The Mystery of Palin’s Wardrobe [Dan Collins]

After Obama’s 160 million dollar inauguration, lefties are still yammering on about the sinister secrets of Sarah Palin’s campaign wardrobe:

Despite the Republican National Committee’s promise to donate Sarah Palin’s $180,000 campaign wardrobe to charity, word has it the Alaska governor’s clothes remain stuffed in trash bags at RNC headquarters, NewMajority has learned.

While Palin followed through on her promise to return her controversial wardrobe after the election, it seems the RNC has not followed through on its promise to give most of the clothes away.

During the 2008 campaign, GOP vice presidential candidate Palin was pummeled with accusations that she had overspent on clothes for herself, and even for her family — down to baby Trig. Palin asserted at the time that the clothes belonged to the RNC. They were not her property and would be returned at the end of the campaign. A campaign spokeswoman backed up those claims, saying, “It was always the intent that the clothing go to a charitable purpose after the campaign.” It was also understood that those that had not been worn would be returned to the appropriate retailer; those that had been worn would be used for some other purpose, perhaps auctioned off for charity or to retire campaign debt.

Mr. RNC, auction off that wardrobe! On eBay!

Jim Geraghty: John McCain Does the Impossible

This seems like a reasonably oxymoronic proposition, but that’s not what makes it absurd. What makes it absurd is that if McCain were capable of performing the impossible, then he would be The One, would have won the election, and would be adored by everybody everywhere. So, you see, Mr. Geraghty, you have to get up pretty early in the morning to pull that stuff on us.

Virginia Tax Puppet Mouse Promotes Online Filing, Murder of Jews

Okay, I made that last part up.

She’s super-hot? I think San Francisco might be the safest place to send her.

Just an attention whore. I agree with Ace on this, except for the part about people not paying whores to run think tanks.

Since Teh Stupidest Man On Teh Intartubes has deigned to link here, I’ll just repeat what Say Anything says:

Despite plenty of evidence of illegal and fraudulent fund raising activities by the Obama campaign – much of which implicates Obama campaign officials with being complicit with it – the Federal Election Committee apparently isn’t going to do an audit.

Like one of Obama’s friends once said: “Guilty as sin, free as a bird, it’s a great country.”

But don’t worry folks.  The McCain campaign will be undergoing a full audit that will, potentially, take years and cost millions.
I’m sure that the most transparent administration EVAH won’t mind sharing that information–and specifically that regarding who turned off the verification system and why–ASAP.  Also, I’m a centrist.  How?  By self-acclamation, of course.

How about The One! and our Congressional Betters about to authorize the spending of One Trillion Dollars = (10^12) = (1,000,000,000,000)?

Glad to see our ever-vigilant watchdogs focusing on the important matters.

  2. Republican on Acid says:

Why must conservatives always be on the defensive with these people. Why can’t Palin and all the rest of them say, “yeah, we did it – we spent 180,000 on clothes. How much did it cost to clothe the Obama family? In other words, fuck off.”

  3. Topsecretk9 says:

Michelle Obama should have bought one of Palin’s suit for inauguration day instead of that hideous mustard couch she wore.

  4. David says:

How ’bout Bush engaging America in the largest, most expensive Social Experiment in American history with our Republican adventures in Iraq?

Iraq is going to cost America one to three TRILLION DOLLARS.

But heathcare for Americans, oh that’s socialism.

  5. Techie says:

Because the RNC and Co. are a bunch of limp-wrist pansies. When was the last time the party leadership fought back hard against anything the Democrats did? Judicial confirmations? Hah, what’d we get out of that, other than that crappy Gang of 14 deal? Defending the WoT? Pathetic.

Do I care how much the campaign spent on clothes? Not in the slightest. Heck, what did Barack drop that $600 Million on?

We’re going to have to wait for a new generation of party leadership before they decide to “fight back” on anything. They’ve totally signed onto the definition of “bipartisanship” as “giving the Democrats what they want”.

  6. alppuccino says:

But heathcare for Americans, oh that’s socialism.

Heathcare? I think I read about that in The Candy Bar Journal of Medicine. Cutting edge stuff.

  7. Bob Reed says:

The left needs to fuhgeddabowdit when it comes to Palin. But it just goes to show that collectively they are a bunch of sore winners…

Or, maybe they’re so afraid of her that they need to ensure that they can continue to talk bad about her on a regular basis. Remember, the bigger the lie, and the more often it’s repeated, mean the faster it becomes da trooooooooooof!

