“Census hiring to spike job figures in May”

More massaging of the narrative? Why, never!

Hiring by the U.S. Census Bureau is expected to spike May’s job figures dramatically.

Economist Mark Zandi of Moody’s.com projects the economy will add 575,000 jobs in May, while the Economic Policy Institute’s (EPI) rough projection is for 560,000 jobs.

Either figure would represent the largest number of jobs created in any month since the dot-com crash of 2000.

Vice President Joe Biden, speaking at a Democratic fundraiser on Tuesday, touted what he said would be a positive report for Democrats, who are hoping a revitalized economy will help them in this fall’s elections. He said the May report would be “well beyond” the 290,000 jobs created in April, according to Reuters.

The numbers pose a problem for the administration, however, in terms of their reflection of economic growth.

Zandi expects that only 150,000 of the jobs created in May will come from the private sector, while 425,000 new jobs are sparked by the once-a-decade census.

Those jobs are temporary ones that will disappear as the Census completes the process of collecting data from people who did not mail in their forms.

Yes. Well, in fairness, the promise was to create jobs using trillions of dollars in “stimulus” monies. Which they’ve done.

— Nobody said anything about their being permanent jobs — or about their creation reflecting anything other than more unsustainable growth in government employment.

I mean, you people seem to think it’s easy to kill off the private sector and create a democracy-friendly fascism. It isn’t. It takes hard work and planning. And frankly, that ObamaCo took the time out from their grand designs to “reinvent” free enterprise capitalism in order to grow jobs should be lauded, not sneered at.

Christ. Are you rubes ever ungrateful.

    I know…I know…I should be graterful.

They are actually an intelligent crew, when it comes to connivance. You see, the government doesn’t pay the equivalent of unemployment insurance on census workers. And, the NRFU (non-response, follow up) operation is expected to take until the end of the summer; at least here in the NYC area. Now, what that means is that come September, folks will have been let go and will be looking to go back on unemployment. But, there will be a delay due to the fact that they recently had temporary employment with Uncle Sam; at least that’s the way I am led to understand it by several folks who are actually in such situations.

Therefore, they will not be able to file for new unemployment, or to continue benefits they had begun before taking the temporary job, until October. Which means that the spike in unemployment claims will not come until after the mid-terms.

    Devilishly clever…Or so they think.

On the other hand, that gives the entire summer barbeque season to douse any, “happy days are here again, people are working!”, gushing pronouncements with the cold water of inconvenient truth.

At least, that’s how I personally am going to “advance the struggle!” against the ObaMao crew, here in the left-wing target rich environment on Long Island.

Look on the bright side Jeff, when the census jobs at $10 an hour play out in a month or so, then you can score a $12 an hour job with BP picking dead pelicans and dolphins off the beaches of Louisianna.

    Sweet! Bourbon Street for R&R!

  3. Joe says:

Just no digital cameras when picking up the dead turtles! BP learned the lesson of Abu Ghraib real well.

Now they just have to shut down those underwater cameras.

Bob- I feel comforted just knowing you are on the job.

Bob – Thank you for not posting random links to completely unrelated topics.

  6. Joe says:

So when libertarians said don’t fill out the census forms, they gave Obama the chance to hire a bunch of unemployed flunkies.

And then BP did the same with its oil mess.

    Sweet baby gerkins!

Jobs, the good for Obama kind.
