor land use, but good years are much more common. These New Deal dirty socialists have made non-farming profitable, even for non-farmers. How deep are our pocketses?

“Now the wind grew strong and hard and it worked at the rain crust in the corn fields. Little by little the sky was darkened by the mixing dust, and carried away. The wind grew stronger. The rain crust broke and the dust lifted up out of the fields and drove gray plumes into the air like sluggish smoke.