This is an RNC problem, not a Palin problem. And the left needs to STFU about it and start owning their President’s, and his administration’s, actions and statements-as well as the sure to follow unintended consequences…

Oh, and Mav needs to STFU too! He’s lucky he doesn’t have to own all this “funky sh*t goin’ down in the city” (H/t Steve Miller Band), but he doesn’t need to be dragging all of us into owning it either, at least in the eyes and voices of the press, by shooting his mouth off about the lefts new favorite words; unity and bi-partisanship…

  8. Deon says:

David – first off, I have always been against nation-building, so I’m not wild about a lot of the spending on Iraq.

That said, you just argued that the ENTIRE IRAQ WAR is comparably the “stimulus” spending the Democrats are proposing for just this spring. And it doesn’t even touch the amounts of money spent or swindled over TARP and Paulson (a Democrat, though a Bush appointee) giveaways, which are, from bailouts and all last year, something around $14 trillion.

And there is a darn sight difference between conducting a war and seizing an industry and running it by the government. “Socialism” doesn’t have anything to do with the amount of money spent. “Socialism” and “nationalizing” have to do with domestic government policy and action. So even crappy nation-building isn’t, ipso facto, socialism. Putting control of any (formerly) private industry into the hands of government is.

    So:
    fighting a war != socialism
    nationalizing industry = socialism

  9. Deon says:

    “comparably” => comparable to.

Does anyone else feel like they woke up in Monday?

  10. Sdferr says:

How about this Congressional Authorization H.J.Res. 114, David?

  11. Bob Reed says:

Closer to one trillion, David; Steven Sachs is wrong…

Thanks for your concern, but the one’s bailouts will cost more than that next year…

Funny though isn’t it, but the bulk of the proposed several trillion won’t really start to come on until 2011…

Funny how that coincides with the beginning of the next presidential election cycle, isn’t it?

    Coincidence, I’m sure…

  12. Squid says:

If David’s heathcare plan can improve our lives as quickly and remarkably as the surge did, then fine, let’s pony up the dough. My one condition is that the funding for heathcare be limited to a similar timeframe as that afforded to our military in Iraq. If, six to eight years from now, our candy bars require ever-increasing money for their care — tough darts. David and his candy-huggers will just have to MoveOn.

  13. ginsocal says:

David: STFU. You are clearly too ignorant about…well, everything, to comment. At the very least, there is a tangible, beneficial result of the war. There will be no such thing as a result of the “bailout.” Unless you’re a well connected democrat/Obama supporter/contributor. Those douchebags will make out like bandits.

  14. N. O'Brain says:

  17. SteveG says:

    OK
So someone employed at the RNC should be delegated to take care of the clothes properly and coordinate the auction.
Or they feel like the clothes auction wouldn’t be worth the time.

    So what?
Maybe after getting their asses kicked in the last two elections they feel like they need to find a real leader and get on to winning some seats back in 2010 instead of running an auction.

  18. alppuccino says:

You know, if they can’t get heathcare for all Americans, maybe an economic Snickulus would be a decent compromise. After all, aren’t we all just peanuts and caramel, waiting to be covered in chocolate?

  19. daleyrocks says:

What’s David’s complaint? I thought we were getting paid back for the war in Iraq with oil. Isn’t that what the left kept shouting? Don’t tell me they were wrong all this time.

If so, at least we got to kill some bad guys, bring gemocracy to an oppressed people, and help keep America safe through an aggressive war on terrorism. What did the left do apart from bitch about everything?

She has the guts
the determination, to fight against impossible odds, and that’s why she’ll win

The good guys, as he calls em, took money from every crooked institution on the face of the earth; who were then paid back with

    Nope

Gov. Sarah Palin has instituted a hiring freeze and pledged to work with state lawmakers to rein in spending as Alaska faces the possibility of a more than billion dollar deficit this year.

She told lawmakers Thursday night in her annual State of the State address that she also has restricted nonessential spending as oil prices remain low.

Mccain damn near snapped his own neck with that sudden veer to the right he made during the campaign and almost did it again with his veer back to the left.

The man clearly does not know who he is or, and more likely in my opinion, he loves the positive attention from the media and is motivated to win back the hearts of those who shit all over him for the last 8 months.

