“Turkish Police Thwart Obama Assassination Conspiracy”

Well, that’s one way to make Keith Olbermann’s Worst Person in the World segment, I guess.

From Turkish Weekly:

According to the report, the man, who was arrested on Friday, was carrying a press card identifying him as an employee of Al Jazeera. He reportedly confessed to his intention to stab Obama with a knife and said that he was aided by three accomplices.

The report stated that Turkish authorities were still unsure as to whether the press card was a fake or whether it had actually been issued the man by the Qatari news network.

Al-Jazeera’s Ankara bureau chief, Yussef al-Sharif, told the paper that news of the suspected assassination plot had come as an utter surprise to the network’s staff in Turkey, adding that all of Al-Jazeera’s employees in the country claimed that they were not acquainted with the suspect.

Good for Turkish authorities.

Until we know more about this plot and its plotters, however, I suggest we not get caught up in drawing hasty conclusions. For all we know, a secret sect of Syrian Druids might be behind this — and while it’s doubtful, it’s at least possible.

And I wouldn’t want to tar all Druids with the behavior of an extremist few who represent the very fringes of their religion.

Well I’m going with Wiccans. Or … possibly Methodists. There are Methodists working for Al Jazeera, aren’t there?

  3. alppuccino says:

He “reportedly confessed” while in the custody of the Turkish Authorities. Now it’s been a while since I’ve seen Midnight Express but I imagine the interrogation went a little something like this:

    Turkish Officer: Are you comfortable?

    Stabber: Uh

TO: Can I get you some tea?

    Stabber: Uh

    TO: Foot rub?

    Stabber: I CONFESS!

How long before the Journolist ties this plot to Rush Limbaugh or Eric Cantor?

Ah, fuck it. They’ll just pin it on Palin. She’s the Unified Field Theory for drooling douchebags.

  5. BJT-FREE! says:

I’m thinking Charles Johnson at LGF will have some memos linking the potential stabber to Dr. James Dobson in a conspiracy with Sarah Palin and Glen Beck.

    Hilarity ensues…

The whole conspiracy angle will fall apart when it’s revealed that fundamentalist Christians won’t use fax machines. Because of the demon possession or some such…

The AP reports that the man in question is a Rush 24/7 subscriber and was listening to a Glenn Beck pod cast on his I phone immediately prior to putting the plan in motion. Personally, I know when I hear Beck saying “Look I’m not telling you to particiate in armed insurrection”, I think “He’s telling me to buy guns, arm myself and overthrow the government.” Nuance, ya know.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) – Two F-16 fighters were dispatched Monday afternoon to track a single-engine plane over Wisconsin that was believed stolen in Canada by a student pilot, authorities said. The incident caused the Wisconsin Capitol in Madison to be evacuated as a precaution.

Mike Kucharek of the North American Aerospace Defense Command in Colorado says that by 5:30 p.m., the Cessna 172 was south of Madison and headed southwest.

Well of course there is that! There are also people who penetrate a defended airspace in light aircraft and (after KAL 007) there are those who do not know what they should do and paralyze the entire defense network.

At least here the air defense network (NORAD) looks like it turned inward and was able to vector interceptors to the rogue aircraft. What was actually going on, and the response, needs to be evaluated.

I just wanted to draw attention to a parallel. No nation wants a kamikaze; and no nation wants to have the KAL intercept transmissions played in the UN. 9-11 or KAL 007? Hard decision to make, I think.

Yeah. Kinda. Aldermen/women are a lot like Saudi princes. You get a building permit from ciy hall. You get a driveway permit from your alderman. Ditto re roofing and other stuff. So yeah, bowing and scraping are in order.

Just because two people have a similar goal (defeating terrorists in this case) doesn’t mean they have the same reasons for the goal or that they see the goal as leading to the same future ones.

FDR, Churchill and Stalin all wanted Hitler defeated, they just didn’t see that as leading to the same place.

Charles was apparently against the Islamic Terrorists because, they were opposed to evolution and science in general, and because they were selling all that oil for the world to use to destroy the planet through Global Warming. Who’d a thunk it?
