Impeached Gov. Blagojevich, on the first leg of his media blitz timed to the start of his impeachment trial, in an NBC interview broadcast on The Today Show Sunday compared himself to human rights heros Nelson Mandela, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Mahatma Gandhi.
That’s some pretty crappy writing, but the story’s wonderful, especially because he seems to confuse himself with the Obamessiah.
The art of analogy has fallen on hard times, lately. One of the reasons that I linked the story about subway riders breaking out in “Amazing Grace” was because it struck me as peculiarly ironic. You have to consider that black Americans since the time of slavery have, for legitimate reasons, compared themselves with the Israelites. Christ famously stated to Pontius Pilate that his kingdom was not of this world, and the fact that He didn’t turn out a secular leader who would free the Israelites from Roman hegemony led many to reject Him.
Now comes Obama, and people who ought to know better sing a song that evokes the scales falling off of Saul/Paul’s eyes on his journey to Damascus. Only this is their secular Jesus.
Funny how the left don’t seem to have a deep concern about the apocalyptic overtones.
*******
The governor told NBC that the state Senate trial will be so unfair, he could bring in “15 angels and 20 saints led by Mother Theresa” to testify on his behalf and “it wouldn’t matter.”
Subpoena them.
The ever-perspicacious Fausta reiterates her belief that he’s setting himself up for an insanity defense.  That simply can’t be, as Roland Burris once sought the death penalty for an innocent man, and he was appointed to the Senate by this brave, law-and-order, tax-fighting governor.
The WaPo, in lamenting the four Democrats appointed by governors, states that there ought to be special elections, now that all the appointments have been made.
You must be mistaken, Dan. Nipply assured us that this story was “falling out of the news”, remember?
Wait, I thought this was something that only Chicago Tribune readers read or cared about.
Also, isn’t it blasphemy to compare a mere mortal such as Gov. Blago to The One Lightworker?
He didn’t confuse himself with the one! Dan,
Obama is also Kennedy, Lincoln, FDR, Washington, Jefferson and Jesus, with a dash of Mao thrown in…
Blago is merely Nelson Mandels, MLK, and Ghandi, with a dash of Richard J Daley thrown in
Big difference there, O! walks on water, can do no wrong, and is a supreme patriot; regardless of his disdain for the Constitution…
Blago is merely the head extortionist in Illinois, and a source of absolute secular, and tribal, moral authority…
They are related in other important ways though…
They are both hypocritical, opportunistic, putzes!
Brothers! by different Muthaz…
Also, didn’t Obama endorse this guy twice (in 2002 and 2006)? And I thought that the One could look into people’s souls and heal them or something.
Funny how Obama has done nothing to silence the rhetoric either.
Given my own Christianity I’d be rather troubled any time anyone described me as washing away any sin, much less the ‘original sin’ of slavery.
Parallelisms must not be his strong suit.
The Today Show I don’t ever see. That’s the one with the recipes, no? I don’t really cook a lot.
He may have been absent that day in Rev. Wright’s church when they went over the First Commandment.
The governor told NBC that the state Senate trial will be so unfair, he could bring in “15 angels and 20 saints led by Mother Theresa†to testify on his behalf and “it wouldn’t matter.â€Â
He should petition for a change of venue.
Is it worth remining Barack’s followers that he endorsed this guy? Twice?
Because they keep telling me he has such great judgement and I’m all like ” ‘kay”.
I’m really beginning to take a shine to Blago. Every time he speaks it brings a smile to my face.
Yes, Blago is the gift that keeps on giving, except for the people of Illinois.
This is a local story for the Sun-Times, SBP.
Blago is a funny guy, Pablo.
Blago, going on The View? Turning the victim trick, no doubt.
He’ll have the best hair on the set.
Sorry, Univex, but we’ve been told that the religious mentality in its revelatory capacity is a danger to humankind.
And you can make all the comparisons to Reagan cultists you like. Feel free.
A lot of people really did care for Reagan. Of course, he had actually served in office for more than a week for most of us.
Yeah Univex,
Reagan actually turned the country around and headed us in the right direction after the last Democratic lightworker…
Oh, and he effectively ended the cold war too…
Reasons why he was so beloved and revered by most…
Hated by the left though, for many of the same reasons as Boooooosh! You see, he was elected, even though they felt entitled…
I appreciated Reagan because he held the correct policy views on the vast majority of issues. It never occurred to me to present him as some glowing, omniscient being who would usher in a new utopia, imminetize the eschaton as one might put it. He was still the hired help.
Anyone else notice the striking similarity between Blago’s press conference and the defense employed by The Otter in Animal House.
mw, me too. Of course, is Fitz acting in the Neidermeyer capacity or the Dean Wormer one?
invites comparisons to Reagan cultists
Link?
No, but that’s pretty great, mw.
I never knew “The Today Show” was a Chicago-market run…….
The things one gathers from the trolls. How selflessly they give.
BTW, making fun of Obama cultists only invites comparisons to Reagan cultists
YOu know any? I know Reagan admirers. I don’t know anyone who drew nekkid pictures of Ronny riding a unicorn. I also don’t remember Prava-inspired posters being used in his campaign.