I find it shocking when neo-cons wonder what went wrong and “how do we right the ship”. Simple. Don’t nominate the GOP version of John Kerry.

  41. PCachu says:

Personally, I’m not holding my breath for Sarah to show any willingness to return to the national stage.

Her negative railroading, from foe and “friend” alike, was no fluke. The GOP establishment took a good long look at what she’d done to the corrupted party in her own State, declared “DO NOT WANT” (the Purges are no fun when you’re one of the Purged), and proceeded to crap all over her every time they got a microphone and an excuse.

The misogyny from the Chosen One’s camp is to be expected — remember, in order to violate your principles you first need to have some. The bitching from her supposed allies, on the other hand, was inexcusable and apocalyptic ass-covering upon realizing that they were going to be the ones up against the wall when the Revolution came.

  42. Mikey NTH says:

The wardrobe thing is only a blind, Bob. If it wasn’t that it would be something else. Those who were politcally opposed to Gov. Palin used this as a politcal club. It is reasonable for a major political candidate to be properly costumed for the political stage. I don’t oppose that for major candidates and their family members. (Men are more fortunate than women because men can have just a few suits (navy blue, black, and banker gray) some white shirts, a selection of ties, and black wingtips and they are set. Women need more clothing – sad but true.)

Those who are still harping on this are going beyond politics, and using politcal opposition as another piece of cover. Holding grudges and hating isn’t really acceptable, but politcal opponents allow the hater to indulge fully in his or her hate and keep a modicum of respectability. They out themselves by going beyond reason – even politcal reason – and continuing to focus on something as ultimately trivial as this. Here, a question of being disproportionate in response to the triviality of the alleged sin is an appropriate question to ask. The pretextual nature becomes very apparent.

I am not a psychologist, but that is my take on it.

Barky and his minions use Crackberries and Gmail -> brilliant tech experts.

Palin wears expensive, elegant clothes -> stupid hick.
Barky’s wife wears expensive, hideous clothes -> “fashion icon”.

Palin works her way through college, taking several extra years as a result -> stupid hick
Barky gets scholarships, fellowships, and book deals handed to him despite his (apparently) poor grades, simply because he is Teh Black and spouts the appropriate Marxist drivel -> brilliant scholar.

Palin tries to get a State Trooper who tased an 11 year old kid fired -> corrupt.

Barky hangs out with terrorists, gangsters, and crooked politicians in the most famously corrupt political system on the continent -> pure as the driven snow.

Do I have The Narrative correct here?

BTW, I see that Barky has followed through on one (and only one) campaign promise. We’re now missiling the piss out of Pockeestawn.

That makes…well…let’s see…one campaign promise that he’s carried out.

    #43 Carin, Why?

  48. Mikey NTH says:

while I am thinking along this line, let me just point out that many questions and responses are framed in legal terms, when in actuality the question and answer is political. For example, the entire torture issue. Things that are obviously torture – such as the rack or red-hot pokers – are not in the discussion What has been the subject of discussion has been waterboarding, which has been in a gray area. Legal arguments can (and have) been made that it isn’t torture and that it is torture. What was done, was this submitted as a legal question and then a definitive answer given?

No, it was used as a political club and was used to justify investigations, speeches, editorials, etc. And the investigations aren’t what would be thought of as legal investigations and determination, they were congressional hearings. Congressional hearings have very little to do with law enforcement and more to do with political positioning and posturing. A political body doing an investigation on another political body, no matter the veneer of legalism applied, is always politcally motivated in one way or another. The Clinton impeachment was political. The fact there was a legal issue involved (the district court did find perjury in the testimony) does not remove the political factor, the large political factor, from an impeachment proceeding. See Andrew Johnson’s impeachment and trial for a good example of this.

When a political body and political foes are decrying an action and investigation, no matter how questionable or how blatantly illegal the action in question, political motivations are the driving force.

Of course, elections will be outlawed by 2012 so it won’t make a difference. The public won’t mind though because Obama will smile as he signs the order and the Ministry of Propaganda mainstream media will insist the public likes it since “it’s change”.

  83. Rob Crawford says:

It’s an honest mistake, “zadig”. History tells us that the odds are Willis is an asshole — it’s a near certainty, in fact — and the bizarre attacks on Palin have, around here at least, come from the lefties.

  84. thor says:

Unless she starts dating Rachel Maddow, or if she’s arrested for lewd and lascivious behavior for running around in the snow naked pretending to build her imaginary pipeline, I don’t won’t to hear about the winky-winky white trash airhead.

  85. soroslapdog says:

“I noticed you all were quick to mock Oliver Willis’s link, but did anyone read it? He has a good point: the link up top says “lefties are still yammering” about Palin’s wardrobe, but it links to a righty Web site. ”

Don’t confuse David “vomit” Frum with the conservative philosophy.

  86. soroslapdog says:

    For the racists folks:

“I don’t won’t to hear about the 1/2 black winky-winky white trash airhead.”

  87. Spies, Brigands, and Pirates says:

In fact, lefties don’t really mention Palin at all

    Liar.

    Liar.

    Liar.

    Liar.

I trust that settles that, “zadig”.

STFU until you learn to tell better lies, m’kay?

  88. Spies, Brigands, and Pirates says:

For those who don’t feel like clicking all of the links:

Results 1 – 10 of about 37 from feministing.com over the past month for palin.

Results 1 – 10 of about 999 from democraticunderground.com over the past month for palin.

Results 1 – 10 of about 1,700 from dailykos.com over the past month for palin.

Results 1 – 10 of about 97,200 from huffingtonpost.com over the past month for palin.

  89. cynn says:

Thanks for driving that point good and hard, Spies.

  90. parsnip says:

Don’t confuse David “vomit” Frum with the conservative philosophy.

You take over the job of administering loyalty oaths to your dwindling band of pariahs from Darleen, lappie?

That’s a smart way to grow the party.

  91. cynn says:

You will do pretty much anything to nip at the heels of this administration. Kind of like we did, but with less arrogance and more drastic revisionism.

  92. soroslapdog says:

“You take over the job of administering loyalty oaths to your dwindling band of pariahs from Darleen, lappie?”

No you idiot veggie. I say if you want to be a Demorat be a Fucking Demorat. R’s say “Fuck The State”

  93. zadig says:

OK, we’re talking at cross-purposes here. This blog entry was about lefties obsessing about Palin’s wardrobe. Only righties are obsessing over the wardrobe. So Oliver was right anyway.

In my original reply, I overgeneralized and assumed that because I and the people I hang with don’t give a shit about Palin, lefties in general were ignoring her. Thanks for the links setting me straight, Spies. Of course, your links don’t tell the whole story the way you implied.

The first huffpo link you point to is a reference to the same Righty link you use at the top of this article. The rest of the links on huffington are automatic links to news coverage (CNN, NBC, etc.) where Palin, her daughter, etc. won’t shut up and go away. None of those are lefties obsessing over Palin.

I’ll grant you the Kos links. Many of those are about the news coverage rather than about Palin herself, but some of the people over there don’t know when to let the subject go either.

Personally, I thought Palin got too much coverage during the election, much less now that she’s a proven loser. But maybe that’s just me. Either way, try to be more accurate in your accusations, and I’ll do the same.

  94. Rob Crawford says:

Anyone else find “try to be more accurate in your accusations, and I’ll do the same” particularly ironic coming after a declaration that Palin’s a “loser”?

She’s more accomplished than you are. She’s more accomplished than Caroline Kennedy. She’s more accomplished than 90% of the population.

  95. soroslapdog says:

“Personally, I thought Palin got too much coverage during the election,”

I thought the same about Joey Hairplugs.

  96. cynn says:

I agree; I thought the Palin uproar was stupid. Who wants her used clothes, and why bother with the new ones? If they fit her, let her keep them. It was an investment; I get it.

  97. Rob Crawford says:

Has anyone seen Rahm Emmanuel lately?

Isn’t it odd for a White House Chief of Staff to disappear like this?

  98. soroslapdog says:

    Oh, really, lappie?

Is that why the Republicans increased the size of government 50% when the briefly held power?

  100. takeshi kovacs says:

Well let’s take it one a time, there’s CNN where even there one good reporter, Griffin, blind sided her with the Byron York quote, or Jack Cafferty’s daily idiocies,
NBC do I even have to say what their coverage was like during the campaign, CBS, the House that Katie’s doing the best to burn down. Yes she’s answered a few questions to make up for all the (what’s the Russian word for excrement) that has been thrown at her. Kos and the Huffington Post, the trash compactor, at the end of theinternet, floating every lie about her.