You could run a drive-in chain with the amount of projection going on.
@techie
Gotta be Wormer. Although… Fitz kinda looks like Neidermeyer. Nah. Definitely Wormer.
Univex: (blathers, spins, tries to change the subject, fails).
Buh-bye, assclown.
BTW, Univex, the only person I see (well, saw…chuckle) obsessing on Reagan around here would be…well… you.
Univex does have a point about the Reagan term: He talked a good game about reducing the size and scope of the federal government, but all he really managed to do was reduce the rate of its expansion. Spending was also out of control during his administration, too. I wish it wasn’t so, but it is.
I never knew “The Today Show†was a Chicago-market run……
Sure, no one outside of Chicago ever watches that. Just like the New York Times, the AP and Washington Post.
Oh, and the Straits Times in freakin’ Singapore. Clearly a Chicago local market there.
Results 1 – 10 of about 46,850 for blagojevich.
Nipply really beclowned himself on that one, didn’t he?
Wait until the investigation gets closer to Barry O’s doorstep, and he learns that press and popular adulation can turn on you in an instant.
Obviously you haven’t been paying attention to the RNC leadership battle, Grover’s Club For Growth, AM radio entertainers, top conservative bloggers – etc.
Surely you have heard the recent comparisons of Sarah Palin to…Ronald Reagan?
Univex, if you’re responding to me you can save your breath. I TrollHammered your ass, so I won’t see it.
Your argument is an ad hominem fallacy of the tu quoque type and thus, you are not worth my time to read.
I was talking to my dad today, who is a diehard Goldwater deadender, and even he expressed reluctant support for Obama. “He’s as bad as they come. But he’s a smart SOB, so who knows?”
Smart. Like Bob McNamara?
Smart, like Saul Alinski.
I’m liking this univex.
Cynn, you need a date. Be my guest. Don’t forget teh boxed wine.
Your treat! Sweet!
No. But I did hear someone comparing Obama to Reagan. What an idiot, huh?
an unbecoming whispering campaign against one candidate: Caroline Kennedy.
I said right out loud she was a joke what was not a smart person. Not a smart person on account of her being so stupid. Also, she ugly. Right out loud I said it. The entire Kennedy family embarrassed themselves. Not one of them sent up a red flag. Um. Hold up there. She’s retarded. This is not a good idea.
Maybe they hate her and wanted to see her fall on her ass. That’s not a bad theory really. That was really cruel to shine a spotlight on her drooling all over herself. Had to be on purpose. Pure meanness.
Another theory, feets, is that with Teddy Kennedy at the head of the Kennedy clan, they think his level of drooling idiocy is either normal or above-average.
Me, and my NRA, like Kirsten Gillibrand. Chuckie Schumer, not so much.
I had a sort of hot, screaming outrage campaign going….and it worked.
Me, and my NRA, like Kirsten Gillibrand.
Yeah, from what I’ve been reading Gillibrand is about the best that can be expected from a state as blue as New York.
First setback for the lefties. May there be many more to come.
Here ya go, Cynn, Uni, it’s on the house.
Or is this more your style?
“Yeah, from what I’ve been reading Gillibrand is about the best that can be expected from a state as blue as New York.
First setback for the lefties. May there be many more to come.”
On that note, I’ve always had a good amount of respect for David Patterson (prostitution scandal notwithstanding). He always struck me as a very reasonably lefty and I was impressed he had come so far despite his blindness. The Republicans in the New York House and Senate always expressed great respect for him.
Which is why I was surprised to see Saturday Night Live do such a hit job on one of their own in their skit mocking Patterson’s blindness. I guess it’s cool to make fun of people for being blind on the Left. I never understood that. Then again, I don’t really get how people could support aborting babies simply because they had a cleft palette.
Why did you copy my comment? This is how whispering campaigns get started I think. Play nice. We don’t do that sort of thing around here.
Uh, “sour grapes” applies when you didn’t get something you wanted. F’rinstance, if you were to steal Patrick Kennedy from me, and I bid him good riddance, it wouldn’t be sour grapes as he stuk the landing in my DO NOT WANT category. Because he’s retarded too.
except that the Republican party rarely does what Rush Limbaugh suggests lately… but whatevs, Obama said it, so it must be TRVTH!
Oh, look, “Univex” is playing the name game!
What makes these people so arrogant they think their words are worth being forced on people?
“BTW, making fun of Obama cultists only invites comparisons to Reagan cultists.”
WTF is a “Reagan cultist”?
Reagan cultist: People who look back on, and truly appreciate, the marvelous service that Roanld Reagan provided our nation. His vision, and steadfast determination changed the course of history for the better. Check with the Poles, or other eastern block nations. They are part of the cultists.
There are Lincoln cultists, Washington cultists, Jefferson cultists–as there should be. This Obama cult thingy has gotten a little ahead of itself.
Again, I’ve never heard anyone assign supernatural powers to Reagan. Appreciating his accomplishments, wishing he, or someone of his mettle, were around today is a vastly different thing than declaring that he’ll heal the world, stop the oceans from rising, and bring about paradise on Earth.