We were content to focus on her efforts on the pipeline, her budget cutting measures, her health care proposals, but the New Majority, directed by the Frummette Moira Bagley:

“The Kentucky native with porcelain skin came to Washington as a journalist but joined the Republican National Committee (RNC) after realizing “I couldn’t hide my light under a bushel anymore,” she said. Before becoming an RNC press secretary, Bagley was a copy editor at Roll Call, where she once had a run-in with the IT department for using 80 percent of the office’s Internet bandwidth to watch the National Zoo’s Web cam of its newborn pandas.”

There’s a person of remarkable judgement right there, it’s a wonder we won any state, with her skills.

  101. soroslapdog says:

    To the Europeon vegitable.

Fuck you Fuck the Demorat party Fuck the Repuborat party JUST FUCK YOU AND YOUR SOCIALISM!!

  102. takeshi kovacs says:

This is just a small part of her State of the State speech given yesterday:

“I used to wonder if the occasionally rough edges of politics were unique here under the Great North Star. But I ventured out a bit this past year, and I tell you that, as partisan quarrels go, ours really aren’t so bad. At our best, we are forthright in our opinions, charitable in our judgments and fair just like the people who hired us to work for them.

Today, when challenges may seem as high as Mt. McKinley, and change as constant as the mighty Yukon flows, and political events send shockwaves through our foundation like the ’64 quake – what do Alaskans do? We climb Denali, we forge the river, we rebuild a stronger foundation on higher ground. When it matters most, lesser differences fall away. Just like family, Alaskans unite.

It was this kind of determined action that turned the northland wilds into a territory, a territory into a state, and that state, across 50 years, into a land of industry, opportunity, and enduring beauty. And now that perseverance is needed again, as we go through a time of testing for our country – a time of economic worry for many Alaskans – a time of challenge to the wisdom and resolve of state government.”

Governor Wally Hickel said he feared more than any economic depression – a depression of the spirit. Alaska, it’s time we revive the optimistic, pioneering spirit that our founding mothers and fathers birthed in our State Constitution! As we celebrate statehood – let that spirit rise now, and our actions correspond as our founders intended.”

Beats the dirge on Tuesday, by several miles.

I suggest that anyone who’s skeptical of my statement in 104 click through to some of those “automatic links” on HuffPo and read the comments.

For example, this one (1974 comments).

    Or this one (1085 comments).

Were those comments “automatic links” too, liebot?

I don’t recognize your name, zadig — you may be new, haven’t been here for a while, or (like so many of the other trolls) are too ashamed to stick to one name. I made a New Year’s Resolution to not debate dishonest trolls. So, I’m done with you. You can save your next half-assed spin attempt, because I won’t even see it.

  105. phil says:

Folks, your back and forth partisan bickering is just a “distraction” from the real issues.

I’m sorry sir, I’m new to this and I never got my Leftist memo about what I’m supposed to do as the loyal opposition. You know, things like:

Constantly and continuously compare the President to Adolf Hitler

Make films depicting the fictional assassination of the President

Contend that the President deliberately allowed a terrorist attack on his own country for political gain

Have my Senate leadership declare a war that is occurring in real time to be “lost” without regard for the troops in the field, their families back at home or the welfare of the nation at large

Put an ad in the New York Times suggesting that the President’s top general is a traitor for accepting the job of top military commander during a war

You’ll have to pardon my sarcastic comments about Baracky. Totally inappropriate and uncalled for, especially during this amazing era of Change I Can Believe In. Rest assured that it won’t happen again sir.

  122. the Alaska governor’s clothes remain stuffed in trash bags at RNC headquarters

Sure it is. Why not say it, nobody will question it on the left and the press will pick it up as if it’s gospel. It doesn’t matter if its true or not. All that matters is how you can manipulate the ideas of voters.

  123. Mikey NTH says:

    Christopher Taylor:

It doesn’t really matter, as you know. The clothes are in trash bags; like Sarah Palin is trash. Even though no one ships in trash bags.

Got to get the idea across – clothes worn by Gov. Palin = trash. Extrapolate, Gov. Palin = trash. No matter that the original complaint was that the clothes were too expensive.

Like the complaint that Sec. of State Rice was clothes shopping in NYC during Katrina. It is just a political club to wield on a foe. Like complaints about the expense of the Bush innaugurations, and the gushing over the Obama innauguration. Just a political club.
